EMI0001.0073
worin R eine niedere Alkylgruppe oder ein;

Beispiel <I>31</I> 3 Teile des Farbstoffs gemäss Beispiel 27 werden in 4000 Teen Wasser dispergiert.

Process for dyeing and printing polyester fibers made from aromatic polycarboxylic acids and polyhydric alcohols The requirements placed on the dyes when dyeing aromatic polyester fibers from aqueous dyestuff dispersion are complex.
The first prerequisite for the production of an industrially usable dye is an excellent drawability of the disperse dye used. Dyes with poor drawability tend to agglomerate, especially when dyeing aromatic polyester fibers in closed circulation apparatus, and thus to filtration effects. When dyeing with insufficiently pulling
Disperse dyes are therefore very often given poorly colored, uneven, rubbing and solvent-poor dyeings.
The FOulardier thermofixing process, which is often used in practice for dyeing fabrics consisting of aromatic polyester fibers, poses an additional requirement. Only disperse dyes with good fiber affinity and excellent sublimation fastness are suitable for this dyeing process.
In addition, the reserve capacity of the disperse dye used is decisive for the dyeing of polyester-containing blended fabrics. In addition to the above-mentioned application requirements which are placed on the dyes, the colorations produced using these dyes must above all meet the demands of the consumer. In this regard, very good fastness to light, washing and perspiration of the dyeings is the most important requirement.
It is known that a considerable number of disperse dyes which are suitable for dyeing cellulose acetate have at the same time a moderate, but sometimes even very good, drawability on aromatic polyester fibers. Even with good drawability, these dyes can often not be used industrially for dyeing aromatic polyester fibers because they do not meet the requirements with regard to sublimation or lightfastness.
From French patent specification no. 834 538, for example, the use of barbituric acid azo dyes for dyeing cellulose ester and ether fibers is known.
It states that the lightfastness of the barbituric acid azo dyes is improved if the aryl radical of the diazo component contains an alkoxy or aryloxy group in the o-position to the azo bridge.
It has now been found that valuable greenish-yellow and yellow dyeings and color prints with better lightfastness on polyester fibers made from aromatic polycarboxylic acids and polyhydric alcohols are obtained if these are obtained with aqueous dispersions of sparingly water-soluble monoazo dyes of formula I.

wherein R is a lower alkyl group or;
. where appropriate, by lower alkyl groups, preferably methyl groups or halogen atoms, in particular chlorine atoms, substituted phenyl groups, R1 a lower alkyl or alkoxyalkyl radical and R # "denote a phenyl radical optionally substituted by lower alkyl or alkoxy groups, nitro groups or halogens.
From this it has surprisingly been found that the dyes which can be used according to the invention and which contain an optionally substituted phenyl radical or a lower alkyl or alkoxyalkyl radical in the barbituric acid component as characteristic N1, N3 substituents, are easy to draw and, with increasing concentration, also by a distinguish good build-up ability.
Monoazo dyes of the formula I which can be used according to the invention can be prepared in the customary manner by the diazonium compound of an amine of the formula II

