Container equipped with jacks
Swiss patent No. 337445 has already described a container comprising devices which are integral with it and which are intended to allow its installation on a platform or in a vehicle without having to use external lifting or handling devices, or to extract the container from a vehicle or from a platform under the same conditions.
These devices consist of mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic jacks, mounted in the side walls of the container, and selectively actuated by a control system also embedded in the wall of the container.
A container comprising such a system of jacks can in principle be used with trucks or platforms whose width does not appreciably exceed that of the container, since this truck or this platform must come to be housed between the jacks and under the container when the jacks are deployed.
A truck must therefore perform fairly delicate maneuvers to engage from the rear between the rods of the jacks.
The present invention relates to a container equipped with substantially vertical jacks, mounted on its side walls and which can be selectively actuated by a control device. I1 is characterized in that the jacks are carried by arms pivoting about vertical axes mounted on the side walls of the container.
Thus, the spacing between the jacks can be made arbitrary between the width of the container, that is to say the arms being folded against the container and the width of the container increased by twice the length of the arms when they are deployed at 900 on each side of the container.
This difference in width makes it possible both to place the container on a platform that is wider than itself or to facilitate the maneuvers of a truck engaging from the rear between the deployed jacks.
The actuators are actuated as in the case of the patent cited above by means of a mechanism comprising ducts or mechanical transmissions embedded in the walls of the container extending along the walls.
In a particular embodiment of the container, the maneuvering of the arms can be done either by hand, or even mechanically using an actuating device which can be actuated by a mechanism, actuating the jacks.
Still in a particular embodiment of the container, it is possible to have at the lower end of the jacks track bases intended to facilitate the movement or handling of the container resting on these jacks.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the container which is the subject of the invention and a variant.
Figs. 1 and 2 show, in perspective, said embodiment of the container, the arms being deployed in FIG. 1 and folded over in FIG. 2.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of one end of the container.
Fig. 4 is a partial sectional view through
IV-IV of fig. 3.
In the drawing, the container has been designated by the general reference 1 and by the reference 2 each of the four jacks controlled selectively from a control unit designated by the general reference 3.
The substantially vertical jacks 2 are carried by arms 5 pivoting about vertical axes 6 placed against the wall of the container. By this assembly, the jacks 2 can either be folded against the walls 4 of the container, for example in a housing 7 from which they emerge only slightly (FIG. 2), or deployed as shown in FIG. 1 where the arms have rotated 900 relative to the wall 4. It is noted that, in the latter case, the distance between the feet 8 of the jacks is equal to the width of the container 1 increased by twice the length of the arms 5.
It is thus possible to place on the platform of a truck having a width L, a container having a width substantially equal to L, thanks to the gain in width provided by the deployment of the arms, which gain also allows a more stable seat of the container than a larger space for the maneuver of the truck coming to engage under the container to load it.
There is shown at 9 at the base of the jacks, track bases intended to facilitate the maneuvers and handling of the container when the latter is isolated.
In the variant shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the jacks 2 are carried by arms 5a and 5b pivoting about the vertical axes 6 placed against the wall 4 of the container.
By this assembly, the jacks 2 can be, as before, either folded against the walls 4 of the container, for example in a housing 7 from which they do not emerge, or deployed when the arms have pivoted 900 relative to the wall 4.
At least one upper arm and one lower arm are provided. These arms are articulated around multi-leaf hinges 10 in order to reduce shear forces.
The upper arm 5a ends with an annular part 11 forming a stop, against which the upper end 12 of the cylinder 2 rests, held in place by a nut screwed onto a threaded rod 13 integral with the cylinder.
The lower arm 5b also ends with an annular part 14 with a larger opening through which passes the lower body 15 of the jack. This has a shoulder 16. A lock nut 17 firmly secures the body 15 with the arm 14.
As explained above, the arms can occupy a folded position in the housing 7 or an unfolded position 900 from the previous one. In each of these positions, the lower arm 5b is locked. For this purpose, the arm 5b is integral with a locking finger 18 mounted between two locking guides 19 integral with the container. The finger 18 and the guides 19 have openings of non-circular cross-section facing each other and in which a locking pin 20 of corresponding cross-section is housed.
The jacks 2 are preferably of the pneumatic or hydraulic type. The control fluid circulates in rigid pipes 21 connected, on the one hand, to the ends of the cylinder 2 and, on the other hand, to the movable part of rotary joints 22 arranged coaxially with the pivot axes 6 of the arms 5a and 5b.
