Machine working as a chainsaw in one position and as a saw in another position. Machines are known which alternatively allow them to be used as chainsaws or as circular saws.
These machines, originally designed as wood saws, can be used as chainsaws by substituting the saw blade with a cutting disc. Parting off is thus carried out in poor conditions because the attack of the tool from below the part to to be cut off gives no visibility and does not allow to the worker to control the depth of pass.
The present invention relates to a machine working as a chainsaw in one position and as a saw in another position, characterized in that it comprises means making it possible to modify the line between the work surface and the stem in the high position, in view to allow the cutting of parts of different thicknesses, a pedal for lowering or raising the tool, and means for adjusting the depth of attack of the tool, at- above the work plate and further means for bringing into working position one or the other group of the aforementioned means, depending on whether the machine is used as a chainsaw or as saw.
According to a preferred embodiment, the wise step from the chainsaw position to the saw position, and vice versa, is effected by tilting the frame and rotating about 270 # 1 of the stem carrying the tool.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, an embodiment of the machine which is the subject of the invention. Figures 1 to 4 show schematically the different stages in going from chainsaw use to saw use.
Figs. 5 and 6 are enlarged elevational views showing this machine as a chainsaw and a saw, respectively.
Fig. 7 is a detail view to , scale showing the stem adjustment.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken along the line VIII-VIII of FIG. 7.
Fig. 9 is a large scale to elevational view of the cutting height adjuster. Figs. 10 and 11 are respectively sectional views taken along lines X-X and XI-XI of FIG. 9.
Figs. 12 and 13 are elevation views similar to those of FIGS. 5 and 6, showing the arrangement of the machine used with an combustion engine.
According to fig. 5, the frame of this machine is constituted by a work surface 1 carried by two front legs 2 fitted with shoes 3 and by two legs hind legs 4 provided with clogs 5. The hind legs 4 present, above the work surface 1, <# s of / B> extensions 6 joined in the vicinity of their end, by a spacer serving as a pivot axis to a bracket 7 carrying an engine electric 8 at its rear end and, at its other end,
a hub 9 on which is mounted an abrasive disc 10. This motor 8 drives the hub 9 in rotation to the means of a transmission and a reduction gear housed in the stem 7. A cover 11, fixed to this stem, covers the part upper disc 10 to protect the worker.
The side members 12 of the frame of the machine have a reinforcement on which is articulated a lever 13 with two arms provided at its front end with a pedal 14 and articulated at its posterior end 15 at a vertical connecting rod 16 itself articulated at its upper end at < / B> the stem 7. If the worker presses the pedal 14 in the direction of the arrow 17, the lever 13 and the connecting rod 16 move the disc 10 downwards following arrow 18, while if the worker releases his pressure on pedal 14, the stem 7 returns to its high position, thanks to the action of a tension spring 19 fixed to l 'one of its ends on the lever 13 and at its other end on the machine frame.
It is advantageous to be able to modify the clearance between the work surface 1 and the jib crane in the high position, in particular with a view to cutting parts of different thicknesses.
A this effect, the stem 7 is not mounted directly on the spacer, connecting the extensions 6 near their upper ends. rear legs 4 of the frame, but on a spacer 20 (fig. 8) whose height can be adjusted.
The extensions 6 are made up of square section profiles each provided with a vertical slide 21 arranged so that the two slides face each other and the spacer 20 is extended to </ B> each of its ends by a finger 22 engaged in said profiles through through the slide 21 ; on this finger 22 is mounted, inside the profile 6, a sleeve 23 capable of sliding without play inside the inside of the profile, allowing easy adjustment of the height of the spacer while ensuring its perfect squareness.
The blocking at a chosen level of the bar 20 is obtained thanks to a fitting 24 articulated on each finger 22 on the outside and against the profile 6, and this fitting comprises a certain number of notches 25 capable of catching the rod of a bolt 26 fixed on feet 4.
These notches 25 are shaped so that the fitting 24 can be released by pivoting around the finger 22 in the direction of the arrow 27 (fig. 7) . When the height of the spacer 20, therefore of the stem 7, has been chosen, that is to say when the notch 25 suitable hooks the rod of the bolt 26, it is possible to lock the assembly by tightening a nut 28 on this bolt.
It is essential to be able to adjust the length of the connecting rod 16 controlling, by pedal 14, tilting of the stem 7, according to the height chosen for the articulation axis of this stem ; to this end, the spacer 20 is provided, in the vicinity of its ends, with a tab 29 directed radially towards the rear and integral in rotation with it, carrying at its free end a lateral finger 30 capable of being engaged in one of the holes 31 drilled at different levels of the upper end of the connecting rod 16. It can be advantageous, although it is not essential, that the spacing of the aforementioned holes 31 is the same as that of the notches 25 of the fitting 24.
