Method for explosion plating two metal sheets It is known to produce plated metal sheets by means of explosives, that is to say by means of what is known as explosion plating.
The known methods have in common that flat sheets under one. certain angles of attack are shot at each other with the help of explosives and thus connected to each other. At the. A sudden collision of the metal sheets causes the plastic surface deformation to mechanically interlock the two different materials. In order to achieve a uniform cladding over the entire width of the sheets, a straight detonation front is required.
This is generated by what is known as a line wave generator or wave generator which, when the explosive is ignited at an initial point, over different travel lengths and thus travel times enables the formation of a straight detonation front. The different path lengths of the explosive paths on the wave generator are achieved through more or less complicated recesses in the explosives trap. This is arranged on the side facing away from the base plate of the plate to be plated and is ignited at the end near the base plate.
This makes it more difficult to carry out the process, and as a result they are also burdened with increased costs. Furthermore, in the known methods of explosion cladding, the dimensions of the sheets to be connected are limited. Above a certain critical length of the metal sheets, there are isolated loose spots and, at a further distance from the point-like explosive detonator, large-area, no longer interconnected spots occur.
If these unplated areas are in contact with the outside atmosphere, oxidation of the metal surfaces occurs at these areas during the subsequent rolling and annealing treatments of the sheets. The sheets are then not connected to one another at these points and result in rejects.
With the invention, the listed after parts are largely avoided, in particular the implementation of the explosion plating is made much easier and simplified. and the. Pressings of the sheets to be joined can be increased considerably.
According to the method according to the invention, the cross section of the sheet to be clad has the shape of an angle; whose legs have at least approximately the same inclination towards the base plate. The sheet to be plated; can be determined in the desired position to the base plate, and it can be produced, for example, by welding.
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the process is that the sheet to be platted is designed as the jacket of a cone, which is placed with its tip on the base plate, with this has an approximately equal inclination in all directions and the explosive foil is centrally located in the cone tip will be.
According to the embodiment of the method with angled sheet metal, compared to the previously known method with the same width of the sheets, a double plating surface is obtained, while according to the embodiment in which the sheet metal to be plated is formed as a cone shell, about four times the plating surface is sufficient. Another advantage of the method is that a so-called wave generator is not required, so the explosive film does not need to be provided with any kind of recesses. This significantly reduces the processing costs.
If the sheet metal to be plated on is designed as a conical surface, it can be designed in such a way that plating of any desired shape and dimension is obtained after the plating. Places in which the base plate and the plate to be plated are not connected to one another, but which have no connection to the outside atmosphere, now only occur in the area of the ignition point.
However, a firm connection between the base plate and the plate to be plated can also be achieved in this area; if the sheet to be clad on: the- place, on. which is the central ignition point, one. Distance from the base sheet, which is up to about 20 times the thickness of the sheet to be cladded :: be.
When using the method, as has been shown, the shear strength according to the ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) standards along and across the direction of detonation is significantly above the required value of 14.1 kp / mm2.
In the drawing, the arrangement of the base plate and the plate to be plated is shown on the basis of two exemplary embodiments, the plate to be plated according to FIG. 1 having an angular cross-section and according to - FIG. 2 - the shape of a conical shell.
On a flat base plate 1, for example made of mild steel, stands according to FIG. 1 an angularly designed sheet 2 to be cladded, for example made of a stainless steel sheet 2. The legs 3 and 4 of the sheet 2, which together form the angle ss, close with the base plate 1 in each case, the angle of incidence a, although it is sufficient if the two angles of incidence are at least approximately the same size.
On the top of the sheet 2, an explosive film 5 is applied, which is ignited at points in the apex -6: Between the base plate 1 and the sheet 2 -shifted blocks 7, thrown away during the explosion of the explosive film who, - are used to keep the plate -2 to be plated in its starting position. The ultrasound examination of the sheets clad in this way shows, apart from the area of the ignition point, a perfect plating over the entire surface of the sheets including all edges.
The shear strength in accordance with the ASTM standards along and across the direction of detonation is between 20 and 30 kp / mm2 for this procedure.
According to FIG. 2, the plate 2 to be plated is designed as the jacket of a cone, which stands with its tip 8 on the base plate 1. The cone shell; which forms approximately the same angle of incidence a with the base plate 1 in all directions, is lined with the explosive film 5 on the inside. The explosive film 5 is ignited centrally in the cone tip -8_. With this type of implementation of the method, too, the ultrasound examination shows a complete plating of the entire surface except for the area of the central ignition point.
The shear strength according to the ASTM standards is above half in the radial and tangential directions: the required value of 14.1 kp / mm2.
