Kreuz spulen oder Tricots auf der Haspelkufe, mit klassischen Küpenfarbstoffen nötige. Pigmentierung fällt bei den erfindungsgemässen Farbstoffen weg;

Process for Making New Water-Soluble Vat Dyes There are numerous vat dyes, e.g. B. from the American patent specifications No. 2 559 596, 2742466, 2691022, 2666767, 2662902, 2 645 646, 2 642 444, 2 642 442, 2 531 465 and 2 531464 or the English Patent Nos. 623 997 and 623 998, which have a haloalkyl group bonded directly to a carbon atom of the Ehromophoren system, in particular a chloromethyl group.
It has now been found that these classic vat dyes, which are directly bound to a carbon atom of a heterocyclic or, in particular, aromatic nucleus of the dye molecule, ie. H.
Haloalkyl group not interrupted by a hetero atom, preferably a low molecular weight haloalkyl group with a maximum of 4 carbon atoms, such as a bromoethyl or, in particular, a chloromethyl group, can be easily converted into at least temporarily water-soluble derivatives if they are mixed with sulfuric acid containing sulfuric anhydride, d. H. with oleum, at room temperature or at most only slightly elevated temperature, e.g. B.
at 10 to 45 at most.
EMI0001.0027
are connected to one another via a double bond. The anthraquinone units here are not only the pure 9 "10-dioxoanthracene rings, but the process according to the invention is characterized in that vat dyes which have a haloalkyl group directly bonded to a carbon atom of a heterocyclic or aromatic ring of the dye molecule,
treated with sulfuric acid containing sulfuric anhydride at room temperature to at most only slightly elevated temperature.
In the present process, chloromethyl derivatives of vat dyes which are produced by chloromethylation and which have at least 5 rings condensed to one another or at least 2 anthraquinone units are advantageously used as starting materials.
Such vat dyes are in particular those of the anthrimide carbazole, anthanthrone, indanthrone; Acedianthron, naphthalenetetracarboxylic acid, perylenetetracarboxylic acid anilide, dibenzanthrone, isodibenzanthrone, flavanthrone, pyranthrone and dibenzpyrenquinone series,
and bisanthraquinone derivatives, the two anthraquinone units of which are directly or z.
B. via an imidazole, thiazole, oxazole, oxdiazole, triazine or a -CO-R-CO bridge (where R is a direct bond, an alkylene or an arylene group) or, as in the compounds, also thiophanthrone radicals and the like, as well as to understand the 9,10-dioxoanthracene rings, which condensed a single one,
have carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring and which give anthrachinone vat dyes. Optionally, the vat dyes mentioned can also include hydrophilic groups, such as. B. sulfuric acid groups.
The inventive reaction of chloralkylated vat dyes with oleum is expediently carried out at room temperature. 1 to 30% oleum can be used.
The implementation is advantageously carried out in such a way that the starting materials are dissolved in oleum at room temperature. After the sulfation is complete, the solution is poured onto ice and the sulfuric acid half-esters formed are neutralized, ie. H. converted into salts (preferably with alkali metal hydroxides) and isolated.
Compared to the classic vat dyes, the vat dyes according to the invention, which contain at least one hydrophilic group, have the advantage of a better leveling and dyeing capacity; In the apparatus dyeing, even if foam formation occurs, they do not give off any discoloration due to the excretion of reoxidized dye, and they are used in the dyeing of wound packages, e.g. B.
Cross bobbins or tricots on the reel skid, with classic vat dyes necessary. There is no pigmentation with the dyes according to the invention;
they can also be used in the form of solutions in the rapidly running padding processes and do not need a finely disperse commercial form or a special dough shape, so that the associated disadvantages (instability of the dough, dust and the need for one or more operations to produce finely dispersed powders) disappear.
Finally, they can usually be very easily removed, often at room temperature and, if necessary, with mild reducing agents,

and gives gray-blue solutions in water. Dyeing method A 2.5 parts of dye are dissolved in 500 parts of water at 60.degree.
The dissolved dye is vat in a dyebath containing 20 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution and 12 parts of sodium hydrosulfite. They have very good solubility in the vat and, especially on regenerated cellulose, strong and very level colorations are obtained which have the same shade as the corresponding cotton colorations.
The colorations obtained with the at least 5 rings condensed to one another or dyes containing at least 2 anthraquinone units according to the invention are also fast to dry cleaning and fast to migration. The dyed fabrics can therefore be coated with synthetic resins, for example with polyvinyl chloride, without the dye migrating into the plastic, which is particularly important in the manufacture of synthetic leather.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. The ratio between a part by weight and part by volume is the same as that between grams and milliliters.
Example 1 5 parts of bischloromethyl-dibenzanthrone are dissolved in 80 parts of 10% oleum and stirred at 20 to 30 for 1 hour. It is then carefully poured onto about 1000 parts of ice and the precipitated product is isolated by filtration. The filter cake obtained is suspended in 1500 parts of water at 40 to 50 and exactly neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution. After 150 parts of sodium chloride have been added, the product is filtered off and the isolated product is dried at 90 to 100 under vacuum.
The new vat dye obtained in this way probably corresponds to the formula 3500 parts of water. 100 parts of well-wetted cotton are put into this dyebath at 60 ° C. and dyeing is carried out for 10 minutes at this temperature with the addition of 60 parts of sodium chloride.
