<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

'CARBURATION' INSTALLATION FOR EXPLOSION AND INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES,
The object of the invention is a vacuum and heated carburetor which can be mounted and used on internal combustion and internal combustion engines. Owing to its ingenious construction and the non-execution of its spare parts, this apparatus allows the re-use of both light fuels at normal vaporization temperatures, and all other fuels or fuel mixtures with high specific weight and high vaporization temperatures. ; it is thus possible to obtain, for the motors mentioned above, a maximum efficiency never achieved until now.
This advantage is guaranteed by the fact that the device itself has a regulator in combination with another special installation and switchable for the two engine service alternatives on the one hand, 9 in the cold state with the use of light fuels' and, on the other hand, in continuous service with heavy fuels or carbide mixtures.
With known carburettors, to date, the air-gas mixture is obtained either by means of a nozzle from which the fuel spurts out, the entry of the necessary air taking place around this nozzle or by means of chambers special vaporization in which liquid fuel must be injected by a suitable pump.
Engines operating according to these principles always present certain irregularities during start-up, in particular when switching from idle to sudden load, and this is because the engine cannot obtain fuel sufficiently quickly for acceleration of its speed. operation which would be necessary to instantaneously attain normal service operation. All these drawbacks and defects are eliminated, under certain conditions, by the present invention.
Not only is the vacuum chamber intended for vaporization of the fuel heated, for example by means of hot exhaust gases, but also simultaneously. and by the same means, the amount of additional fresh fuel necessary for the carburetion is also
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
reheated, this reheating having to be done, preferably, in the immediate vicinity of the place of carburization, namely in the envelope of the vaporizer.
Thus, the mixing of the fuel with prior addition of air (i.e. mixing of the fuel with a small amount of air only) still takes place before the fuel enters the mixing chamber where s 'performs the final and complete mixing with the proportional amount of air necessary for the preparation of the gas mixture. This is where the finished fuel mixture is admitted into the combustion chamber of the engine. However, it is necessary that this air previously mixed with the fuel can be regulated in a sufficient proportion and exactly as it enters the vaporizer so that the engine receives the necessary quantity of fuel in the event of a sudden load.
This is achieved by cleverly constructed spare parts constituting the main carburetor involved.
This vacuum and heated carburetor must be used in addition ;, with any fuel mixture with high specific weight and high vaporization temperature: diesel oils, gas oil, petrol, etc. To achieve this goal, provision has been made, replacing the normal idling jet ;, an auxiliary acceleration device without a jet ;, supplied directly from a float tank related thereto.
One embodiment of this device is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings.

The main float (Figures 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7) consists, as we know, of a cylindrical container A containing a float 1 which opens and closes the needle 2, thus regulating the admission of fuel through the orifice at.
The main jet 3 is provided vertically in the middle of the float; it consists of a small 3 'bronze tube, tapering conically at its lower end; in the middle of the tube, a 2 mm bore 4 has been provided communicating with the interior space of the small tube; its upper end is also conical and fits a seat 5 of the same formē, in the cover 6 of the float chamber. At an exactly calculated height, several holes 7 of 1 mm in diameter are provided in the small -tube. The latter is introduced concentrically into another tube 8 screwed by one of its ends to the cover 6 of the float chamber.
A hole 9 being provided at the other end, a sleeve 10 is fitted therein and the fuel flows through this orifice towards the main nozzle 3. The outer cylindrical surface of this tube 8 serves as a guide for the float. By virtue of its large surface area, the filter 11 is capable of retaining impurities from the fuel to avoid clogging.

The hermetically sealed cover 6 includes the inlet of the air necessary for the formation of the mixture ;, this air combining passing through the opening 12 with the fuel passing through the nozzle, the two then being able to enter together in the hot chamber of the vacuum vaporizer.

