Machine for the application of decorative packages on chocolates and other round confectionery products
The present invention relates to a machine for the application of decorative packs to chocolate and other confectionery products of round shape, which the three successive operations of smoothing a tinfoil sheet applied to the raw product, wrapping it with another decorative film and binding the so wrapped Automatically executes the product with a loop.
Various problems arise in the application of decorative packages to confectionery products which have a round shape, and in particular in the package of chocolate eggs. The first is to create a completely smooth tinfoil shell on the chocolate egg. In fact, if you apply tinfoil on a round object, it will not adapt to the curvature of the same, but rather form very pronounced folds that greatly impair the appearance of the casing. Therefore, the further step of smoothing such a tinfoil casing becomes necessary.
Various machines are known for performing this smoothing, in which an elastic band is passed over chocolate eggs rotating on rollers. However, such machines are only suitable for chocolate eggs of smaller dimensions, in which the thickness of their walls is not too small compared to the size of these eggs, i.e. for eggs that have a certain compressive strength. For eggs of larger dimensions and with relatively thin walls, such machines often cause the walls to be dented, so that the percentage of rejects caused by them makes them impossible to use. For this reason, even with mass production, larger eggs have been smoothed by hand until now.
The second wrapping, which has been used for years for eggs, is made of a sheet of transparent material, e.g. B. cellophane, was previously also placed by hand, and this second cover was also tied by hand with a ribbon or a decorative cord. The manual labor required to apply such ornamental packs thus increases the overhead cost of the chocolate egg considerably.
It is an object of the present invention to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks by providing a machine which automatically carries out the three operations described above in three stations.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a machine of the above type in which the three stations are connected to one another by transport and synchronizing means.
The proposed machine is accordingly characterized by a first station for smoothing a tinfoil casing previously applied to the product, by a second station for applying a second casing around the smoothed tinfoil casing and for forming a tuft of this second casing, by a third station for attaching a Mesh around the neck of the tuft formed from this second casing, and by conveyor means for moving the product from one station to the next, and by synchronizing means to coordinate the work of the stations with one another.
Further advantages of the machine according to the invention can be seen from the following description, using the enclosed drawings of an exemplary embodiment.
In the drawings show:

FIG. 22 shows a completely wrapped and bound chocolate egg.
As can be seen from Figures 1 and 2, the machine shown consists of a frame, generally designated 1, which carries the three stations mentioned as well as the conveying and synchronizing devices. The chocolate egg, which was previously wrapped raw in a tinfoil sheet, is first placed on a support device 32 and from there, via a conveyor device described later, to the smoothing station, which is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 on an enlarged scale. A motor, not shown, rotates shafts 3 and 4 in the direction indicated by arrows F1. The rollers 5 and 6 are fastened to these two parallel shafts.
The rollers have a groove, the profile of which follows the outline of the chocolate egg 7 exactly. Therefore, the egg is supported uniformly along its outline and the rotation of the rollers causes the egg to rotate in the opposite direction (arrow F2). The rollers 5 and 6 are covered with a layer 8 of rubber or of their resilient N material. Each roller consists of a central part 9 firmly connected to its shaft, and two outer parts 10 and 11 which are freely rotatable on the shafts on both sides of the central part.
This measure serves to reduce the difference between the circumferential speeds of the middle part 9 and the outer parts 10 and 11, which are in contact with the egg 7, and thereby reduce excessive friction between these outer roller parts and the tinfoil sheet surrounding the egg to prevent.
The actual smoothing device, which is generally designated by the reference number 12, is mounted vertically above the space existing between the rollers 5 and 6. This consists of two curved parallel arms 13 which are firmly connected to one another via plates 14 and 15; the entire smoothing device 12 is vertically displaceable back and forth (arrow F3) via a rod 16, and is raised and lowered after a certain cycle. A curved support 18 is fastened between the two curved arms 13 and has a semicircular cross-section and the curvature of which follows the outline of the egg 7.