The work surface 1 is provided in the usual way with rails 32 guiding the bearing of the carriage 33 on which the workpiece is placed to cut off.
We will now describe in detail, with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4, the process of transforming this chainsaw into a saw.
On the chainsaw illustrated to in fig. 1, you y must first remove the carriage 33, the protective cover 11, as well as the abrasive disc 10, then to fold up the pedal 14 so that it does not protrude on the front face of the frame.
The frame is then tilted in the direction of arrow 34, around the two shoes 3 of the front legs 2 until it rests on said shoes 3 and on the face 35 of the work surface 1 (fig. 2).
The nut 28 is then loosened to allow the pivoting of the fitting 24 in the direction of the arrow 27 (fig. 7 and 8); the stem 7 and its cross member 20 are then pushed backwards in the direction of the arrow 36 along the extensions 6 of the legs 4 until the bolt 26 is engaged in the appropriate notch 25 of the said fitting (fig. 3).
The stem 7 is then swung around its spacer 20 of 2701, approximately in the direction of the arrow 37; a circular saw disc 38 is mounted on the hub 9 of the stem and this stem -is then folded down until the saw disc is housed in a protective casing 39 integral with the frame of the machine ; a working plate 40, provided in a conventional manner with a slot for the passage of the saw blade, is mounted on the frame, and the active part of the saw can be protected by a housing 41 articulated on a bracket 42 secured to said work plate (FIG. 4).
The work plate 40 is securely bolted to the frame 1 of the machine, and you can for this effect use the bolt 26 and its nut 28 used to adjust the stem level (fig. 6).
It is advantageous to be able to adjust the depth of the kerf, i.e. the area of the active segment of the blade located above the work table.
A this effect, on one of the cross members 43 of the frame of the machine is fixed, by means of a bolt 44 and a nut 45, a threaded bush 46 engaged with a vertical threaded rod 47 integral at its lower end with a control crank 48 ; on the unthreaded upper end 49 of this rod is mounted freely a sleeve 50 between a shoulder 51 of said rod and a washer 52.
The rotation in one direction or the other of the crank 48 makes it possible to raise or lower the threaded rod 47 in the ring 46 allowing the pivoting of the bracket 7 around its axis 20 and the height adjustment of the active part of the saw blade. Locking at the desired height is obtained by a link 53 articulated at its upper end on the sleeve 50 and having a longitudinal slide 54 within the interior of which is engaged a bolt 55 integral with the threaded ring 46 ; a nut 56, engaged on this bolt 55 tightens the connecting rod 53 on the ring 46 and prevents inadvertent rotation of the threaded rod 47 controlling the adjustment of the cutting height.
Other embodiments are possible ; it is thus in particular that instead of an electric motor, one could easily adapt a to combustion engine. In this case, it is y necessary to take special care to the insulation of the motor to prevent the vibrations, inherent in the to </ B> explosion, are transmitted to the machine.
A this effect the motor can be fixed in door to false to the end of an articulated base to its other end on the front legs of the machine frame, and supported by at least one calibrated spring working at the traction.
The two longitudinal sides 57 of the base have their ends 58, opposite to the motor, angled downwards and capable of catching on either of the two pairs of toes 59 and 60 arranged near the lower part of the front feet 2.
When the machine is used as a cutting section (fig. 12) the base 57 carrying to its rear end the motor 61 is articulated on the pair lower fingers 59 and supported by two tension springs 62 fixed at their lower end on one of the sides 57 in the vicinity of the engine and hooked at their upper end on a fitting 63 integral with each of the rear legs 4 of the frame.
The pulley carrier shaft 64, located on the stem 7 at the end opposite the hub 9, comprises to </ B> each of its ends a set of trapezoidal pulleys corresponding to the saw position and to the saw position, and the diameters of these pulleys may be different so to obtain suitable rotation speeds for the tool.
The transmission between the motor and the pulley-holder shaft is effected in the usual way by a trapezoidal belt 65.
When the worker presses the pedal 14 to lower the abrasive disc 10, the bracket 7 tilts in the direction of the arrow 18, the belt 65 pulls the motor upwards and its base, aided by the action of the springs 62, pivots in the direction of the arrow 66 around his articulation 59.
To change from the saw position to the saw position illustrated to in fig. 13, you must first release the base carrying the motor. A to do this, the worker removes the belt 65, unhooks the springs 62 of the fittings 63, lifts the end 58 of the lanyards 57 to release them from the fingers 59 and remove the base from the machine frame.
The frame is then tilted and its bracket brought into the saw position as described above. The worker then engages the plinth in the frame and places the ends 58 of the side members 57 on the pair of fingers 60 of the feet 2 ; it then hooks the upper end of the springs 62 to a suitable fitting 67 integral with the extensions 6 of the feet 4, then place the belt 65 on the motor shaft and on the pulley-bearing shaft ; the machine is thus ready to be used as a saw.
