La fig. 1 en est une vue en élévation de profil, les essieux étant dans la position usuelle; la fig. 2 en est une vue en élévation de profil, les essieux étant rapprochés l'un de l'autre ; la fig. 3 est une vue en plan montrant les deux trains de roues de la remorque telle que représentée sur la fig. 1 ;
Trailer Two-axle trailers are difficult to maneuver in reverse because the two axles do not follow the same path, since the axle attached to the towing vehicle is: swiveling and the other .axle is fixed.
With the aim of remedying this drawback, the present invention relates to a trailer having two axles, one of them being pivoting and intended to be hitched to a towing vehicle,
charac terized by the fact that at least one of said axles is capable of being displaced longitudinally with respect to the axis of the trailer in order to be placed close to the other axle, this displacement simultaneously ensuring the axle lock, pivoting so that two axles are linked:
are parallel to each other.
The attached drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view thereof, the axles being in the usual position; fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof, the axles being brought together; fig. 3 is a plan view showing the two sets of wheels of the trailer as shown in FIG. 1;
fig. 4 is a plan view showing the two sets of wheels of the trailer as shown in FIG. 2; hg. 5 is an enlarged section along I-I of FIG. 1.
The trailer shown comprises a frame 1 in profiled irons on which is placed a bridge 2. The frame 1 rests on two axles 3 and 4 carrying wheels 5.
The front axle 3 is fixed, by means of leaf springs 6, on a frame 7 forming the front axle of the trailer, said frame 7 being rotatably mounted on the frame 1 by means of 'a pivot 8.
The frame 7 is formed by two side members 9 connected by spacers 10 and carries a drawbar 11: capable of pivoting vertically and the front end of which is intended to be coupled to a tractor vehicle, not shown.
Under the cheeks for fixing idu drawbar 11 on the frame 7, are welded two gutters 12 in which the arms of the drawbar 11 are capable of being engaged,
said gutters 12 being intended to limit the vertical displacement of the drawbar 11.
The rear axle 4 is fixed, also by means of leaf springs 6, on a frame 13 forming the rear axle of the trailer, said frame being constituted by two side members 14 interconnected by two spacers 15.
Each spar 14 carries, fixed by means of screws not shown, an L-shaped iron 16, the two irons 16 forming a slideway through which 13 is slidably engaged on the wings 17 of the rear diapers 18 in U shape of frame 1.
On the front spacer 15 of the, a> xmature 13 is fixed, between two cheeks 19, the cylinder 20 of a double-acting hydraulic cylinder comprising a piston 21 whose rod 22 carries, at its free end, a stop 23 fixed on a spacer not shown,
connecting the rear ends of the side members 18 of the frame 1.
The hydraulic cylinder is controlled by a pump, not shown, actuated by the engine of the towing vehicle, a distributor allowing the cylinder to act in one direction or the other; the user can thus control the movements of the véxin without q ittering the cab of his vehicle.
u # i The trailer shown is used as follows When the driver of the towing vehicle wants to perform a maneuver in reverse,
it activates the pump so that the cylinder 20 of the hydraulic cylinder moves in the direction of arrow 24.
While moving, the cylinder 2: 0 of the hydraulic cylinder drives the rear frame 13 which runs smoothly on the rear side members 18 of the frame 1 until the front spacer 15 of said frame comes up against the side members 9 of the frame. 'frame
front 7 which, therefore, can no longer pivot and is blocked with its axle 3 parallel to the axle 4 of the rear axle. It should be noted that if the front axle is turned slightly during the maneuver, it is automatically returned to the correct position by the rear axle.
When the two axles are brought closer to each other, they are maintained in this position by the hydraulic cylinder and the user can carry out his operation in the same way as if it were a trailer. only one axle.
Indeed, the first axle 4 being brought closer to the point of application of the center of gravity of the trailer, the major part of the load is carried by said axle 4 and the front axle 3 is therefore located. : fully or totally unloaded, depending on the load distribution on deck 2 of the trailer.
Thus, during maneuvering, the wheels of the front axle 3 skid slightly on the ground, without this friction being able to damage their tires.
If the front axle 3 is completely unloaded, it is possible that the trailer tends to tilt towards the rear; at this time, the arms of the drawbar 11 are supported in the gutters 12 and limit this tilting, the coupling device in which the front end of the drawbar 11 is engaged being,
on conventional tractor vehicles, sufficiently resistant to absorb such a force.
When the maneuver is finished, the driver of the towing vehicle actuates the pump so that the cylinder 20 of the hydraulic jack moves in the opposite direction of the arrow 24, causing the rear armature 13 in its course. At the end of the race,
the cylinder 20 comes into contact with the stop 23 and takes. lean against it. The user then stops the circulation of the fluid in the jack which keeps the rear armature fixed 13.
Since the fluid contained in the cylinder is incompressible, the rear frame 13 cannot move when the trailer is in use.
It is planned to replace the hydraulic cylinder by a mechanical control.
It is also intended to construct different types of trailers having the same characteristics as the described trailer.
In the case of a very long trailer, provision is made to also make the front axle movable longitudinally on the chassis.