The support 18 ends on the one hand in a small block 19 which is guided vertically in a recess 21 and is pressed against the plate 14 by a spring 20. At its other end, the support 18 carries a perforated plate 22 which is guided vertically through a pin 23 which is fastened in the plate 15. Another spring 24, which is supported against the I head 25 of the pin 23, presses this end of the support 18 downwards. Almost over its entire length, the support 18 is surrounded by a spiral spring with touching turns and a diameter which is larger than the outer diameter of the support 18, so that the spring sits on the support with a large amount of play. Therefore, the spring can rotate freely around the support 18.
Another spiral spring 27, of smaller diameter, is inserted inside the support 18 and its two ends are fixed under tension to the corresponding ends of the support 18; therefore, spring 27 presses the outer spring 26 steadily and resiliently downward, as shown in FIG. If the entire smoothing device 12 is now pressed onto the egg, which is already wrapped in a tinfoil shell, while the same is rotating, the lower side of the spring 26 is pressed elastically against the tinfoil shell and thereby the folds of the tinfoil shell itself are smoothly and steadily smoothed without Causing the walls of even thin-walled, larger chocolate eggs to break. The springs 20 and 24 also help to make the smoothing effect of the spring 26 more elastic.
In order to smooth the tinfoil casing on both domes, the inwardly directed end surfaces of the plates 14 and 15 are curved inward, and these end surfaces 28 and 29 are advantageously covered with a layer of flexible material.
Of course, in the case of larger eggs or objects of different shapes, a certain number of such smoothing devices can be provided instead of the single smoothing device 12 described here.
The achievement of the desired degree of smoothing can be indicated by known tactile devices, which are therefore not shown here for the sake of clarity, in order to automatically actuate the conveying device that conveys the fully smoothed egg to the next station. The conveying device shown schematically in FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of a rod 31 controlled by a lever system. The two upwardly bent ends of the same carry two devices 32 which, as already mentioned, hold the egg 7 during its transport to and from the smoothing station.
The rod 31 is controlled according to a horizontal rhythmic back and forth movement indicated by the arrow F and a similar vertical up and down movement indicated by the arrow F5; the horizontal to-and-fro movement is brought about by a lever 35 rotatable in 36 and controlled by a cam 37, the cam 37 being driven by a shaft 38. The up and down movement is generated by a lever 39 rotatable in 40 and controlled by a second cam 41, this cam 41 being driven by the same shaft 38. The lever 39 drives a coupling that is movable in the vertical direction and is linked to the rod 31.
In this way, by the movement of the rod 31, an already raw egg wrapped with a tinfoil sheet is conveyed from position 7a to the smoothing station, while an egg that has already been smoothed there is lifted from this station and conveyed to position 7b in order to there with a second decorative cover, e.g. B. made of colored cellophane, according to the manner described below.
The cellophane web 45 is fed from the spool 44 rotatably mounted on the support frame 43 via a pulley 46 and between the driver cylinders 48 in front of a vertical plate 52. The driver cylinders 48 are rotated jerkily by a gear 49 which in turn is driven via a chain wheel 50 and a chain 51 by a motor not shown for the sake of clarity; reference numeral 53 denotes an approximately square sheet of cellophane cut from the web of cellophane 45 by a shearing device. The shearing device consists essentially of a slider 54 which is provided with a cutting edge and which can be moved back and forth on a rod 55, which slides back and forth on this rod 55 at suitable intervals and separates a piece of cellophane from the web 45 with its cutting edge.
The frame 1 is provided with an upwardly projecting support arm 56 on which a holding device for the cellophane sheet 53 is mounted. This holding device 57 consists of four arms 58 which are fastened to a cylindrical body 59 at right angles to one another. The free ends carry elastic cushions or brushes 60, which each have the shape of a ring sector and are arranged in such a way that, as indicated in FIGS. 5, 7, they form a circular ring which is interrupted at four points and surrounds an opening 61 in plate 52. The cylinder 59 is horizontally movable along its axis and thereby, after allowing the cellophane web 45 to pass between them and the plate 52, the pads 60 can elastically press the web against the plate.
