Aero- sil , Ton, Bimsstein, Aluminiumphosphat, Aluminium oxyda Borphosphat u. dgl. Anwendung finden.

Process for the production of acrolein or methacrolein by the catalytic oxidation of propylene or isobutylene
The invention relates to a process for the production of acrolein or methacrolein by catalytic oxidation of propylene or isobutylene with oxygen-containing gases in the gas phase.
Several catalysts or catalyst systems are already known for this reaction. As such, z. B. named: metal selenites and tellurites, especially silver selenite; Copper or silver oxide or other compounds of these metals in the presence of elemental selenium; cuprooxide-containing masses, in the presence of promoters - such as iodine - or not; Bismuth molybdates and / or phosphorous molybdates; Silver and / or tin and / or bismuth tungstates; Cobalt molybdates. It is also known to use catalysts which contain antimony oxide combined with other metal oxides or not.
The following are mentioned as such: molybdenum, tungsten, tellurium, copper, titanium, cobalt and, in particular, tin oxides. The preferred catalyst contains tin antimonates, while it is further mentioned that the catalysts are preferably used for the oxidation of propylene.
It has now been found that mixtures and / or compounds of antimony and vanadium oxides or of antimony, vanadium and phosphorus oxides can be used as catalysts with a good effect and specificity with regard to the oxidation reactions mentioned.
The invention thus relates to a process for the production of acrolein or methacrolein by catalytic oxidation of propylene or isobutylene with oxygen-containing gases in the gas phase at elevated temperature, and is characterized in that a catalyst is used that contains antimony and vanadium and optionally phosphorus in the form their oxides and / or antimony salts that of vanadium or
Contains acids formed by phosphorus oxides.
Particularly suitable catalysts, which are used in the process according to the invention, are composed in such a way that the antimony components are present therein in an amount which is minimally equal to the stoichiometric amount. The stoichiometric amount is to be understood as the amount which corresponds to the formula Sb (VO3) S or SbPO4.
The effect of the catalysts can also be increased if the composition of the mixtures and / or compounds also includes bismuth oxides in addition to the oxides already mentioned. The catalysts are then preferably composed in such a way that both the antimony and the bismuth components are present therein in at least stoichiometric amounts, the amount corresponding to the formula Bi (VO3) 3 or .
BiPO4 should be understood.
When using the method according to the invention, important advantages are achieved over known methods. In particular, when using the process for the preparation of melthacrolein, significantly better yields are obtained. The advantages of the process according to the invention emerge clearly from the high daily yield which can be obtained per liter of catalyst.
In addition to acrolein and methacrolein, smaller amounts of other valuable by-products are usually formed in the process, namely in the oxidation of propylene acetaldehyde and in the oxidation of isobutylene methacrylic acid.
Optimal results are generally achieved in these reactions if the catalysts are composed in such a way that the atomic ratio between antimony or the sum of antimony and bismuth on the one hand and vanadium or the sum of vanadium and phosphorus on the other hand has a minimum value of 0.5 , however, has a maximum value of 1.5 and it has the advantage of using catalysts of this composition. When using catalysts in which the atomic ratio mentioned is below 0.5, both the conversion to acrolein or methacrolein, as well as the yield are low, and when using catalysts in which the atomic ratio exceeds 1.5, a good yield can generally still be achieved, but the conversion is low in this case.
Catalysts to be used according to the invention which contain mixtures of vanadium and phosphorus oxides are preferably composed in such a way that the atomic ratio between vanadium and phosphorus therein is at least 3. If the catalysts contain mixtures and / or salts derived from antimony and also Wis mutoxyd and / or bismuth salts, the atomic ratio between antimony and bismuth can vary between wide limits and z. B. have a value between 0, 1 and 10.
The catalysts to be used can be prepared by intimately mixing the constituents, together with a carrier or not, and then, under certain circumstances, granulating or tableting them. However, it has the advantage to prepare the catalysts in such a way that first a suitable support with the vanadium component, or the vanadium and phosphorus components, in the form of aqueous solutions of the free acids or easily decomposable salts, e.g. B. as ammonium vanadate and phosphoric acid, is impregnated or covered, whereupon the antimony component in the form of an aqueous solution of a salt of an easily volatilized acid, e.g.
B. as antimony chloride, is gradually added up to the desired amount and then possibly the bismuth component, also in the form of an aqueous solution of a salt of an easily volatilized acid, e.g. B. as bismuth nitrate. The resulting products are then converted into the catalytically active form by drying and heating up to a temperature of around 400-600 C.
All kinds of substances, such as finely divided silica gel, e.g. B. in the form of the commercial product. Aerosil, clay, pumice stone, aluminum phosphate, aluminum oxyda boron phosphate and the like. Like. Apply. As will be discussed below, the use of karbound as a carrier offers particular advantages. The catalytically active constituents can be applied to the support in any desired ratio (for example in proportions of 5-60% by weight, based on the support).
In addition to the oxides mentioned, the catalysts can possibly contain even smaller amounts of oxides of other elements, e.g. B. of titanium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, zinc, cadmium, lead, chromium and arsenic.
