Method for foaming plastic in the cavity of an elongated
Hollow body, in particular Profilliohlkörpers and produced by the method
Component
The present invention relates to a new, particularly simple method for foaming plastic in the cavity of an elongated hollow body, in particular profiled hollow body, according to which expandable plastic granulate is loosely filled into the hollow body and at least one injection tube is inserted into the granulate and expelling steam is pulled back again so that the plastic in the hollow body is continuously foamed and fills it.
Foam polystyrene is advantageously used as the plastic for foaming.
Appropriately, loosened Velcro material can be sprayed into the hollow body before the introduction of the steam injection tube, so that when the plastic is subsequently foamed, it binds to the inner wall of the hollow body.
So that the walls of the hollow body are not bulged or deformed by the internal pressure occurring in the hollow body when foaming the plastic, the hollow body is during! of the foaming expediently in a form one sets.
The invention also relates to a component produced by the method according to the invention from an elongated hollow body, in particular hollow profiled body, foamed with plastic.
The inventive method is explained below with reference to the drawing, for example, in which
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section through an elongated hollow body filled with granules, in which an injection tube is inserted.
2 is a longitudinal section offset by 900 through the hollow body while the plastic is being foamed, and FIG
3 is a cross section through a component consisting of a hollow body foamed with plastic.
In Fig. 1 and 2, an elongated hollow body 1 is shown, the wall z. B. consists of a hard plastic or metal and z. B. forms a tubular profile hollow body. In this hollow body 1, an expandable plastic granulate 2, for. B. made of expanded polystyrene, and the hollow body 1 is inserted into a form 3, as indicated in FIG. The side walls of the hollow body 1 are supported by this shape 3. Furthermore, the left end face of the hollow body 1 is closed. In the hollow body 1 prepared in this way, an injection tube 4, which has outlet openings 5 at the left end, is inserted into the granulate 2 from the right, as can be seen from FIG. 1.
Steam is then blown through the openings 5 into the granulate 2 through this tube 4, which steam penetrates the granulate 2 and flows back through it to the right and leaves the hollow body 1 again on the right-hand side. As it exits, this steam causes the nearby granules to foam into a foam. The injection tube 4 is withdrawn allinählich to the right from the hollow body 1 during the formation of the foam, as is indicated in FIG. The finished foam 6 is progressively formed on the left of the pipe end, while granules 2 are still present on the right-hand side, which, when the pipe 4 is withdrawn further, is also foamed using steam.
When the plastic is foamed, the mold 3 prevents the walls of the hollow body 1 from bulging or deforming as a result of the internal pressure that occurs.
Before the introduction of the granulate and the injection tube 4, dissolved adhesive can be sprayed onto the inner wall of the hollow body 1 by means of another introduction member. During the subsequent foaming, this causes the foam 6 to bond to the inside of the hollow body 1.
The inside of the hollow body 1 can also be provided with ribs in order to achieve better adhesion of the foam.
In the case of longer hollow bodies 1, instead of one injection tube 4, two can be used, which are inserted from both ends of the hollow body to approximately the center thereof and then withdrawn while ejecting steam, whereby the plastic is foamed in the manner described.
In Fig. 3, a component produced according to the described method from a profile hollow body 1 filled with foam 6 is shown in cross section. This component is provided on the one hand with a groove 7, in which a rib 8 of an adjacent same component engages. The component produced in this way can, for. B. be used for garage doors and many other purposes. It has a low specific weight, is heat-insulating and torsion-resistant.