As can be seen from FIG. 11, the edge of the opening 61 is provided with four circular-arc-shaped humidifiers 81. Each humidifier consists of a metal frame 82 which is provided with a recess 83 and covered with a perforated plate 84. A buffer 85 made of fiber materials, textiles or similar material is fastened over this plate. Water flows via lines 86 into the depressions 83 and further, through the holes in the plate 84, to the buffers 85. The cellophane sheet 53 is pressed against the plate 52 by the cushions 60 and wetted by the humidifiers along an annular surface. The purpose of this moistening is to make it easier for the cellophane to nestle against the curved surface of the egg and to ensure that the cellophane rests better on the egg after it has dried and shrunk accordingly.
The position of the humidifiers specified here has proven to be the most suitable for achieving this purpose.
The water is supplied to the buffers intermittently. The feed takes place as soon as the cellophane sheet 53 is cut from the remaining cellophane web and is stapled against the plate 52 by the cushions 60. The water can be supplied by known means, e.g. B. via four small independent pumps, which are operated either simultaneously or via synchronizing means by the drive motors of the machine, or via a single pressure vessel whose outflow valve is operated via synchronizing means controlled by the movement of cylinder 59.
The egg is pressed from position 7b into position 7c by means of a slide 62 through opening 61. The slide 62 is arranged displaceably in a bore of the cylinder 59 by mechanical means (not shown here). Before an egg is conveyed into position 7b by the carrying device 33, a lever device 63, which is provided with a suction cup, places a frustoconical cardboard base between the cellophane sheet and the egg in front of the opening 61. If an egg is now moved from position 7b into position 7c is pressed, its larger calotte is pressed against the cardboard base 66 and the cellophane sheet 53 and takes both with it through the opening 61; in the process, the sheet 53 slides under the cushion 60, but still remains pressed against the plate 52 by these.
In the case of thin-walled eggs, the pressure exerted by the slide 62 would easily cause their walls to collapse. In order to avoid this, the thrust exerted by the slide 62 is partially absorbed by a suction device which works against the slide 62. This consists of a piston 91 which slides in a cylinder 90.
The piston rod 92 ends in a suction cup 93 which is large enough to grip the cardboard base 66. The inner surface of the suction cup is perforated and is connected to a chamber provided in the suction cup, which in turn, via a channel in the piston rod 92 and a bore in the piston 91, with the cylinder chamber 94 and through this and another line 95 with a vacuum pump Kind of related. In this way, the negative pressure generated by the pump will suck the cellophane sheet and thus also the egg backwards while the pusher 62 executes its forward movement. At the end of this stroke, the suction cup 93 will return to its initial position. This is achieved by connecting line 96 to the vacuum pump and opening line 95.
Instead of the suction device just described, a non-perforated bowl and a compressor can also be used, especially for eggs of a more powerful design, and in this case the whole device would only work as a kind of guide for the egg while it is pushed through the opening by the slide 62 becomes. In this case the lines 95 and 96 would be connected to the compressor in the reverse order than in the case of the vacuum pump.
In order to ensure a regular and uniform formation of the cellophane envelope and the cellophane head 67, the round plate 52 shown in FIGS. 5-10 is provided with an arrangement of push bolts which close the sheet 53 over the free end of the egg and fold it so to shape the tuft and to enable the subsequent binding of the zdlophane leaf. The push bolt arrangement consists of a number of push bolts 68 which are arranged around the opening 61 and can move towards the center thereof. These push bolts are arranged in groups of three bolts each, namely three bolts 68a are set up corresponding to each corner of the square sheet of cellophane, and three further push bolts 68b corresponding to each of the four sides of the square.
The center pin of each group 68a also includes an arm 69 which is rotatably mounted near the tip of that pin. When the bolt is withdrawn, the arm 69 rests on the plate 52, while as the bolt moves forward the arm rises from the plate to a vertical position, according to arrows F7 in FIG.
