Fig. 11 is a partially sectional elevational view of a variant of FIG. 10.
Fig. 12 is a section taken along line 12-12 of FIG. 11.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the carburetor comprises a water tank 1 which must be mounted above a homogenizer device H but not necessarily above the carburetor as shown. The water leaves the tank see 1 by gravity through a strainer 2 provided with a filter 3 and connected to an electromagnetic valve 4 controlling the flow of water.
A float 5 is mounted to tilt inside the tank and serves to close a circuit comprising a warning device when it is in its horizontal position in contact with the metal end 6 of the strainer 2, that is to say tell when the tank is empty.
A connector 7 directly connects the reservoir 1 to the electromagnetic valve 4 and is axially drilled with a calibrated hole 8, the outlet of which has a perforated thread 9.
The electromagnetic valve 4 comprises a pis ton 10 controlling the flow of water and actuated by contacting the motor.
A pipe 11 brings the water leaving the valve 4 into a fitting comprising a threaded cylinder 12 inside which is screwed a part 13 provided with a needle 14 controlling the exit of the water through an orifice 15. A nut 16 retains part 13 with the interposition of a seal 17.
The water leaving the needle connection passes through a pipe 18 and arrives at a junction piece 19 connected to a pipe 20 for supplying fuel, to a pipe 21 of excess fuel as will be described later and to a pipe 22 starting point for the fuel-water mixture. The pipe 22 ends at the homogenizer device H via orientable couplings 23, 23 'and the homogenized mixture emerges through the coupling 24 and flows into a pipe 25 connected to the nozzle holder 26 mounted on the carburettor shown diagrammatically in C.
This nozzle holder 26 is of a particular construction in that it comprises a central tubular body 27 screwed into the location 28 of the usual nozzle holder of the carburetor, and carrying at its free end a nozzle 29 opening into the air intake duct 30. A longitudinally perforated hollow screw 31 axially receives the homogenized mixture of the pipe 25 and has a radial passage 32 communicating with the pipe 21 by an orientable connection 33 to eliminate the excess mixture when this has not been used by the engine.
The fuel from the constant level tank of the carburetor C passes into the chamber 34 surrounding the tubular body 27 and where it flows in inclined or straight circumferential grooves formed in an intermediate disc 35 before passing into a swiveling connector 36 communicating with the pipeline 20.
The fuel is extracted from the fuel tank 37 by means of a pump 38 to bring it into the constant level tank of the carburetor C. When stopped, this pump 38 acts as a valve preventing the fuel from flowing. return to the tank.
The operation of the carburettor described is as follows When the motor to be supplied is started, the contact simultaneously triggers the electromagnetic valve 4 which opens the passage for water in line 11. The water then passes through the needle connection 14 to arrive metered in a quantity corresponding to the immediate need of the engine in the junction piece 19 where it mixes with the fuel coming from the constant level tank of the carburetor C via the line 20.
The mixture thus formed flows in line 22 and arrives in the homogenizer H, the main types of which will be described later and which is driven by the coaxial electric motor M or by a mechanical transmission. The homogenized mixture then passes through line 25 and arrives at nozzle 29 where it is sprayed into the current of air sucked into the inlet duct 30.
A nozzle 30A of particular construction by the fact that it comprises internally oblique or helical milling 30B terminating in a horizontal annular milling 30C, replaces the nozzle usually used, so as to allow the air to enter in a vortex as it enters the chamber. intake pipe 30, then to ensure better mixing of this air and of the pulverized homogenized mixture, by creating, by the horizontal annular milling, a tur bulence converging towards the diffusion center.
Means, not shown, are also provided for switching the carburetor described on or off independently of the operation of the engine on which it is mounted. These means may include a key switch mounted on the dashboard and can be operated at will from inside the vehicle. One could, on the other hand, incorporate a device for heating the water to prevent the latter from freezing, for example, in the tank 1; as well as a pump feed device, in the case of using a large capacity water tank placed below the homogenizer device.
When the engine is stopped, the water circulation is interrupted and that contained in the pipe 25 falls back by gravity into the device H to undergo a new homogenization there during the next start-up.
