Winch Winches are machine components very frequently used for lifting devices such as cranes, overhead cranes, etc., for transport devices, such as funiculars, cable cars, lifts, freight elevators, etc. They include a drum on which one or more cables are wound, exerting a tensile force from the load to be moved. These drums are rotated by a mechanism generally comprising a drive motor, a set of toothed wheels, achieving a high gear ratio, at least one brake capable of locking the drum and stopping the load in the position it busy.
As soon as the load to be moved becomes important, it is preferable, instead of simply increasing the diameter of the carrying cable, to increase the number of strands of the carrying cable, making a block, while maintaining a cable of smaller diameter, easier to wind on a drum, to return using small pulleys.
This arrangement, which is very advantageous with regard to the cable, the return pulleys, however has the drawback of increasing the size of the winch due to the presence of these return pulleys, the number of which depends on the number of strands of carrier cable.
The object of the present invention is precisely to produce a winch which, although comprising several strands of carrying cable, has a reduced bulk.
The winch according to the invention comprises a supporting frame, at least one drum on which is wound an even number of strands of carrier cable, at least two bearings fixed to the frame and supporting the drum in the vicinity of its ends, at least a drive mechanism determining the angular position of the drum, at least one cable return pulley, to produce a block, characterized in that the cable return pulley is carried by the drum, respectively by a shaft coaxial with that here, and is arranged between two strands of carrier cable, strands which wind on said drum.
The accompanying drawings represent, schematically and by way of example, several embodiments of the winch according to the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a front view of an execution of a winch with a drum in one piece and a single cable muffled in two times four cable strands with a median return pulley whose axis of rotation is substantially perpendicular to the axis of the drum.
Fig. 2 shows the same winch as above but seen in profile.
Fig. 3 shows a winch seen from the front with a drum made in two parts. The carrying cable is double, the two cable elements being connected by a balancing device and symmetrically mounded into two times four cable strands.
Fig. 4 is similar to FIG. 1, however distinguished by the drum which is made in several parts and by the fact that the deflection pulleys are mounted on the drum by sliding bearings.
Fig. 5 shows another winch, the drum being made in several parts, comprising in its middle an intermediate shaft on which the muffle return pulleys are mounted. In this case, the carrier cable is single, and muffed in 6 strands.
Fig. 6 represents the same winch as FIG. 5. but seen in profile. Fig. 7 shows another winch. In this solution, the carrier cable is double, the two strands being arranged in parallel one next to the other. Each strand is in this case wound four times, which distributes the load twice over eight strands of cable, obtaining a high reduction.
Fig. 8 shows a side view of the winch according to FIG. 7.
Fig. 9 shows the execution of a winch with a double coaxial drum therefore comprising two times four strands of carrier cable; in this case, the drum consists of two drums according to the preceding figures, arranged end to end.
Fig. 10 shows another solution of a double drum winch, the two drums being arranged parallel to each other.
The embodiment of the winch according to FIG. 1 comprises the following main elements: the frame of the winch 1, a toothed wheel 2 integral with the axis 3 of the drum 4. This drum 4 is made in one piece but has two parts 4a and 4b right and left. This winch also comprises bearings 5 and 6 for supporting the drum 4 with respect to the frame 1, a carrying cable 7, right half, a carrying cable 8, left half, a hook 9 for an overhead crane, a cross member 10, two pulleys 11 left return pulleys integral with hook 9, two right return pulleys 12 integral with hook 9, a left return pulley 13 mounted on drum 4, a right return pulley 14 mounted on drum 4, an additional wheel balancing 15.
The frame of the winch 1 is made up of the necessary beams and sheets constituting a frame assembled in a rigid part supporting the speed reducers, or the drive motors, the braking systems, etc. ; in fact, all the devices necessary for controlling the rotation of the drum 4 of the winch. They have not been shown in the various figures. Their action is transmitted to the drum 4 by means of one or more toothed pinions meshing with the toothed wheel 2 integral with the axis 3 of the drum 4 of the winch. This drum 4 is carried by the frame 1 of the winch via the two bearings 5 and 6. On the surface of said drum are wound symmetrically, on the right 4a and on the left 4b the two strands of carrier cable 7 and 8 respectively.
The corresponding surface of the drum 4 can be prepared in such a way that this cable winding takes place under the best possible conditions, for example by turning a helical groove corresponding to the section of the cable, and in which is housed the latter in part.