The process according to the invention is preferably carried out by passing a mixture of propylene or isobutylene and an oxygen-containing gas, preferably air, in the presence of inert gases or vapors or not - and steam is preferred as such - through a resting layer of the catalyst mass. However, it can also be advantageous to let the oxidation take place in a fluidized bed catalyst.
Are catalysts used, which are called carborundum
Contain carrier, the addition of steam as an inert diluent gas can in most cases be completely omitted and an oxygen-containing gas mixture can be used as the oxidizing gas, in which the
Oxygen content is higher than that of air. As a result, the apparatus can be made more compact, while the daily yield per unit volume of catalyst can be increased.
The ratio between alkylene and oxygen can vary within wide limits during oxidation; when using air as the oxidizing gas, such an amount is preferred that 0.1-1.0 mol of oxygen is present per ml of alkylene in the gas mixture, but it can be advantageous to keep the ratio below 0.1 or above 1.0 mol of oxygen each Moles of alkylene to choose.
The amount of inert gas or steam which can also be added to the reaction mixture can also fluctuate within wide limits. For example, when using catalysts that do not contain carborundum, good results are achieved with air as the oxidizing gas when steam is between 0.5 and 15 mol per mol
Alkylene is used in varying amounts.
Suitable oxidation temperatures are mainly temperatures between 300 and 800.degree. C., but the process is preferably carried out at a temperature of about 400-550.degree. The
In the preferred embodiment, the reaction takes place under normal pressure; higher, ere or lower
However, pressures are also possible.
The speed at which the gas mixture is passed through the catalyst layer can also be varied very widely and z. B. a value between
100 and 10,000 1 gas mixture per liter of catalyst mass per hour; however, lower or higher throughput speeds are also possible.
In general, at a high throughput rate, the conversion to acrolein or meth acrolein will be lower, but the yield will be higher; Conversely, at a low throughput speed, the conversion will be higher and the yield will be lower.
After separating the acrolein formed or
Methacrolein, and any acetaldehyde or methacrylic acid that may be produced, from the emerging gas mixture and removal of by-products that may be formed, such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, e.g. B. by known methods, the unreacted alkylene can be fed back to the reaction zone.

The sum of vanadium and phosphorus of 0.5 and between vanadium and phosphorus of 3.0 (that is to say the composition Sb (VO) 3 + SbPO4 corresponding to) is produced by adding an approximately 12 "/ o, well-stirred suspension of Aerosil in water, first an amount of 85% phosphoric acid and then the calculated amount of ammonium vanadate in the form of an approximately 5% by weight solution in hot water is added.
After about 2.5 hours, the calculated amount of antimony chloride will gradually be in
In the form of a concentrated aqueous solution, which also contains about 50 vol. / O of concentrated hydrochloric acid, added. That which arises in this way
The product is stirred for 18 hours at room temperature, then evaporated on a water bath, getrock net in a drying kiln and finally for 18 hours up to one
Temperature between 500 and 510 C heated.
About 50 ml of the catalyst prepared in this way are placed in chunks in a reactor; through this catalyst rest layer is a
Gas mixture passed, which consists of 20 vol / o propylene, 20 vol.% Air and 60 vol / o steam. The throughput rate of the gas mixture is 70001 per liter of catalyst per hour and the reactor is kept at a temperature of 400.degree. The acrolein, acetaldehyde, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide content of the gas mixture emerging from the reactor is determined analytically.
The analytical results show that the conversion of propylene to acrolein is 4.6 mol / o, to acetaldehyde 0.2 mol% and to (CO + CO2) 3.2 mol%. The yield of acrolein, based on the converted propylene, is 57.5 mol / o. In this way, a daily yield of acrolein of 3.6 kg per liter of catalyst is achieved.
In a corresponding experiment in which a gas mixture of 25% by volume of propylene, 25% by volume of air and 50% by volume of steam is passed through at a rate of 56001 per liter of catalyst per hour, the conversion of propylene is to Acrolein 4.1 mol / o, to acetaldehyde 0.6 mol% / a and to (CO + CO2) 3.2 mol%. The acrolein yield in this case is 51.9% / o and the daily yield is 3.2 kg per liter of catalyst.
Example 2
A gas mixture consisting of 20% by volume / isobutylene, 20% by volume of air and 60% by volume of steam is passed through a catalyst resting layer of 50 ml of the same catalyst as described in Example 1. The throughput rate of the gas mixture is 70001 per liter of catalyst per hour and the reactor is kept at a temperature of 400 C. The methacrolein, methacrylic acid, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide content of the gas mixture emerging from the reactor is determined analytically.
The analysis results show that the conversion of isobutylene to methacrolein is 2.6 mol / o, to methacrylic acid is 1.1 mol% and to (CO + CO 2) 3.0 mol%. The yield of methacrolein is based on; on the converted isobutylene 38.8 molto and it is thus produced in this way per day 2.5 kg per liter of catalyst.
