MACHINE FORESTIERE TRANSPORTABLE POUr.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Cet
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

TRANSPORTABLE FORESTRY MACHINE FOR. WOOD SAWING
The present invention relates to improvements made to the forest machine for sawing boia, described and illustrated in Belgian patent N 465,050 of May 7, 1946.
The invention according to said patent relates to a steel machine capable of operating on the sites of felling trees and specially combined in order to satisfy, thanks to very simple adaptations, to multiple uses, such as, on the one hand , sawing with movement of the machine, either for cross sawing or cutting, or for sawing in length, and, on the other hand, sawing operating as a stationary machine.
In said patent, the motor driving the saw, the movement tranaforuiation mechanism and the support device, as well as possibly for guiding the saw, are carried by a single frame mounted on wheels. This frame can be supported, while remaining possibly capable of transverse or longitudinal displacement, on the one hand by means of road wheels, on the other hand.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
by means of rollers, or finally by means of claws which can be raised.
The machine, as produced according to said patent, is
EMI2.1
intended for the ection-d-'3 a soul âspTacéē¯ in back and forth.
The present invention relates to certain improvements made to the production of said machine, in order to adapt it for the control of a case saw, the latter advantageously replacing the reciprocating saw with a blade and giving an output. superior especially for sawing light wood, very abundant in forestry operations in northern regions.
The advantages of the chain saw, however, do not extend to sawing the hardwoods which abound in tropical forests, because the teeth of the said saws become dull quickly on these hardwoods, which obliges the user to be too frequented. and laborious resharpening of said saws.
The object of the present invention is to make certain modifications to the forest sawing machine according to said patent R0 465.050, with a view to adapting it, with all its advantages, to sawing by cone for light wood.
According to the present invention, the sawing machine is provided with a chain saw where the drive sprockets are fixed to the transmission shaft of the machine, while the guide blade of the chain is fixed to the support. pivoting concentrically around the axis of the transmission shaft and provided for angular displacement of the saw, means for adjusting the tension of the saw chain being provided at said chain guide blade .
An example of adaptation of a chain saw to the sawing machine according to the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the sawing machine provided with a chain saw.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the chain saw fitted with its support and tension members.
Fig. 3 is an axial sectional view of a part of the transmission of the sawing machine provided with the means for driving and supporting the chain saw.
Fig. 4 shows in axial section the protective and securing casing of the chain saw.
For clarity of description, the references used in the aforementioned Principal Patent have been retained to denote the same elements of the machine modified according to the present invention.
As shown in the drawings, the chain saw 34, mounted laterally on the frame 20 of the machine, is driven by a pinion 35 wedged on one end of the transmission shaft 24 of the machine (Fig. 3). Said shaft 24 is controlled by motor shaft.-1 and rotates in hub 36, with the interposition of bearings 37. This hub is partially threaded at its periphery and is supported and fixed by one of its ends in an opening formed in the upright 20b of the frame 20 of the machine, while its other end slides in an opening 38 formed in the upright 20 of said frame.
On the threaded part of the hub 36 is engaged a nut 10, provided with radial holes 10a, designed to receive the end of a clamping lever 9. On the conical end 36b of the hub 36, a support collar 39 pivots which can be blocked in any desired angular position around the hub 36, by means of the nut 10 which, during its screwing, using the lever 9, acts on the wall of the upright 20c to block the collar 39 between the cone 36 and a disc 40 integral with the wall 20c.
A stirrup 41, in the shape of a U (Fig. 2) made for example of steel tube, carries between the ends of its branches, a plate 42 constituting a guide blade for the chain 34. This
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
stirrup is supported by collar 39 and is guided in channels 43, semi-cylindrical and parallel, arranged symmetrically in the lateral edges of said collar. A cover 44 (fig. 4) having in its edges semi-cylindrical channels 43b, corresponding to the channels 43, maintains said stirrup on the collar 39 by means of bolts engaged in the openings 45 ..
The plate 4e has towards its end integral with the branches of the caliper 41, an offset 46 which allows said plate to extend in the median plane of the teeth of the pinion 35, so as to guide the links of the chain. acie 34, along the outer boros of said plate 42. The latter also carries at its end a pulley 47, for returning the chain 34, which is mounted on a bearing. A hard rubber ring 48, interposed between this bearing and the axle 49 of the pulley, forms a damper to limit any abnormal force which could be exerted during sawing on the bearing of said pulley 47.
A longitudinal buttonhole 50, formed in the guide plate 42, cooperates with a bolt 51, provided on a lateral extension 5 of the collar 39, to adjust the tension of the saw chain 34. This adjustment is carried out by acting in the direction longitudinal on the caliper 41, the branches of which slide in the channels 43 and 43b and, when the clamping of the ball is obtained, the bolt 51 is aired with blocking of the plate 42, between the extension 52 and the cover 44. This cover, together with the collar 39 and its lateral extension 52, forms a protective casing for the driving mechanism of the saw.
A lever 54 is provided to control the angular movements of the chain saw around the axis 24. This lever is pivoted at 55, on the cover 44, while an eye b6, formed at one of its ends, moves in front of an arched buttonhole 57 and can be locked at a determined point of this buttonhole using a bolt, in order to give said lever 54 a position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
desired angular position, relative to the longitudinal axis of the saw.
The handling of the sawing machine, according to the invention, provided with the chain steel, is substantially the same as that of the macnine which is the subject of the main patent? 465.U50, both for cutting trees and for length sawing.
The simplification of the transmission system established on the machine according to the invention, for the control of the cnc saw, has made it possible to reduce the height of the transmission shaft 24 relative to the base of the frame by lowering the center. of gravity of the machine, which gives the latter greater stability as the chain sawing force is always directed in the same direction. This increased stability allows detonation, if necessary, a maximum approach to the wheels
13, when the machine, guided by the roller disc 11, rolls on the log for length sawing.
On the other hand, the particular system of assembly of the chain steel and adjustment of the tension of the latter, allows with a set of two guide blades 42 and four chains of saws of different lengths, to obtain four heights of sawing, even has the ground.
To facilitate the rolling of the machine on the log and the penetration of the saw into the latter, without having to give a determined rear slope to said log, the present invention also provides a simple and practical device for controlling the movement of the log. machine along the log.
@ this effect, the handle 3b which pivots at the end of the drawbar 3, carries at one of its ends a pinion which meshes with a toothed wheel provided laterally to a drum 58 pivoting on the drawbar 3. On this drum is wound a steel cable 60 guided on return pulleys 61 and 62 and hooked on to another
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
part to an anchoring fitting 63 attached to the end of the saw log, on which the machine rolls.
The sawing operation is carried out as follows: The machine being placed and blocked by the claws 7, on the log, the motor is started and the saw is pressed on the log, at the using the lever 54, to penetrate the wood by describing an angular movement along the arc vw.
When the saw reaches the vertical position, the collar 39, supporting the saw, is locked in this position by the latch 10, aiae the lever 9. The roller disc 11 is lowered on the other hand and engaged in the line. saw to be locked in this position using the handwheel 16, while the clips 7 are raised to allow the machine to move on its rollers 11 and 13. The sawing operation then continues by printing to the handle 3b a rotational movement which has the effect of gradually winding the cable 60, anchored at 63, on the drum 58, by producing a thrust force on the machine with longitudinal displacement of the latter.
When the roller 13, in its movement, arrives towards the end of the log, the machine is again blocked on its claws 7 and the collar 39 is released, with the help of the lever 9, to allow the saw perform an angular movement w - x, under the control of lever 54 and finish sawing the log.
