The present invention relates to an alloy which can be cast by means of precision casting techniques and is resistant to oxidation when exposed to air at temperatures between 925 and 1040 C and has a ductility of at least 3 and has the ability to withstand tensions of more than 1050 kg / cm2 at temperatures of 925 to 1040 C for periods of <B> 100 </B> to 500 hours, and a method for producing the same.
There is no doubt that there is a very great need for an alloy that can be cast into castings that can then be used at temperatures of 925 to 980 C and more. Such alloys can be used with advantage for turbine blades of jet engines and gas turbines.
Alloys that are able to withstand temperatures from 980 to 1040 C are required in devices which are used to carry out creep tests and thanks to which one can determine the properties of other known high temperature alloys that are produced at the same time can.
Such alloys should, however, meet the following requirements, namely 1. The alloys should be able to be cast using precision casting methods to form flawless castings for which small tolerance values can be guaranteed; 2. The alloys should be resistant to oxidation if they are exposed to the action of air at elevated temperatures of up to 980 C; 3.
The alloys should have fracture strength under stress and also have a ductility of at least 3%, while at the same time they should be able to withstand stresses of significantly more than 1050 kg / cm2 at temperatures of 980 C for 100 to 500 hours; 4. At room temperature, the alloys should not only have good deformation resistance and ductility but also good tensile strength; and 5. The alloys should have a high modulus of elasticity within a wide temperature range.
Other desirable properties for such alloys will be mentioned below.
The alloy according to the invention is characterized in that it contains 9 to 11% by weight cobalt, 9 to 15% by weight chromium, 6 to 10% by weight tungsten, 3.5 to 5% by weight titanium, 3 to 5% by weight aluminum, 0.04 to 0, 2% by weight carbon, 0.02 to 0.2% by weight boron, 0.01 to 0.2% by weight zirconium and not more than 3% by weight of other components, while the remainder consists of nickel.
The invention also relates to a method for the production of this alloy, which is characterized in that in a non-reactive atmosphere or in a vacuum, 9 to 11 wt. Cobalt, 9 to 15 wtA chromium, 6: to 10 wtA tungsten, 3.5 Up to 5% by weight titanium, 3 to 5% by weight aluminum, 0.04 to 0.2% by weight carbon, 0.02 to 0.2% by weight boron, 0.01 to 0.2% by weight zirconium, not more than 3% by weight other components and the remainder nickel melts.
Accordingly, an alloy is created which is suitable for casting castings with a high degree of accuracy, these alloys having such a breaking strength at temperatures of 925 to 1040 C that they can withstand loads of more than 1050 kg / cm2 with an extension of at least able to withstand at least 3% within 100 hours.
The new nickel alloy contains certain amounts of cobalt, chromium, boron and zirconium in addition to certain amounts of titanium, aluminum, tungsten and carbon as hardening components.
For a better understanding of the present invention, reference is made to the following description and to the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 shows a diagram relating to the breaking strength of the alloy according to the invention with increasing stress, FIG. 2 shows a creep strength curve of various NEN alloys according to the invention and FIG Curve on which voltage versus time-temperature parameters are plotted for the alloys according to the invention.
The alloys with the properties listed here were produced by fusing the following components in a vacuum, the parts listed being parts by weight:

<tb> Nickel <SEP> rest <SEP> rest The titanium, aluminum,
Tungsten and the carbon give the above alloys the desired hardness and high strength values at high temperatures. The amounts of tungsten present in the present alloy are particularly important. Tungsten, added in an amount of 6-10%, as a solid solution causes special strength values at high temperatures.
The addition of the listed small amounts of boron and zirconium is advantageous with regard to the good properties of the alloy and, in particular, to give the desired ductility.
The oxygen and nitrogen content of the alloys according to the invention should in each case not be more than 0.01%. The alloys can contain small amounts of iron, usually no more than about 2%. Even small amounts of sulfur and phosphorus of no more than 0.1% each can be present. Manganese and silicon can be present in amounts of up to 0.550. The amount of incidental impurities and of other small additions, such as e.g. molybdenum, vanadium and niobium, should not total more than 3 wt.
The alloys are preferably made by melting in a vacuum at an absolute pressure of 10 microns or less. Particularly good results have been achieved by vacuum casting the melt. The casting of the molten alloy in an inert gas atmosphere, e.g. B. Argon, makes good castings. Melt castings in air in precision casting molds have also shown good results, although there are greater fluctuations in the properties of the alloys.
Thus, in order to achieve the best results, the molten alloy is preferably protected from the action of air during the melting and casting process. The melting process can be carried out in a vacuum induction furnace or in a vacuum light arc melting furnace in which the arc is either consumed or not consumed.
The following examples explain the manufacture of the alloy according to the invention.

At the same time, during this one casting process, various cast pieces are poured, which are to be tested for breaking strength when stretched. In this way you make 9 castings. After cooling, these castings are carefully checked. It is found that they do not have any casting defects and otherwise have a smooth appearance. The alloy samples of this Example 1 are hereinafter referred to as heat number 1755.

These curves clearly show the excellent properties of the alloys according to the invention.
To allow the alloy consumer to determine the stress-to-break ratio as a function of the time-temperature parameter, the curve shown in Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings may be useful. The stresses at the specified loads are plotted on the ordinate, while the values of the following equation are plotted on the abscissa: <I> X = T (25 </I> + log <I> t) X </I> 1 , 8 X 10-3 where T is the temperature in degrees Kelvin logs = logarithm with the base 10 of the time in hours.
The stress rupture times are found at temperatures of 815 to 1095 C with a treatment of 100 hours at points A, while the stress rupture times for each of these temperatures with a treatment of 500 hours are located at points B. It is noteworthy that the different results for five different heat treatments of the alloys according to the invention are in the immediate vicinity of the curve shown in FIG.
The alloys according to the invention can be easily cast in such a way that turbine blades for gas turbines and jet engines, screw bolts for apparatus and jaws operating at high temperatures and other fixing devices which are used in the hot areas of creep rupture strength apparatus can be produced. Precision cast blades were produced on these alloys by casting in an argon atmosphere, with blades of this type having an excellent surface quality.
The previously known alloys, without exception, do not have the common properties common to all the alloys available at temperatures of up to 1040 C.
Constituents from the alloys according to the invention are resistant to the effects of oxidation by the air at temperatures of up to 1095 C, in that practically no oxidation phenomena can be detected. Castings, which are subjected to a tensile strength test under tension for up to 800 hours in air at temperatures of 980 C, show practically no signs of oxidation.
The alloys according to the present invention also have the property of a high modulus of elasticity, which is particularly important for some areas of application, both at room temperature and at temperatures of up to 1095 C. For example, the modulus of elasticity of an alloy at room temperature is on average 2,450,000 kg / cm2 and at a temperature of 870 C <B> 1680 </B> 000 kg / cm2. These values have been determined by dynamic test methods.
As these values show, the decrease in the modulus of elasticity with increasing temperature is relatively small.