with a coupling component of the formula <B> 111 </B>

clutch.
The coupling of the diazonium compound of an amine of the formula 11 with the coupling component of the formula III is preferably carried out in a minerally acidic to weakly acidic aqueous medium, in particular at a pH of 4 to 4.5.
In the case of mineral acid coupling, the acid is expediently gradually blunted, for example with alkali salts of lower fatty acids.
The coupling component of the formula III he keeps z. B. by condensation of a urea of the formula
EMI0002.0043
with malonic acid, expediently in an inerLn organic solvent such as chloroform, in the presence of a dehydrating agent, e.g.
B. in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride, or by reacting the above N, N'-disubstituted urea with cyanoacetic acid to give the corresponding cyanoacetylurea, conversion of the same in an alkaline medium to 4-aminouracil and saponification of the imino group to the oxo group, e.g.
B. with boiling dilute hydrochloric acid. The azo dyes of the formula I which can be used according to the invention are expediently brought into a finely divided form by grinding with dispersants.
Suitable dispersants are, for example, anionic, such as alkylarylsulfonates, condensation products of formaldehyde with naphthalenesulfonic acids, ligninsulfonates, or non-ionic, such as fatty alcohol polyglycol ethers. It is advantageous to use mixtures of the dispersants mentioned.
In this preparation, the dyes that can be used according to the invention are suitable for dyeing textile fibers made from high molecular weight esters of aromatic polycarboxylic acids with polyfunctional alcohols, for example from polyethylene glycol terephthalate, polyethylene glycol isophthalate or polyhexahydroxylyldiol terephthalate fibers, such as dacron, terephthalate fibers,
Kodel and Vycron and other similar aromatic polyester fibers.
The dyeing of aromatic polyester fibers with aqueous dispersions of dyestuffs of Formula 1 is preferably carried out at: temperatures of over 100 ° C. under pressure. The dyeing can also be carried out at the boiling point of the dyebath in the presence of dye transfers such as phenylphenol, polychlorobenzene or similar auxiliaries, or it can be carried out using the padding process followed by heat setting at 180-210 ° C.
Fabrics made of aromatic polyester fibers can also be printed with aqueous dispersions of dyes that can be used according to the invention and then steamed or heat-set.
The dyes which can be used according to the invention give very strong greenish-yellow and yellow colorations on the fibers mentioned. The dyes have excellent drawability, especially on polyglycol terephthalate fibers. Thanks to their good fastness to sublimation, they can be used very well for dyeing polyester fabrics using the padding / thermosetting process.
When dyeing blended fabrics consisting of cotton-polyester, they reserve the cotton content very well. Monoazo dyes of the formula I also reserve the wool content exceptionally well in the dyeing of mixed fabrics consisting of wool-polyester.
The dyes which can be used according to the invention can also be uniformly colored with commercially available swelling agents. With them, you get good and even dyeings even on tightly twisted fabrics or hard-twisted yarns. The colorations are very good mill, solvent, over-dyeing and decade-fast. They also have excellent fastness properties, especially very good light, washing, rubbing,
Sweat and exhaust gas fastness.
By combining the monoazo dyes of the formula 'I with blue disperse dyes, pure, uniform, well-dyed, lightfast and sublime-fast green dyeings are obtained on aromatic polyester fibers.
If R 1 is a lower alkyl radical in dyes of the formula 1 which can be used according to the invention, this preferably has 1 to 4 carbon atoms. According to the definition, this alkyl radical can be substituted by a lower alkoxy group, such as the methoxy or ethoxy group.
The lower alkoxy groups as constituents of Ri should be separated from the ring nitrogen by at least 2 carbon atoms.
As optionally lower alkyl or alkoxy groups, nitro groups or halogens substituted phenyl radical R2 preferably denotes the phenyl, methylphenyl, ethylphenyl, methoxyphenyl, ethoxyphenyl, chlorophenyl, bromophenyl, nitrophenyl, dimethylphenyl,
Dichlorophenyl, methyl methoxyphenyl or methyl chlorophenyl group.
In preferred monoazo dyes of the formula I which can be used according to the invention, Ri is a lower alkyl radical and R2 is a phenyl radical which is optionally substituted by methyl, methoxy, nitro groups or chlorine atoms.
Of particular interest are those monoazo dyes of the formula I which can be used according to the invention in which R is a lower alkyl group or a phenyl group, R is a lower alkyl radical and R 2 is a phenyl radical which is optionally substituted by a methyl, methoxy, nitro group or by a chlorine atom.
These dyes are particularly effective on polyethylene glycol terephthalate fibers and give dyeings that are very lightfast and sublimation fast. They are also characterized by their good ability to reserve wool and cotton.
In the following examples, parts mean parts by weight. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
<I> Example 1 </I> 2 parts of the dye prepared according to the process described below are dispersed in 4000 parts of water. 20 parts of the sodium salt of o-phenylphenol and 20 parts of diammonium sulfate are added as swelling agents to this dispersion and 100 parts of polygllycol terephthalate yarn are dyed with it for 1/2 hour at 95-98. The dye bath is largely exhausted.
The dyeing is rinsed with water and then aftertreated at 80 for 15 minutes in 4000 parts of water with 12 parts of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution and 4 parts of octylphenyl polyglycol ether. Finally, the colored material is rinsed again thoroughly with water and then dried.
This gives a yellow coloration which is fast to washing, light and sublimation.
In the above example, if the 20 parts of the sodium salt of o-phenylphenol are replaced by 20 parts of one of the following commercially available swelling agent preparations, such as, for example, 20 parts of o-phenylphenol emulsion or 20 parts of p-chlorophenoxyethanol emulsion or 20 parts of dichlorobenzene Emulsion or 20 parts of cresotlinic acid methyl ester emulsion or 20 parts of a 1:
1-emulsion of dimethyl terephthalate + benzanilide and if the rest of the procedure is as described in the above example, a yellow coloration of just native quality is obtained.
If in the above example the 100 parts of polyglycol terephthalate yarn are replaced by 100 parts of polyglycol isophthalate yarn or 100 parts of poly-bis-hydroxymethyl-cyclohexane-terephthalate fibers and the dyeing is carried out under the conditions given above, a yellow dyeing with equivalent properties is obtained.
The dye used above is prepared as follows: A fine suspension of 16.8 parts of 1-amino-2-nitro-4-methoxy-benzene in 500 parts of water, 60 parts of 36% hydrochloric acid and 5 parts of cetyl polyglycol ether is made by adding 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite diazotized in the usual way at 0 = 5. The diazonium salt [solution is clarified and at 0-5 a solution of 21,
8 parts of 1-phenyl-3-methylbarbituric acid in 800 parts of water and 200 parts of 80% acetic acid were added.
Then the pH of the coupling bath is increased to 4-4.5 by adding sodium acetate. When the coupling is complete, the yellow precipitate which has separated out is the composition of the formula

