Fig. 6 eine Teilansicht zu Fig. 5.
Method and device for filling plastic granulate by means of compressed air into the molds of a plastic molding machine
In a known plastic molding machine, the plastic granulate is blown directly into the mold cavities of the molding machine from a storage container by means of an injector operated with compressed air or a plurality of such injectors. Since the pressure of the air is converted into speed by means of the injector, the mold cavities are filled under reduced pressure. The filling time is therefore relatively long and, in the case of complex moldings, the mold cavity is not completely filled with granules in some cases. The density of the molding is also insufficient in some cases.
The invention aims to avoid these disadvantages in that the full pressure of the air is available during the filling.
The present invention relates to a method and a device for filling a plastic granulate, e.g. B. Styrofoam, using compressed air in the molds of a plastic molding machine.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the granulate is poured into a filling container upstream of the molds and downstream of the storage container, the air located above and inside the granulate column is compressed and suddenly expanded by opening the feed lines leading to the molds.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that an airtight, closable filling container is arranged between the storage container for the granulate and the molds, which is connected on the one hand to the storage container by means of filling lines and on the other hand to a compressed air source that can be switched off and the filling container also has a vent valve and its lower opening is connected to the molds by closable lines.
The invention achieves that granules filled into the filling container are suddenly filled into the molds in a fraction of a second with the full, available pressure. During the time it takes to sinter the granules introduced into the molds using heat and then to cool them, the filling container can be filled again so that the next filling process can then be started immediately after the molding has been ejected and the two-part mold is closed .
The method according to the invention and exemplary embodiments of the device according to the invention are described below with reference to the drawing.

Fig. 4 shows a section in the direction of the line IV-IV in Fig. 3,
5 shows a further example of a filling container in a vertical longitudinal section,
FIG. 6 is a partial view of FIG. 5.
The molding machine shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 consists essentially of the machine frame G with the molded part F1 attached, the other molded part F2 attached to the horizontally displaceable carrier T, the fittings W, D for the supply of cooling water and steam to the molded parts F1 and F2 and the control cabinet Sch. The molded parts F1 and F2 are usually provided with cooling channels in order to be able to apply cooling water to the molded article by means of nozzles provided in the wall of the cooling channels. The cooling channels are connected to the atmosphere by means of pipes.
A filling container 1 to which compressed air is applied is arranged on the machine frame G. The filling container 1 is closed at the top by a cover 2 which carries an injector 3 and a vent valve 4 (FIGS. 3 and 4). The injector 3 is connected by means of the line 5 to the storage container 6 and connected to the compressed air line 7 for introducing the granules into the filling container 1. Furthermore, a compressed air line 8 with a built-in check valve 9 leads into the upper part of the container 1. The compressed air line 8 is acted upon with compressed air either directly by the compressed air generator (not shown) or via a compressed air reservoir 10. The lower part of the filling container 1 is narrowed in the manner of a funnel and carries a closing plate 12 provided with holes 11.
Lines 13 are connected to the holes 11 and can be opened or closed by piston valves 14 acted upon by compressed air. The lines 13 lead to the mold lock slides 15 which are arranged on the molds F and which can be opened or closed by means of compressed air supplied via the lines 16 and 17.
When the filling container is being filled, the vent valve 4 is open, the compressed air lines 8, the lines 13 and the form closure slide 15 are closed. By supplying compressed air via the line 7, the injector 3 conveys the granules from the storage container 6 via the line 5 into the interior of the cylinder 1, which is filled approximately half or three quarters with granules. The filling can be observed through the sight glass 19. After completion of the filling process, the injector 3 and the vent valve 4 are closed. Via the compressed air line 8, the space of the filling cylinder 1 located above the granulate is acted upon with compressed air of approximately 8 atmospheres. The filling container 1 is thus ready for filling the molds.
As soon as the molds F are ready to receive, the piston valves 14 and the mold closure slide 15 are opened. The compressed air in the filling container 1 expands suddenly and drives the granules into the molds F.
Compressed air flows continuously from the pressure accumulator or from the compressor into the filling cylinder 1 via the line 8.
After completion of the filling of the mold, the compressed air supply to the line 8 is blocked, the mold closure slide 15 is closed and the vent valve 4 is opened. Via the compressed air line 18, compressed air is pressed into the lines 13, which return the granules contained therein to the filling container 1.
Then the valves 14 are closed. In order to prevent granules from getting stuck in the funnel-like part of the filling container 1, compressed air can be fed into this part through the nozzle 20 while the molds F are being filled. The injector 3, the vent valve 4 and the piston valve 14 are expediently actuated by compressed air.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 5 and 6, the filling container 1 is designed as a cylinder in which a sealed piston 21 with a piston rod 22 is guided.
The injector 3 and the vent valve 4 are connected to the wall of the cylinder 1 below the piston 21, which is in its highest position. The piston rod 22 carries a piston 23 which is guided in a cylinder 24. To move the piston 21, a compressed air line 25 with a shut-off valve 26 and a pressure reducing valve 27 is connected to the end plate 2. The cylinder 24 can be charged with compressed air via the line 28. Instead of the piston valve 14, a compressed air-operated slide 14 ′ is provided for the lower end of the cylinder 1.
The cylinder 1 is filled in the same way
Way as described in FIGS. 3 and 4. To fill the molds F, the compressed air supply via the line 8 is closed and, after the slide 14 ′ and the mold closure slide 15 have been opened, compressed air is introduced into the cylinder 1 via the line 25 above the piston 21. The piston 21 moves downwards as soon as the air trapped above the granulate has expanded sufficiently. The air pressure above the granulate is therefore maintained.
As soon as the molds F are filled and the mold lock slider 15 closed, compressed air is introduced into the cylinder 24 via the line 28 so that the piston 21 is brought back to its highest position and in this way generates a negative pressure in the cylinder 1, whereby the Granules still present in the lines 13 are sucked back into the cylinder 1.
FIG. 5 also shows that compressed air can still be introduced into the lines 13 via the line 29 during the filling process of the molds F.