Example 3
A catalyst, the mixtures and / or compounds of antimony, bismuth, vanadium and phosphorus oxides. in an atomic ratio between antimony and bismuth of 1.0, between the sum of antimony and bismuth and the sum of vanadium and phosphorus of 1.0 and between vanadium and phosphorus of 3.0 (i.e. the composition Sb (VO3) 3+ SbPO4 + Bi2O3) is produced in the same way as described in Example 1, but in this sense that after the anti-monochloride solution has been added to the suspension, the calculated amount of bismuth nitrate in the form of a concentrated aqueous solution, which at the same time contains about 15 vol / o of 60% nitric acid,
is gradually added.
About 50 ml of this catalyst are likewise introduced in chunks into a reactor. A gas mixture consisting of 20 vol / o propylene, 20 vol / o air and 60 vol / o steam is passed through this catalyst rest layer. The throughput rate is 70001 per liter of catalyst per hour; the reactor is kept at a temperature of 400.degree. The analytical results of the escaping gas mixture show that the conversion of propylene to acrolein is 6.5 mol.- / o, to acetaldehyde 0.0 mol.- / o, to (CO + CO2) 2.6 molto.
The yield of acrolein, based on the converted propylene, is 71.4 mol%, and the daily yield achieved in this way is 5.1 kg per liter of catalyst.
In a corresponding experiment in which a gas mixture of 25% by volume of propylene, 25% by volume of air and 50% by volume of steam is passed through at a rate of 56001 per liter of catalyst per hour and the reactor is at one temperature is kept at 425 C, the conversion of propylene to acrolein is 6.7 mol% to acetaldehyde 0.0 mol / o and to (CO + CO2) 3.0 mol / o. The acrolein yield in this case is 69.1 mol / o and the daily yield is 5.3 kg per liter of catalyst.
Example 4
A gas mixture consisting of 20% by volume isobutylene, 20% by volume of air and 60% by volume of steam is passed through a catalyst resting layer of 50 ml of the same catalyst as described in Example 3.
The throughput rate is 70001 per liter of catalyst per hour; the reactor is kept at a temperature of 400.degree. The analytical findings show that the conversion of isobutylene to methacrolein is 9.9 mol%, to methacrylic acid 0.7 mol / o and to (CO + CO2) 1.7 mol / o. The yield of methacrolein, based on the isobutylene converted, amounts to 80.5 mol / o and the daily yield reaches a value of 9.7 kg per liter of catalyst.
In a corresponding experiment in which the reactor is kept at a temperature of 450 ° C., the conversion of isobutylene to methacrolein is 6.1 mol%, to methacrylic acid 0.2 mol% and to (CO + CO2) 2, 3 mol / o. The methacrolein yield in this case is 70.9 mol% and the daily yield is 6.0 kg per liter of catalyst.
Example 5
A catalyst which contains mixtures and / or compounds of antimony, bismuth, vanadium and phosphorus oxides in an atomic ratio between antimony and bismuth of 1.0, between the sum of antimony and bismuth and the sum of vanadium and phosphorus of 1, 0 and between vanadium and phosphorus of 3.0, i.e. corresponding to the composition Sb (VO) 3 + SbPO4 + Bi203, is produced by placing an amount of carborundum in chunks with dimensions between 3 and 5 mm in a warm, about 7 wt. brings the above, aqueous solution of ammonium vanadate, to which the calculated amount of phosphoric acid was added at the same time, furthermore this suspension is evaporated on a steam bath while stirring,
then add the calculated amount of antimony chloride in the form of a concentrated, aqueous solution, which at the same time contains about 50 vol. / o of concentrated hydrochloric acid, then evaporate again, the e calculated amount of bismuth nitrate in the form of a concentrated, aqueous solution, which also contains about 15 vol .- / o contains concentrated nitric acid, adds and finally, after evaporating, the resulting mass is dried at 100 ° C. and heated to a temperature of 500 ° C. for 16 hours. The catalyst obtained in this way contains the oxides mentioned in an amount of 24% by weight.
A gas mixture consisting of isobutylene, air and oxygen is passed through a resting layer of about 50 ml of this catalyst at normal pressure, and at such a rate that 28001 isobutylene, 20001 air and 400 liters of oxygen are passed per liter of catalyst per hour. The reactor is kept at a temperature of 475 ° C.
The analytical results of the gas mixture emerging from the reactor show that the conversion of isobutylene to methacrolein is 8.1 mol% and the yield of methacrolein, based on isobutylene converted, is 77.9 mol / o. A daily yield of 16.4 kg methacrolein per liter of catalyst is thus achieved.
In an experiment in which a gas mixture consisting of propylene, air and oxygen is passed over the same catalyst under the same reaction conditions at a rate of 28001 propylene, 20001 air and 400 liters of oxygen per hour per liter of catalyst, a conversion of propylene to acrolein is achieved of 3.1 molto and a yield of acrolein, based on unreleased propylene, of 59 molto achieved. The daily yield of acrolein is 5.0 kg per liter of catalyst.