corresponds, filtered off, washed ge with a lot of water and dried in vacuo at 60-70. The dye obtained is then ground with the sodium salt of a condensation product of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and formaldehyde.
Dyeings with similar good properties are obtained if, in the above example, dyes are used which are prepared by coupling diazo components from column 2 of Table I below with coupling components from column 3 of the same table.

You then go with 25 parts of hard-wound polyglycol terephthalate yarn at 50, heated the closed bath ge in 45 minutes to 125 to 130 and dyed a further 45 minutes at this temperature under pressure. The dye bath is well exhausted. The dye is then rinsed with water, soaped and dried.
A yellow dyeing with good fastness properties to washing, rubbing, perspiration, light, sublimation and solvents, which is free of any visible dye residue, is obtained. The dye used in this example is made as follows:
A fine suspension of 16.8 parts of 1 amino-2-nitro-4-methoxy-benzene! in 500 parts of water, 60 parts of 36% strength hydrochloric acid and 5 parts of cetyl polyglycol ether, azotization is carried out in the customary manner at 0 to 5 by adding 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite.
At the same time, 25.3 parts of 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methy'l-barbituric acid are dissolved in 300 parts of water by adding 8 parts of sodium hydroxide. The alkaline 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl, - barbituric acid solution is added dropwise at 0 to 5 to the prepared diazonium salt solution. The pH of the coupling bath is then increased to 4 to 4 by adding sodium acetate,
5 is set. After the coupling reaction has ended, the yellow precipitate, its composition of the formula

corresponds, filtered off, washed with water and dried in vacuo at 70 to 80.
10 parts of the coupling product obtained in this way are brought into a form which is finely dispersible in water by grinding with the sodium salt of a condensation product of naphthaic 2-sulfonic acid and formaldehyde and 10 parts of lignm sulfonate.
The aqueous dispersion of the dye prepared in this way is very stable and does not tend to precipitate, especially when dyeing polyethylene glycol terephthalate sliver, yarn and fabrics at 125 to 130 pressure.
The 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methylbarbituric acid used as coupling component in this example is obtained, for example, by converting N- (3'-chlorophenyl) -N'-methylurea with cyanoacetic acid to give the corresponding cyanoacetylurea Cyanoacetylurea with sodium hydroxide to form 1- (3'-chlorophenyl)
-3-methyl-4-amino-uracil converts and then cleaves the amino group in dilute boiling hydrochloric acid. The pure 1- (3'-chlorophenyl) -3-methyl-barbituric acid, which has a melting point of 162 to 163, is obtained from the crude product by crystallization from ethanol.
Similar good results are obtained if the above dye is replaced in this example by dyes according to Examples 17 to 29 and thus dyed polyglycol terephthalate, polyhexahydro - xylyldiol terephthalate or poly glycol isophthalate sliver, yarn or fabric under the conditions described above.
The dyestuffs according to Examples 17 to 29 are obtained if the diazo components listed in column 2 of Table 11 below are reacted with one of the coupling components listed in column 3 of the table under the conditions described above, and then the coupling products obtained are reacted converted into a finely water-d'ispersible form under the conditions given above.

20 parts of the dye prepared according to the process described below, finely dispersed in 7.5 parts of sodium alginate, 20 parts of triethanolamine, 20 parts of octylphenyl polyglycol ether and 900 parts of water.
The fabric is squeezed off to a liquor content of about <B> 100% </B> and dried at 100%. Then the staining is fixed at a temperature of 210 for 30 seconds. The dyed goods are rinsed with water, soaped and dried. This gives a wash, rub, light and sublimated pure yellow coloration.
The dyes used in the other examples result in dyeings of the same quality in this process.
The dye used in this example is prepared as follows: A fine suspension of 23 parts of 1-amino-2-nitro-4-phenoxy-benzene in 300 parts of water and 30 parts of 36% hydrochloric acid is made by pouring in a solution of 6.9 parts Sodium nitrate dianotized in 50 parts of water at 0-5.
The clear diazonium salt solution is added dropwise at 0-5 to a solution of 27.6 parts of 1-phenyl-3- (γ-methoxypropy'll) -barbituric acid in 1250 parts of water and 250 parts of 80% acetic acid . The pH of the reaction mixture is then adjusted to 4-4.5 with sodium acetate.
The resulting yellow coupling product, its composition of the formula

