Apparatus for the controllable addition of one medium to a second
The present invention relates to an apparatus for controllable admixing of one medium to a second, characterized by a channel which forms a flow path for the second medium of a predetermined flow direction, means for throttling the flow in this channel in such a way that a pressure difference arises between a higher pressure on the inflow side and a lower pressure on the outflow side, said throttle means being designed so that the flow rate is substantially proportional to the pressure difference within a predetermined range; through a flexible container for the first medium;
Means that allow the higher pressure to act on the outside of the flexible container; a connection between the inside of the flexible container with the channel in the region of lower pressure, this connection being designed such that the first medium flowing through it has a laminar flow in a predetermined pressure difference region.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing. Show it:
1 shows a vertical section through the apparatus,
FIG. 2 shows a part of FIG. 1 on a larger scale,
Fig. 3 shows a part of Fig. 2, with displaced organs,
FIG. 4 shows a part of FIG. 1 on a larger scale, and FIG
5 shows, on a smaller scale, an external view of the apparatus.
The apparatus shown can serve, for example, to add small amounts of a fluoride solution to a water stream. These quantities must be measured precisely, since excessively high concentrations of fluorides can have very harmful effects.
The apparatus shown has a body 10 with a central bore 12. The ends 14 and 16 of this bore 12 are provided with an Innenge thread, so that the end 14 can be connected to a supply line and the end 16 to a pure drain line for water. In the following, the bore 12 is also referred to as the main flow path and the medium flowing therein as the primary medium.
A filter (not shown) can be provided in front of the end 14 which prevents larger particles from penetrating into the bore 12.
After the end 14, a throttle 18 is provided in the bore 12. The pressure in the water upstream of this throttle 18 is designated P1 and the pressure downstream of this restrictor 18 is designated P2. The terms higher pressure (P1) or lower pressure (P2) are also used below.
In Pig. 4 shows the throttle 18 on a larger scale. This throttle 18 allows a flow that is proportional to the pressure P1. The throttle 18 consists of a ring made of stretchable material, for. B. made of rubber and d has a central opening 19.
The bore 12 is provided with a shoulder surface which serves as a stop for the throttle 18, which therefore cannot be adjusted in the direction of flow. The throttle 18 is dimensioned such that the pressure of the water expands it such that the opening 19 has a larger cross section. When the opening 19 is appropriately dimensioned, the flow rate is proportional to the pressure loss (P1-P2).
The passage formed by the throttle 18 has a generally conical wall, i.e. This means that the opening 19 on the side of the throttle 18 facing the end 14 is larger than that on the side facing the end 16. If the side facing the end 14 yields under the water pressure, it can be bent in such a way that the opening 19 is widened (FIG. 4). In certain cases, the side facing the end 14 can, instead of being flat, also run partially conical itself.
A liquid-tight cylindrical housing 20 is provided under the body 10, in which a flexible, liquid-tight pocket 22 is arranged. This pocket 22, which contains the secondary medium, is fastened to the body 10 by means of a holder 24. This holder 24 has a central connecting piece 27 with an internal thread, thanks to which it is fastened to a corresponding projection 26 of the body 10 which is provided with an external thread. The pocket 22 and the housing 20 are dimensioned such that there is a gap 28 between their walls. In this intermediate space 28, the air can be drawn off via an opening which is closed by means of a screw 21.
The body 10 is formed by a relatively thick, circular disc with the bore 12 extending diametrically. The housing 20 is screwed onto this body 10. If the device is used as a so-called
Fluorinator is used for a residential house, it is expedient that the housing 20 is mounted easily removable so that the bag 22 can be replaced quickly and easily. Where the thread could be damaged, the housing can be attached using other fastening devices known per se (flanges and bolts, bayonet locks, etc.).
A bore 30 connects the inlet side of the bore 12 with the intermediate space 28. To increase the seal between the housing 20 and the body 10, a sealing washer can be inserted between these organs.
Means are also provided to connect the pocket 22 to the outlet side of the bore 12.
The projection 26 has a central bore 34 which extends as far as the bore 12. The upper part 35 of this bore 34 runs conically towards the bore 12. The wall of the bore 34 can be produced, for example, as a surface of revolution. In this bore 34 an insert 36 with a corresponding jacket surface is arranged. At its lower edge, the insert 36 is provided with a flange 38 which strikes the lower edge of the projection 26 (FIG. 2). When this flange 38 strikes this edge, the conical part of the insert 36 rests on the part 35, but the tip of this insert partially extends into the bore 12.