The homogenized mixture in excess at the stop comes back by gravity into the pipe 21 and is thus removed from the nozzle holder 26 to pass back into the positive device H during the following cycle. During operation, the homogenized mixture may also be in excess. In this case, it is automatically switched back on by passing through line 21 to be returned to device H.
During tests carried out on an automobile engine, it was found that in particular the CO content of the engine exhaust gases was considerably reduced. The following results were checked by the Federal Laboratory and recorded in its report referenced EMPA No 24166 of May 6, 1964

In the variant of the carburetor shown in FIG. 2, the same reference signs designate the same components as in FIG. 1. This carburetor is used on a diesel engine comprising an injection pump 40 receiving the homogeneous mixture neized in H through a pipe 41 and an orien table connection 42.
The excess homogenized mixture exits the injection pump 40 via a calibrated discharge valve 43 extended by a pipe 43 'and arrives at the bottom of a tank 44 via a dip tube 45. An injection return pipe 46 is connected to line 43 'for the recovery of unused mixture. A pipe 47 connects the bottom of the tank 44 to the suction of the feed pump 38 'by a T-fitting 53 connected to the pipe 52, and the upper part of the tank 44 comprises a filter 48 disposed towards an outlet overflow 49 to evacuate the fuel separated from the water and return it to the tank see 37 by a pipe 50. The needle connection 12 is arranged between the valve 4 and the suction of the feed pump 38 'of the fuel via a T-connector 51 and a pipe 52.
The homogenizer device can be of different types operating by mechanical, electrical or ultrasonic mode. Fig. 3 shows a mechanical homogenizer comprising a rotor enclosed in a housing 54 and fixed to a shaft 55 capable of being driven by a V-belt pulley 56 for mechanical transmission. This shaft could also be coupled directly to an electric motor.
This rotor comprises an upper disc 57 in which are formed axial cells 58 and a lower disc 57 'similar, these discs being arranged on either side of a fixed disc 59 (Fig. 4) perforated and whose perforations 60 correspond to cells 58, 58 'of the rotor disks. The lower part of the casing is closed by a bottom 61 drilled centrally to allow the shaft 55 mounted on a ball bearing to pass through. 61 A seal 63 is also mounted between the rotor and the ball bearing 62.
The other end of the shaft 55 is similarly mounted in a ball bearing 62 'and the sealing is also ensured by a gasket 63' similar to the gasket 63. A cover 64 respectively 64 'is fitted and fixed by screws. in the funds 61, 61 'of the housing to retain the ball bearings.
The bases 61 and 61 'are each pierced with an inlet opening 65 for the fuel-water mixture and respectively an outlet 65' for the homogenized mixture. The mixture entering 65 passes between the discs 57, 57 'of the rotor through the perforated disc 59 thus being homogenized by the rapid rotation of the rotor.
The homogenizer device shown in fia. 5 works by ultrasound obtained mechanically. It comprises a cylindrical body 66 having an upper plate 67 provided with a central vertical inlet 68 for the fuel-water mixture and a horizontal lateral outlet 69 in the lower part of the cylindrical body for the homogenized mixture. A partition 70 integral with the cylindrical body 66 delimits a chamber between it and the upper plate 67.
A rotor 71 is mounted at the end of the shaft 72 in said chamber and comprises a disc having on each face axial cells 73, 73 ', of depth equal to the diameter, intended to face similar cells 74 formed in the upper plate 67 and in the intermediate partition 70. The rotor disc 71 is pierced with holes 75 passing right through it for the circulation of the fuel-water mixture and the partition 70 has in addition to the cells 74 'perforations 76 for the passage of the homogenized mixture in the lower part of the cylindrical body 66 communicating with the outlet 69.
In this case, the homogenization is obtained by ultrasound produced by the cells of the rotor rotating relative to the cells of the upper and lower plates. The rotor shaft 72 can be coupled directly to an electric motor M, or could be driven by a mechanical transmission.
