Be-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 veranschaulicht eine Passierflagge in starrer Ausbildung.

Fig. 6 stellt eine tafelförmige Ausweichflagge in Ansicht dar.

Signal device with a passing flag on an inland ship The invention relates to the design of a signal device with a passing flag on an inland ship, the holding device of which is arranged on the hull in such a way that the spread out flag appears to the side of the ship's profile in the position prescribed for signaling.
Due to the legal regulations applicable to inland shipping, u. a. determines that a vehicle driving uphill on the port side under its own power on the starboard side, approximately in the last third of the same, has to show a blue passing flag, which indicates to the oncoming vehicles that the signaling vehicle is going uphill on the port side.
The blue passing flags that have hitherto been used in practice are usually raised on a flagpole that is exposed under 45 on the starboard side. The flag itself consists e.g. B. made of light textile, so-called flag fabric. Such flags are easily movable in air and wind currents. They often wrap themselves around the flagstick so that they are no longer clearly visible from a distance. As a result, a passing flag designed in the usual way makes constant monitoring and operation necessary.
According to the invention, the above-explained signaling device with a passing flag on an inland waterway vessel is characterized in that the flag is spread out in the position prescribed for signaling in a plane and is stabilized against wind currents and is connected to its holding device in such a way that the stabilized flag surface is in a signaling position, in which its surface is fully visible and can be transferred to a rest position in which it is hidden from view.
This formation of a signal flag according to the invention can be implemented in various ways. So z. B. the signal flag itself made of practically rigid material in the form of a painted sheet metal, colored plastic and the like. Existing panel can be formed around one or with a, z. B. at an edge of the board or through the board surface, z. B. designed as a tube axis is rotatably arranged. Such a panel can also be arranged in a guide frame in such a way that it can be used e.g. B. pulled up by pull cords in full viewing position or lowered into the rest position, in which it dives behind the ship's board, so that it is hidden from view.
One can, however, also use a flag made of cloth or similar flexible material, the flat surface of which is stabilized in that it is clamped in a rigid frame at least partially surrounding this flag surface. A flag stabilized in this way can also be arranged in a guide frame so that it can be rotated or rotated about an axis or can be pulled up and pulled off.
In all of the above, it is prevented that the stabilized flag in the manner mentioned can yield to the air and wind currents, so that it z. B. flaps or wraps around the flagstick.
According to a further embodiment of the invention of the passing flag designed in the manner explained above, the flag is provided with a movement and drive device by means of which it is guided into the signal position and moved out of the signal position so that it is hidden from view. Loading

if the stabilized flag is in a rigid flag board which is pivotably connected to an axis, the flag board can e.g. B. by simple rotation by hand or by means of a lever or by mechanical, z.
B. pneumatic or electric drive can be swiveled around the axis and adjusted so that it is visible in full area in the direction of travel. If the rigid board is rotated further or back, it is moved out of the viewing position so that only its edge is visible in the direction of travel, i.e. it does not represent a signal.
Such a rotatable stabilized flag board can be in both positions, e.g. B. be arranged lockable by means of appropriate stops or other devices. The rotatable axis of the board can expediently run approximately through the middle of the flag surface, so that in the signal position both parts of the flag appearing on both sides are hit by the air flow and the wind with approximately the same force. You can also share the flag board, e.g.
B. halve, and arrange both parts parallel to each other so that they can be swiveled so that when swiveled in the viewing position, both halves of the table appear as a full table.
A flexible flag, stabilized by being stretched out in a frame surrounding its surface, can also be turned in the same way by hand or by mechanical drive into the signal position and into the rest position.
If the movement of the stabilized flag is brought about by means of pull cords which raise the flag board in the visual position or lower it in the rest position, springs can be arranged in connection with such a moved flag which, when a locking device is released, automatically move the flag board into the visual position or the rest position.
In order to keep the wind pressure and the forces acting on the attachment points of the flag surface as low as possible with a stabilized flag, without impairing the good visibility of the flag, the surface of the flag can be provided with openings, e.g. B. be provided with holes or slots through which the air flow passes in the signal position of the flag, while the parts between the openings ensure the good visibility of the flag from a great distance. The color of the flag can vary depending on the material from which it is made, e.g.
B. in a paint, a coat of paint, a covering with blue fabric or in a material itself colored in the mass, z. B. consist of plastic.
The flag or flag board, which is held in light blue color essentially in accordance with the regulations, can be provided with a contrasting field, e.g. B. in the form of a white arrow appearing on the flag surface. Such a contrasting sign can be applied to the existing blue flag or flag board, e.g. B. painted with white paint or attached in the form of a sewn-on canvas strip. If the flag consists of fabric impregnated with plastic, it is advisable to use synthetic resins that are resistant to the effects of the weather and have sufficient resistance to cold. Such plastics are z.
B. polyvinyl chloride compounds and vinyl chloride copolymers, as well as polyamide plastics, copolymers of several components and others. The advantage of such plastics is that they are moisture-resistant and temperature-resistant, do not freeze and do not allow snow to adhere. A major disadvantage of the previously customary fabric flags was that the same when they were z. B. were damp, frozen at a low temperature so that you could no longer take them off.
With a motorized drive, the movement of the motor can be transferred to the swivel axis of the flag and controlled in the extreme position by switches and electromagnetic locking.
The formation of the flag in rigid or flexible form made of synthetic resin can be done in various ways, e.g. B. such that the plate or film of the flag is made entirely of polyvinyl chloride, also in the form of a fabric impregnated or coated with the synthetic resin, also in the form of a plastic fabric with or without special impregnation. Metal sheets can also have such a plastic coating, e.g. B. PVC coating are provided.
The good visibility of the flag, even in invisible weather, can be improved by arranging a light source, possibly in the form of a flashing light, in connection with the flag, which continuously or intermittently illuminates the flag surface that has been brought into signal position.
In the accompanying drawings, various embodiments of a flag for inland navigation vessels are shown schematically and by way of example.
Fig. 1 illustrates a passing flag in a rigid design.
FIG. 2 is a side view of the passing flag arrangement according to FIG. 1.
3, 4 and 5 show different embodiments of a rigid or flexible flag. 6 shows a further design variant of the passing flag.
In detail, in Figs. 1 and 2, the reference numeral 1 designates the footplate of a z. B. on the ship deck next to the wheelhouse attached storage rack, between the side stands 2 and 3, an axis 4 is rotatably or pivotably mounted, which in this case made of rigid material, for. B. from painted sheet metal, a plastic-coated plate o. The like. Existing surface 5 of the flag carries. The horizontal rest position or the vertical signal position of the rotatable flag 5 is limited by stops 6, 7 arranged on the bearing stands 2 and 3.
The flag surface is cut out 8 verses "