In the middle room, a square opening is provided in the longitudinal direction, comprising at both ends two flanges for connection to the exhaust pipe 19 of the engine.
The inner surface of this square section channel is provided in the longitudinal direction with deep grooves 20. A square butterfly valve 21, for adjusting the exhaust gases, is provided on the inside of the outlet side. Part 28 ends in a cylindrical part set at. by means of a butterfly 38 and fixed to the engine suction line by a flange 39. The butterfly valve is actuated by the driver by means of a linkage F attached to the accelerator pedal S
The device (Figure 12) for the reciprocating service of the original gasoline carburetor D and the main heavy fuel carburetor C consists of a frame 42 in which is mounted a cylindrical bar 43 moving in the horizontal direction.
The frame carries a U-shaped fork 44 with two levers 45, 46 independent of each other and crossed by the cylindrical axis 43. These levers have a groove 47 'intended to receive a pin 48 fixed on the axis it follows that one or the other of these two levers 4546 is made integral with the axis :, Therefore, if one lever is coupled to the axis by the pin 48, the other remains free and vice versa. levers 45? 46 are connected by special springs to the butterfly valve 47 of the original gasoline engine and to that 38 of the heavy fuel carburetor.
So by depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine can run on the original gasoline carburetor D with the heavy fuel carburetor C turned off, or it can run on the heavy fuel carburetor C with shutdown. without the original gasoline carburetor D.
EMI4.6
The compensation nozzle 50, shown on the board n ZII is screwed concentrically to the tube 13 on the float A The admission of the preliminary air is regulated by this nozzle in such a way that the quantity always remains constant, however small. or high regardless of engine speed.
This nozzle guarantees the perfect balancing of the amount of pre-air, so that the fuel inlet to the vaporizer is also automatically adjusted for all engine speeds. Therefore, the arrival of the normal amount of mixture is given also when the speed of 60 km / h is exceeded, corresponding to normal and proportionate consumption. Irregularities and excess consumption, which always occur when using the carburettors generally used at the present time when the speed of 60 kg / h is exceeded, are therefore eliminated.
EMI4.7
After this description of all the components of the device it will also be useful to analyze its effect on the operation of the engine.
Considering the assembly of the apparatus shown in figure 1 and assuming the case that the engine runs on a light fuel, for example gasoline ;, the original gasoline carburetor D is supplied by the valve

By operating the R-a button on the instrument panel ,. the lever system F is brought into a position such that by actuating the accelerator pedal
EMI4.9
The Sy lever lever 46 acts on the throttle valve 1i-7 of the original gasoline carburetor while that of the main carburetor remains closed. The exhaust gases from the engine pass through and heat the vaporizer chamber B.
As soon as the required temperature, indicated by the thermometer on the instrument panel
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
G. is reached in -vaporizer B, service can be transferred to the main carburettor. With the help of the button R-a, operating the lever system 45,, 46, the original gasoline carburetor D is switched off and, by the lever 45 connects to the throttle 38, the main carburetor is put into service.
Coming from the main-tank, which in this case contains gasoline ,. the fuel flows towards the float A and is mixed with the prior air, passes through the atomizer 14 and enters the vaporizer In the channels 18 of the vaporizer and as a result of the favorable temperature which prevails there, the mixture is dried and arrives at. main carburetor or by adding fresh air to prepare the necessary detonating mixture to ensure maximum engine performance
Here are the factors that allow this extraordinary yield to be obtained 1) Perfect gasification (dry)
fuel in the vaporizer.
2) Perfect mixing ratios ;, resulting from the combination with the pre-air which gives a greater volume of the gases and which guarantees a better and more efficient supply of the engine for any load. Following practical tests carried out at the rate of rigorous control, it can be said that, by applying the installation described, gasoline consumption is greatly reduced in comparison with the other carburettors used. currently.
To operate the engine with heavy fuels, it is necessary to first fill the main tank with heavy fuel; the light fuel is poured into the small auxiliary tank E and serves only to supply the original gasoline carburetor. D during the short period of starting the cold engine. This auxiliary tank has a separate shut-off valve LA using a button Ra, provided on the instrument panel, the device F is actuated so that the lever 46 is coupled to the butterfly valve 47 of the carburettor D connected to the accelerator pedal, while the throttle valve of the carburetor C remains closed As a result of the operation of the engine, the exhaust gases heat the vaporizer chamber until the required temperature,
indicated by the thermometer fixed on the instrument panel C, is reached.
The heavy fuel which already fills the float, arrives in the state of fog and mixed with the air beforehand in the vaporizer B and enters, suitably dried, into the final mixing chamber C where the complete formation of the mixture takes place. detonating By operating button Ra in the opposite direction, lever 46, connected to the throttle of carburetor D, is disabled by device F, while lever 45 of carburettor C is simultaneously put into service. From then on, the engine is fed with the new heavy fuel mixture.
When taking out of service the original gasoline carburettor D. also close the gasoline shut-off valve L In this state, the engine operates with absolute regularity with the mixture. heavy fuel. During service, the thermometer needle should be monitored to maintain a constant temperature in the vaporization chamber. The adjustment is made by the button Q-b mounted on the instrument panel and connected to the exhaust gas regulator 21.
In addition to the regularity of operation obtained by using the apparatus described above, the advantage of easy operation and long life of the apparatus should be added. In summary, it can be said that the use of the apparatus described above guarantees a high efficiency by the use of heavy fuel resulting in particular from the reduced price of the latter in comparison with that of gasoline.