The conical part of the insert 36 is provided with an axial bore 39 which connects the bore 12 with a cylindrical chamber 40, which chamber 40 is delimited by the inner cylindrical wall 42 and the upper inner wall 41 of the insert. Furthermore, at least one open helical groove 44 is provided in the wall d 42, which extends from bottom to top. The cross section of this groove 44 is, as explained below, precisely dimensioned. A block 46 is located in the chamber 40 which fits snugly inside. The diameter of this block 46 is dimensioned such that no liquid can flow between its outer surface and the wall 42, except via the groove 44.
On its upper side, the block 46 is provided with spacers 48 so that it is kept at a distance from the wall d 41. The liquid passing through the bore 39 into the chamber 40 can thus flow into the groove 44.
The holder 24 has a projection 52 within the connecting piece 27 which, when the holder 24 is screwed on, is in contact with the lower side of the block 46 and moves it upward such that the spacers 48 are also in contact with the wall 41. A sealing washer 54 is inserted between the holder 24 and the insert 34.
Bores 56 connect the interior of the pocket 22 with the interior of the connecting piece 27, the mouths of these bores 56 not being covered by the sealing washer 54 (FIG. 2).
A membrane 58 extends conically between tween the sealing washer 54 and d the projection 52, against which it is supported under relatively light bias. This preload is dimensioned in such a way that it is lifted off by a slight pressure difference between its lower and upper side. The preload, on the other hand, is large enough to ensure a seal if there is no pressure difference. In this case, no liquid can flow from top to bottom.
This membrane 58 thus corresponds to a one-way valve. The membrane 58 and the sealing washer 54 are expediently made of one piece and consist, for. B. cast or injection molded plastic.
The throttle 18 and the groove 44 can be viewed as parallel flow resistances that are effective via the pressure difference (Pr-P2). An amount of liquid proportional to the values of P1 can be transferred from the pocket 22 into the flow through the bore 12 via the passage 44.
Although this would always be theoretically possible, in practice it is advisable to dimension the throttle 18 and the groove 44 such that a constant proportionality is achieved over the entire pressure range by limiting the maximum value of P1. For this purpose, a second throttle 29 is mounted in series with the throttle 18 and the groove 44.
The throttle 29 mounted in the bore 12 in front of the throttle 18 has a bore of constant cross section. This throttle 29 is particularly useful when treating non-compressible liquids. In such cases, at high pressures P1, the pressure loss is greater.
The throttle 29 therefore serves as a limiter for the level of the pressure P. Of course, the pressure P1 will increase if the pressure upstream of the throttle 29 also increases. However, if the primary liquid z. B. is water, and when the supply is connected to a public supply line, the maximum pressure is generally known. The throttle 29 can thus be dimensioned in such a way that the pressure P1 remains up to the maximum pressure in the supply line in the pressure interval for which proportional admixing is made possible. Instead of a throttle 29, a throttle of a different type could also be provided.
The flow through the groove 44 remains proportional to the pressure difference as long as the flow remains laminar. The larger the diameter, the greater the amount of laminar flow, the liquid that can be transported.
With a given throttle 18, the pressure P2 and the pressure loss (Pt-P2) are functions of P. If the diameter of the groove 44 is large enough, a flow proportional to the pressure difference can be achieved for relatively high pressures P1. With a relatively wide groove 44, the necessary flow resistance is achieved by increasing the groove length. Thanks to the helical course of the groove 44, the necessary groove length can be achieved while maintaining a compact design. Of course, the groove 44 does not necessarily have to be helical.
You could have any regular or irregular, crooked course. It could also be machined in the block 46 or partly in this and partly in the wall 42.
However, the design shown with a surface having the groove 44 and a smooth surface is particularly useful. The groove 44 can be precisely dimensioned and the corresponding organ, here the insert 34, can be made of plastic, for. B. be manufactured by injection molding. Any cleaning is also easy to carry out. As already mentioned, the tolerances for the diameter of the groove are particularly important. Thanks to the fact that the diameter is chosen to be large, these tolerances can be adhered to better or their importance can be somewhat reduced. The outer surface of the block 46 must fit into the chamber 40 in such a way that practically no leakage from the groove 44 is possible.
The means described below prevent liquid from flowing out of the pocket 2 into the bore 12 as long as the pressure P1 remains below a predetermined value.
