Process for producing a connection between thermoplastic plastic pipes
The invention relates to a method for producing a connection between thermoplastic pipes using a metallic sleeve which surrounds the pipe ends and is provided with indentations on the inside and has an annular inner projection located in its center.
In the known connections of pipe ends and sleeves, the latter are screwed onto the pipe ends using force or screwed on with a thread. This can easily damage the parts to be connected, apart from the fact that no really intimate connection is achieved between these parts.
The method according to the invention avoids the shortcomings of the known pipe connections in that the sleeve is brought to a temperature 10 - 150 C above the melting temperature of the pipe material and the ends of the two pipes to be connected are then preferably simultaneously inserted into the heated sleeve up to the ring-shaped one Projection are pushed in, whereby the plastic material melting on the surface of the inserted pipe ends precipitates the depressions on the inside of the sleeve and hardens after a possible subsequent sudden cooling. The method according to the invention achieves a particularly intimate connection between the plastic material of the pipe ends and the metallic sleeve. A separation of these parts is only possible by force.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the pipe ends are beveled on the inside and outside before the connection is made. This on the one hand avoids compression of the pipe ends when they strike the annular projection of the sleeve, and on the other hand facilitates the insertion of the pipe ends into the sleeve.
The invention is illustrated schematically in the drawing using an exemplary embodiment.
As can be seen therefrom, the pipe connection according to the invention consists of a metallic sleeve 1 and two pipes 2 made of thermoplastic material, the ends of which can be pushed into this sleeve. The sleeve 1 has an annular projection 3 which serves as a stop for the ends of the tubes 2. In order to facilitate the insertion of the pipe ends into the sleeve 1, the pipe ends are provided with a beveled edge 5. So that the pipe ends are not compressed when they strike the projection 3, an inner, beveled edge 4 is also provided at each pipe end.
When assembling the pipe connection according to the inventive method, the metallic sleeve 1 is first brought to a temperature 10-150 ° C above the melting temperature of the pipe material and then the pipe ends are pushed into the heated sleeve, preferably at the same time. The surface of the inserted pipe ends comes into contact with the inner surface of the heated sleeve 1, which is provided with annular grooves, so that the plastic material of the pipe ends melts to a certain depth and the molten material fills the cavities of the grooves 6 of the sleeve 1. These grooves 6 advantageously have a sawtooth-shaped cross section, as a result of which the hardened plastic material of the pipe ends that sits in them prevents them from being pulled out of the sleeve 1.
In order to ensure that the plastic material of the pipe ends only melts to a thickness corresponding to the depth of the groove 6 and not more, the sleeve 1 is suddenly cooled after the pipe ends have been pushed in, e.g. B. by spraying with water, be appropriate. The cooling of the metallic sleeve 1 not only prevents deformation of the pipe ends, but also accelerates the work process.