The movement of the eight groups and the arms 69 is controlled, synchronously with other movements of the machine, by cam disks, not shown here and mounted behind the plate.
The process of wrapping the egg with the cellophane sheet and forming the tufts takes place as follows:
Starting from the position shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, denoted 7c, into which the egg has been advanced by the rod 62 and the suction device, the push bolts 68a (FIGS. 7 and 8) are moved forward while the egg is moved through the Means 62 and 93 is still pushed backwards. On this, the arms 69 lift the corners of the cellophane sheet 53 up from the plate 52, while the sides of the sheet are still resiliently pressed by the cushion 60 against this plate. The corners of the sheet, which will form the tips of the tuft, do not require any moistening and are kept away from the moisteners 81 by the upward movement of the arms 69.
After this operation, the push bolts 68b are also moved forward (FIG. 9) in order to compress the sheet 53 over the egg cap and to form a cellophane head over the latter. The neck of the head thus formed is now encompassed by the gripping arms of a scissor mechanism. At this moment, the push bolts of groups 68b are first withdrawn (FIG. 10), while those of group 68a briefly remain in their position, and the slide 62 is also withdrawn. Now the gripping device 71 is withdrawn in the direction indicated by arrow 8 by a lever 72 which is rotatably mounted in 73 and is operated by an adjustable coupling 74 by means of a second lever 75, which has its pivot point in 76 and by one on the shaft 78 keyed cam 77 is controlled.
This pulls the egg away from layer 7d. In this connection it should be noted that the tuft must slip through the opening 61 in order to be subsequently tied around in the binding station, which is generally designated 100 (FIG. 12), and provided with a loop.
The binding station essentially consists of five fingers 101, 102, 103, 104 and 105. The lower ends of the fingers 101 and 102 are made in one piece with two gears 106 and 107, which are each rotatably mounted on brackets 108 and 109, the in turn sit on a sleeve 110. The sleeve contains a cylinder 111 which can be displaced in it and which ends in a double rack 112. This meshes with the two gears 106 and 107. Within the cylinder 111 and rack 112, a rod 113 is displaceable in an axial bore, the upper end of which carries two arms 114 and 115. These collar approximately horizontally in opposite directions. Their upper edges 116 and 117 are inclined in opposite directions. The fingers 101 and 102 each carry a lever 118 and 119, which in 120 and 121 on lugs 122 and
123 of these fingers are tiltable. The upper end of the lever 118 has a grooved button 124 that cooperates with a grooved surface on the upper end of the finger 101. The upper end of the finger 102 forms a fork 126 with two prongs 127 and 128, while the upper end of the lever 119 carries a roller 129 which is freely rotatable about its own axis and penetrates through a corresponding bore in the prong 127 and thereby the space between the prongs 127 and 128 can close. Finger 102 extends in a straight line, while 101 is bent at right angles at points 130 and 131 each Weil. In this way, the lower ends of fingers 101 and 102 are opposed to arms 114 and 115.
The lever 118 also has right-angled kinks corresponding to the right-angled bends of the finger 101, and therefore the lower ends of the levers lie
118 and 119 over the edges 117 and 116. Between the finger 101 and the lever 118 and between the finger 102 and the lever 119 a spring 132 or 133 is inserted.
A tape, strip or cord 135 is fed from a spool 134 rotatably mounted on the machine frame 1. The free end of this tape is gripped by grippers 136 and cut to size by a shearing device 137. Both are only indicated schematically here. The device containing the fingers 101 and 102 and designated in its entirety by 138 can be seen in FIGS. 3, 4 and 13.
Fingers 103, 104 and 105 are not mounted on device 138; fingers 103 and 104 are rigidly connected to gears 139 and 140, respectively, which mesh with one another. The finger 105 is rotatably supported in 141. The parts 110, 111 and 113 of the device 138, as well as the parts 139, 140 and 141 are connected to one another via suitable actuating and synchronizing means, which in turn are actuated from the machine.