A valve spindle 60 extends downwards, its end being tapered in such a way that it fits exactly into the bore 39 and can close the same.
This tapered end has an outer, open axial groove 62 on its side facing the end 16. The valve spindle 60 is axially adjustable. The length of the groove 60 is such that in the uppermost position of the valve spindle 60 the groove 63 opens into the bore 12 (FIG. 2), and that this groove 62 in the lowest position of the valve spindle 60 through the wall of the bore of the part 35 of the insert 34 is closed (Fig. 3).
The valve spindle 60 extends through an opening 64 of the body 10. At its upper end, the valve spindle 60 carries a piston 70 which is arranged in a cylinder formed by two parts 66, 68. The piston 70 is under the action of a spring 72 which tends to keep it in its lowest position. The lower side of the piston 70 can be acted upon by liquid under pressure P 1. This liquid passes under the piston 70 via a bore 74 in the body 10 and a bore 76 in the part 66.
The valve spindle 60 is guided during its adjustment by a projection 78 which is mounted on the Kol ben 70 and d slides in a bore 80 of the part 68. A membrane 82 clamped between the parts 66, 68 seals the piston 70 off.
The piston 70 and the membrane 82 expediently consist of one piece. They can be made of plastic.
Another membrane 84, which is expediently made in one piece with the valve spindle 60, is clamped between the body 10 and the part 66; it seals off the bore 64. The space above the piston 70 is ventilated thanks to bores 86, 88.
The apparatus described works as follows:
The apparatus can be connected via the end 14 of the bore 12 to the discharge side of a control valve in the supply line for the water installation. The pocket 22 is filled with a fluoride solution. When the aforementioned control valve is opened, the water flows through the throttle 29 and 18 and exits the apparatus through the end 16. The flow through the throttle 18 causes a pressure loss (Pr-P2), while the throttle 29 limits the highest value of P1. The water also flows into the space 28, so that an externally directed pressure P1 is exerted on the pocket 22.
At the same time, the water flows through the bores 74, 76 and lifts the piston 70 and with it the valve spindle 60. The groove 62 is then open with respect to the bore 12. The pocket 22 communicates with the outflow side of the bore 12 via the bore 56, the groove 44 and the groove 62. There is a pressure difference (P-P2) between the interior of the pocket 22 and the right-hand side of the bore 12, so that the membrane moves 58 lifts. Thus, a flow of fluoride solution enters the water flow in bore 12.
The flow rate of the solution is essentially constant for the various values of Pa.
In order to keep these values of P1 in the interval for which the flow rate in Ider groove 44 is linear, the throttle 29 is provided. The throttle 29 reduces the pressure below the value of the supply line pressure and that the reduction increases with increasing pressure.
The throttle 29 cannot reduce every pressure to a value for which the flow rate from the pocket 22 is linear. If, however, the highest possible line pressure is known, a corresponding throttle 29 can be provided.
At low values of P3, no solution can flow out because the pressure P1 is insufficient to lift the piston 70 against the action of the spring 72, so that the groove 62 remains blocked. If the pressure P1 tends towards zero, there is no pressure loss across the throttle and the pocket 22 is also no longer under sufficient pressure. The spring 72 moves the valve spindle 60 downwards and the diaphragm 58 rests on the projection 52.
The outflow of the solution from the pocket 22 is prevented by two different barriers - the membrane 58 and the end of the valve spindle 60. Since the mentioned control valve is arranged upstream, these blockings can also be controlled by the pressure P, since with a given throttle 18 both P and (Pr-P2) are functions of P1.
If the apparatus is connected upstream of the control valve mentioned, the pressures P1, P2 are equal to the line pressures when the control valve is closed. Closing this control valve would therefore not in itself be sufficient to prevent the solution from flowing out. The pressure P1 then acts against the action of the spring 72.
The pressure P2 counteracts the pressure P1.
However, since P1 = P2 when the control valve is closed, the effects of these pressures cancel each other out, so that the spring 72 can nevertheless prevent the solution from flowing out.
Because the groove 62 is directed downward, the risk of clogging by foreign bodies is practically eliminated.
Between the maximum and the minimum of the values of P, the flow rate through the groove 44 is proportional to the pressure loss (Pt-P2). At a given maximum value of the pressure in the supply line, the pressure P1 is kept below the maximum by the throttle 29.