corresponds, is filtered off, washed neutral with dilute sodium carbonate solution and finally with water until salt-free. The dye is dried in vacuo at 60-70 and then ground with a mixture of lignin sulfonate and the sodium salt of a condensation product of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and formaldehyde.
The 1-phenyl-3- (y-methoxypropyl) -barbituric acid used above as a coupling component is produced, for example, by reacting N-phenyl-N '- (y-methoxypropyl) urea with malonic acid in chloroform in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride. hold.
Example <I> 31 </I> 3 parts of the dye according to Example 27 are dispersed in 4000 teen water. 20 parts of the sodium salt of o-phenylphenol and 20 parts of diammonium sulfate are added to this dispersion as swelling agent, and 100 parts of polyglycol terephthalate yarn are dyed at 95 to 98 for 90 minutes.
The dyeing is rinsed and then treated for 15 minutes at 80 with 12 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution and 4 parts of octylphenyl polyglycol ether in 4000 parts of water. The dyed yarn is then again rinsed thoroughly with water and then dried. This gives a pure yellow coloration which is distinguished by very good lightfastness.
If the 100 parts of polyglycol terephthalate yarn in the above example are replaced by 200 parts of a mixed fabric made of cotton and polyglycol terephthalate in a ratio of 1: 1 and dyed under the specified conditions, the polyglycol terephthalate portion is dyed pure yellow as above and at the same time remains the Cotton very well reserved.
The dyes described in the other examples reserve the cotton content similarly well when dyeing cotton-polyglycol terephthalate blended fabrics.
<I> Example 32 </I> 3 parts of the dye according to Example 17 who are dispersed in 4000 parts of water. 20 parts of the sodium salt of o-phenylphenol and 20 parts of diammonium phosphate are added to this dispersion as swelling agent, and it is dyed for 90 minutes at 95 to 98,200 parts of an RTI

Under these conditions, a pure yellow color is obtained on the polyethylene glycol terephthalate fibers of the mixed fabric, while the wool content remains well reserved.
The dyes described in the other examples reserve the wool content similarly well in the dyeing of wool-polyglycol terephthalate blended fabrics.

The dyeing is then rinsed and treated in the manner described in Example 31 with dilute sodium hydroxide solution and octylphenyl polyglycol ether. In this way, a uniform green color is obtained that is characterized by excellent wash, rub and light fastness.
In the above example, the 20 parts of the sodium salt of o-phenylphenol are replaced by 20 parts of one of the following commercially available agents, for example by 20 parts of o-phenylphenol emulsion or 20 parts of p-chlorophenoxyethanol emulsion or 20 parts of dichlorobenzene emulsion or 20 parts Cresotinic acid methyl ester emulsion or 20 parts of a 1:
1-emulsion of dimethyl terephthalate and benzanilide, and if the rest of the procedure is the same as before, green dyeings of the same quality are obtained.
A combination of the above blue B.romonaphthoxidine dye with the dyes described in the other examples also gives uniform green colorations with good lightfastness.

Then one goes with 100 parts of polyglycol terephthalate yarn at 50, heated the bath in the closed pressure apparatus for 45 minutes to 125 to 130 and dyed 45 minutes at this temperature. The dye is then rinsed with water, soaped and dried. A uniform green dyeing of good fastness to washing, perspiration, sublimation and rubbing is obtained in this way.
<I> Example 35 </I> Polyglycol terephthalate fabric is printed on a printing machine at 25 with a liquor of the following composition: 50 parts of the dye according to Example 21, finely dispersed in 300 parts of water, 40 parts of urea, 400 parts of crystal rubber thickening and 200 parts of a 10 % aqueous p-phenylphenol emulsion. The printed fabric is steamed for 60 minutes at 100 and then soaped, rinsed with water and dried.
This gives a yellow color print that is very fast to washing, rubbing, light and sublimation.
A print with similarly good properties is obtained if the 200 parts of 10% p-phenylphenol emulsion in the above example is replaced by 200 parts of water and the printed fabric is steamed for 30 minutes under an overpressure of 0.5 atmospheres or for 1 minute in a hot air stream fixed at a temperature of 2l0.
The dyes described in their preparation in the other examples give similarly good color prints when dyeing by this method on polyglycol terephthalate fabrics.