The crane hook 9 carried by the cross 10 comprises, in this case, two return pulleys 11 on the left, and two return pulleys 12 on the right. On the axis of the drum are also mounted two return pulleys, one 13 on the left and the other 14 on the right. These pulleys coaxial with the drum rotate freely with respect to it, and can be fixed so as to allow rotation, without however allowing axial displacement.
The operation of the system is as follows Suppose a load is hung from hook 9, and the operator wishes to move it. It will put the mechanism (not shown in the figure) of the hoist of the overhead crane in motion, so that the wheel 2 turns in the desired direction. The two strands of the cable 7 and 8 wind, respectively unwind slowly, on the two halves of the drum 4a and 4b. This winding has the effect of shortening, respectively lengthening, the length of the strands of the cable, causing the rise, respectively the descent of the wheels 11 and 12, consequently of the hook 9 which is attached to them. This winch further comprises an additional deflection pulley 15 equalizing the tensions existing in the two cable strands 7 and 8.
As all the pulleys 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 are movable around their axis, the tension in each strand of cable connecting the hook of the overhead crane to the drum is equal (disregarding the frictional forces due to the rotation of the pulleys, forces which are negligible). In this arrangement, it will be noted that the return pulleys 13 and 14 are arranged on the drum 4 by means of ball bearings. By arranging these return pulleys 13 and 14 in this way, either coaxial with the drum and between the two cable strands 7 and 8 of the same carrying cable, the size of the winch is reduced considerably.
Fig. 2 is composed of the same elements as FIG. 1, but this time shown in profile. The same marks are used for the same parts.
Fig. 3 shows another embodiment of the winch. It comprises, in addition .des essential elements already mentioned above and constituting the winch, the main parts below. Bearings 20, 21, 22, 23 supporting the drum relative to the frame, a right half-drum 24, a left half-drum 25, a set of flanges 26 for coupling the two half-drums, a positive balancing device 27 connecting the cables 29 and 30, a more or less horizontal axis 28 for the pivoting of the device d '' balancing, the left cable 29 rolled up into four strands on the return pulleys and attached to the left of the balancing device 27,
the right cable 30 rolled up into four strands on the return pulleys and attached to the right of the balancing device 27, a left end shaft 31 of the drum, a shaft 32 of the right end of the drum, a left toothed wheel 33 integral with the drum, a straight toothed wheel 34 integral with the drum. This constructive solution differs mainly from that of FIG. 1 by the following facts. First at each of the two shaft ends 31 and 32, two bearings 22-23 and 20-21 are provided for fixing the drum to the frame, thereby achieving a recessing of the drum on the frame of the winch, which reduces the deformations of the drum due to the loads.
Then the carrier cable is double, com.- posed of two carrier cables 29 and 30 each muffled into four strands, arranged symmetrically, one end of each cable being attached to the balancing device 27. The other end is wound up on the drum 24 and 25. The balancing device 27 replaces the return pulley 15 of FIGS. 1 and 2. In addition, the drum is no longer in one piece, it is made in two parts 24 and 25 rigidly fixed to each other by means of the flange 26 which includes the necessary serial screw.
Another solution that a connecting flange could also have been chosen to connect the two half-drums.
Finally, the drum is equipped with two toothed wheels 33 and 34 placed at each end making it possible to divide in two the torque caused by the load to be handled.
The variant embodiment according to FIG. 4 comprises, in addition to the main parts already mentioned, the following parts A median shaft 40 with respect to the drum, a left end flange 41 of the shaft 40, a right end flange 42 of the shaft 40, a right half-drum 43, a left half-drum 44, a right deflection pulley 45, a left deflection pulley 46.
Fig. 4 shows the same execution as FIG. 1; however, in this case the drum was performed in three pieces. It comprises a median shaft 40 provided with coupling plates 41 and 42 making it possible to rigidly fix the half-drums 4 and 44 and the median shaft 40 to finally constitute a rigid drum. The return pulleys 45 and 46 have, this time, been designed equipped with a sliding bearing, and no longer with ball bearings as before.
Figs. 1 to 4 correspond to versions of a winch comprising in fact 8 strands of carrying cable. The hook of the overhead crane 9 is mounted on a cross 10 which carries to the left and to the right of the hook an equal number of return pulleys 11 and 12. FIGS. 1 to 4 represent these hook yokes fitted with two times two pulleys. We could have represented more than two times two pulleys, for example two times three, or even two times four pulleys. It would have been sufficient to add, for example, to FIG. 1 one, two or even more pulleys next to each of the pulleys 11, 12, 13 and 14, while maintaining symmetry, the number of cable strands of the block always being a multiple of four.