At the beginning of the binding process, the device 100 is in the position shown in FIG. H. Fingers 101 and 102 are in the position shown in FIG. In the subsequent stage, the above-mentioned actuating and synchronizing means rotate the device 138 through a small angle about its vertical axis and simultaneously lift it until the fingers 101 and 102 have reached the position shown in FIG. 15 and the band 135 over this finger remains wrapped in the manner shown in FIG.
The device 138 is then rotated back into its initial e angular position (FIG. 16). The cylinder 111 is now lifted and the fingers 101 and 102 are spread apart over the elements 112, 106 and 107 and reach the position indicated in FIGS. 17 and 18. The band 135 is held in place by corrugations provided on the fingers 101 and 102, which are not shown here for the sake of clarity, and is now in a position of readiness for being tied into a knot. An egg is now brought from the second station over the fingers 101 and 102, specifically by the gripping device 71. For the sake of clarity, only the neck 142 of the cellophane head is indicated in cross section in FIGS.
In the following work step, fingers 103 and 104 come into action. The grippers 136 open and the fingers 103 and 104 pivot about their pivot points 139 and 140. As a result, they wind the tape, over the rollers 143 and 144 provided at their free ends, in the opposite direction around the neck 142 of the tuft, up to the position shown in FIG. The length of the band 135 carried along by the finger 104 will penetrate into the gap between the prongs 127 and 128 of the fork 126 and also between the finger 105 and a roller 145 rotatably mounted at the end of this finger.
The free end of the tape carried along by the finger 103 is placed on the grooved surface 125 of the finger 101. At this moment the rod is raised and the levers 118 and 119 are pivoted about their pins 120 and 121 through the oppositely inclined edge surfaces 116 and 117 of the arms 114 and 115.
In this way, the free end of the tape 135 is gripped between the grooved surface 125 and the grooved button 124, while at the same time the other length of tape is captured in the slot of the fork 126 by the penetration of the roller 129 therein. At the same time, by means not shown here, the role is brought into a position in which it grips the tape located below it.
By lowering the device 138, two loops 146 and 147 are formed which are drawn through the opposite sides 148 and 149 of the loop held open by the splayed fingers 101 and 102. At the same time, while fingers 103 and 104 return to their initial position, fingers 101 and 102 gradually and steadily approach each other until they have reached the position shown in FIG. 12 or 21. The band 135 is now gripped by a gripping device 150 while it is being stretched by the finger 105 in the manner shown in FIG. As a result, the loop is drawn together and the stitch, with its two loops 146 and 147, is tied up. Thereafter, the tape is held in 136 while the shearer 137 cuts it, the grippers 150 open, the finger 105 rotates back to its initial position.
The arms 114 and 115 are lowered again and, under the action of the springs 132 and 133, the levers 118 and 1 j 9 spread and thus free the loops 146 and 147.
As a result of the process just described, a loop is automatically formed around the neck 142 of the chocolate egg, as is shown schematically in FIG. 22, the knot still being shown open for the sake of clarity. The loop can be loosened in the usual way by pulling the two free ends while it offers a strong resistance to pressure coming from the inside of the pack.
The binding station described here can also form nodes without loops by making simple changes.
After the formation of the loop, the egg is lowered into position 7e and removed from the machine in the direction of arrow F1 by a conveyor belt 79 which runs around rollers 80.
The machine shown performs three operations of smoothing a tinfoil sheet placed raw on the egg, wrapping it with a cellophane sheet and tying it with a mesh quickly and completely automatically, with the greatest evenness of the pack obtained.
Of course, the arrangement of the various stations and their connection by means of conveying and synchronizing means can be implemented in various ways. So z. B. the plate 52 can also be placed horizontally, in which case the devices for carrying the egg through the hole 61 would work vertically. Likewise, the size and design of the various stations for packing and binding objects of various sizes and shapes can be modified.