hen, which can be of any size, sized and arranged to substantially reduce the drag offered by the flag to the air flow or wind.
In the present exemplary embodiment it is assumed that the signal flag is driven by means of a motor 9, the rotational movement of which is transmitted from the axis 10 of the motor to the axis 4 of the flag with the aid of V-belts 11, 12 or a similar transmission.
The flag shown in cross section according to Figure 3 consists of a rigid, z. B. made of wood, metal or the like. Plate 29, which is provided with a plastic coating 30.
According to FIG. 4, the flag in a rigid or flexible design consists of a fabric 31 impregnated with plastic, in particular with a polyvinyl chloride.
According to FIG. 5, it is assumed that the flag consists of a thin, flexible plastic film 32. The rotatable axis required for the deployment of the flag or for its transfer to the rest position can be used with all forms of flags in any position, e.g. B. be arranged in a center line or in an edge line thereof.
Fig. 6 shows a tabular alternative flag in view. The reference numeral 31 denotes a metal frame with clamped in the frame and thus stabilized, flexible, z. B. made of a plastic film or plastic-coated fabric existing flag 32. The frame 31 is rotatably mounted on an extension arm 34 rigidly attached to the stand 33 so that it is made of a motor 35, the axis of which is parallel to the axis of the shaft 34 the drawn signal position, in which the surface of the flag 32 is fully visible, can be rotated into the horizontal position and vice versa back into the signal position. The rigid axle 34 can, for.
B. be connected to a horizontal extension 37 of the stand 33 by means of a special mounting structure 36. The stand can be raised and lowered and can be fixed in any height position by means of a screw 38 in a standpipe 39 attached to the deck.
By vertical displacement of the stand 33 in the tube 39, the height of the flag z. B. can be adapted to the clearance height given for a pass. The flag can also be brought into any desired angular position by rotating the stand 33.
In practice it has been shown that if the flag to be stabilized has a flexible design, the usual normal flag cloth is not suitable, but instead flexible, non-porous and non-frost-sensitive plastic films or fabric impregnated with plastic can advantageously be used instead. The advantages of such a design of the flag are based, apart from the special strength and resistance of the material, on its increased usability under all weather conditions, especially in winter.
The passing flag is also advantageously designed for night signals in such a way that it is provided with self-luminous or highly reflective surfaces in whole or in individual places, so that the unfolded passing flag strongly reflects the light of the headlights of oncoming ships or other light sources and thus also from a long distance is recognizable as a signal flag. Such a self-luminous or highly reflective design of the flag can, for. B. by impregnating the flag cloth or individual surface parts of the same with weather-resistant luminous paint or by weaving highly reflective, z. B. metallic threads o. The like. Take place in the flag cloth.