In this way, it is possible to increase at will the number of strands of carrying cable and to achieve a winch capable of supporting the heaviest loads, the diameter of the cable remaining the same.
Fig. 5 represents a constructive solution of a winch comprising a number of carrying cable strands which is not a multiple of four, but which is nevertheless even. Fig. 5 therefore shows a winch having 6 strands of carrying cable and comprising three pulleys 50 fixed to the hook 9, two pulleys 51 fixed to the shaft 52 of the drum 53. It uses the same elements as above, the construction of the yoke being modified.
Fig. 6 shows the same winch according to FIG. 5 but seen in profile.
Figs. 7 and 8 represent a constructive solution of a winch derived from the preceding solutions, using the same elements, but this time comprising a double cable arranged one next to the other in parallel. This embodiment comprises the following main elements eight pulleys 70 constituting the yoke of the lifting hook 71, six pulleys 72 carried by the drum, a first left carrying cable 73, a second right carrying cable 74, a half left drum 75, a right half-drum 76, a left pulley 77 of the balancing device, a right pulley 78 of the positive balancing device, an oscillating balance 79 for supporting the pulleys 77 and 78, the axis of oscillation 80 of the balance 79, a beam 81 for supporting the balancing device.
This solution is applicable for rolling bridges designed for very large loads, where it is necessary to keep a small diameter of cable to better allow its winding on a drum as well as its return on pulleys because the minimum diameter of the cable. drum and deflection pulleys depends on the diameter of the cable. The latter is very limited for manufacturing reasons, which makes it more difficult to solve the problem of very heavy loads to be handled. It is indeed much easier to make a long cable than a thick one.
This embodiment therefore comprises eight return pulleys 70 fixed to the hook 71 of the overhead crane, six return pulleys 72 carried by the drum itself. There are therefore in all 16 strands of carrying cable which wind up symmetrically, four strands at a time, two on each side on two half-drums 75 and 76 arranged as before. Fig. 8 shows a side view of this arrangement. In this case the winch comprises a balancing device, intended to equalize the tensions existing in the two cables 73 and 74 in parallel. This com device takes a balance 79 which carries two pulleys 77 and 78 at both ends.
In its middle, the balance oscillates around a substantially vertical axis 80. Cable 73 passes over pulley 77, while cable 74 passes over pulley 78. The tightest cable tends to cause the pulley on which it passes to retract towards the hoisting axis of the winch, which has the effect of , by means of the balance 79 and of the axis 80, to bring out the other pulley and, consequently, to tension the less tensioned cable.
Fig. 9 shows a constructive solution of an overhead crane winch comprising four simultaneous cable windings, but this time arranged on a double drum 90a, 90b arranged end to end. In this solution, the yoke of the hook 91 carries two pairs of pulleys 92 mounted on a cross member 93 itself carrying, in its central part, the hook 91. Pulleys 94 are mounted free by means of plain bearings on the central part. of the two halves 90a, 90b of the double drum.
A single cable element 95, the ends of which wind around the same half of the drum 90a, 90b respectively, passes over the group of respective pulleys 92 and 94. This arrangement makes it possible to raise the yoke of the hook 91 of the overhead crane substantially. closer to the drum 90a, 90b than the previous solutions, which provides an appreciable gain in lifting stroke. This solution is suitable for heavy loads to be handled. However, it has the drawback of being more bulky, in the sense corresponding to the length of the drum 90a, 90b.
Fig. 10 shows another arrangement of a double drum winch 100a, 100b. This time the two drums are arranged parallel to each other. The hook 101 is carried by a cross member 102 at the ends of which are mounted pairs of pulleys 103. A deflection pulley 104 is freely mounted on each drum 100a, 100b respectively. The four cable windings therefore work in an arrangement similar to that of FIG. 9.
This solution greatly reduces the space requirement in the lifting direction, allowing increased lifting heights compared to the devices according to fig. 1 to 8. But it has the drawback of increasing the size in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the drums, which reduces the corresponding stroke. This solution is suitable for very heavy loads to be lifted.
The choice between the solutions according to fig. 7, 8, 9 and 10 is a specific case, it must intervene according to the room available and the mission to be fulfilled.