Fig. 6 shows the partition 70 in plan view with the cells 74 'and the perforations 76 of which those at the periphery have a larger diameter. The homogenizer device shown in FIG. 7 comprises a cylindrical body 77 inside which is mounted a rotor 78 integral with a shaft 79 journaled in an upper plate 80 by the intermediary of a ball bearing 81 fixed to the plate 80 by means of a cover 82 held by screws.
The upper face of the rotor 78 has axial cells 83 of depth equal to the diameter corresponding to identical cells 84 formed in an intermediate partition 85 fixed relative to the cylindrical body 77 and the central part of which is pierced to allow the shaft 79 to pass. rotor as well as the homogenized mixture leaving through an orifice 86. Holes 87 pass through the rotor for the passage of the fuel-water mixture and the lower face of this rotor 78, the axis of which forms a dispersing cone 79 ', has axial projections 88 arranged in concentric rings and intended to engage between the corresponding milled parts 89 of a base 90 integral with the cylindrical body 77.
This bottom 90 is drilled centrally at 91 for the entry of the fuel-water mixture.
The operation of this homogenizer device is as follows: the fuel-water mixture flows between the rotor 78 and the base 90 where it undergoes a first mechanical homogenization produced by the axial projections 88 of the rotor and 89 'of the base respectively, then the mixture passes through the perforations 87 and is homogenized more completely by ultrasound between the cells 83 and 84 respectively before flowing through the outlet orifice 86.
The lower face of rotor 78 is shown in plan in FIG. 8. The upper face of the cover 90 is shown in plan in FIG. 9.
The homogenization device shown in FIG. 10 comprises a body 92 'in which is fitted a chamber 94' perforated laterally to receive a hollow screw and an orientable connector 105 for the inlet pipe 106 of the fuel-water mixture previously metered by the flow regulator 12 of fig. 1, and an upper axial perforation also provided with an orientable connector 98 'for the outlet pipe 99' of the homogenized mixture. The emulsion is produced by ultrasound from an electrical source which can be emitted from a piezoelectric triplet 102 mounted at the bottom of the chamber 94 'and fixed by an annular ring 102'.
The triplet is supplied with electric current from an independent high frequency generator. The upper element 107 of the triplet 102 is connected to a negative terminal 108. The lower element to a positive terminal 109 by means of a contact 104 elastically pressed against the triplet 102. Perforations 110 ensure evacuation heat produced by contact with the triplet. Instead of the piezoelectric triplet, an alkaline-earth titanium element could also be used.
The homogenizer device shown in FIGS. 11. And 12 comprises a body 92 in which are arranged two chambers 93, 94. The chamber 93 has an inlet port provided with a hollow screw and a swiveling connector 95 connected to a pipe 96 bringing the fuel. The metered water is brought through a pipe 100 leading to a lateral perforation 101 of the chamber 93.
By flowing from the orientable connector 95 to the chamber 94, the fuel drags the water dosed by the regulator into an internal duct communicating the chambers 93 and 94, the chamber 94 being identical to the chamber 94 'of the fi. 10. The fuel-water mixture is homogenized as described in fig. 10 above. A high frequency generator 103 is incorporated into the positive device H under the housing 103 '. A walking time recorder can also be added.
The carburetor described is especially suitable for internal combustion engines, powered either by carburetion or by injection, and can be adapted to them without making any transformation. It can also be advantageously applied to any other thermal machine and this term is intended to include turbines, burners and other combustion devices using liquid fuel.
Although in the carburetor described, the homogenizer device has been shown in the form of a unit separate from the engine, it could be incorporated into the engine block which would make it possible to reduce the size of the carburetor.
One of the advantages of the carburettor described is to be able to use, without creating damage to the mechanical part of the engine, liquid fuel which can be either crude mineral oil, its distillation and refining derivatives, as well as oil. vegetable, while preventing the formation of carbon and reducing pollution and dilution of the lubricating oil of the engine by the lack of sealing of the segments.
One of the other advantages lies in the fact that it has a small footprint made up of light elements and small dimensions which do not cause additional heat and that it treats at the same time the minimum quantities of liquids to mix corresponding to the volumes sucked at the intake according to the engine's needs, the needle connection ensuring a constant dosage of water for the mixture to be homogenized.
