The new polyepoxides (I) are obtained according to the invention by adding compounds of the formula
EMI2.1
where X 'denotes an aliphatic or araliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing at least one C =C double bond, epoxidized.
The epoxidation of the C CC double bonds according to the invention can be carried out by customary methods, preferably with the aid of organic peracids such as peracetic acid, perbenzoic acid, peradipic acid, monoperphthalic acid etc .; mixtures of H2O2 and organic acids, such as formic acid, or acid anhydrides, such as acetic anhydride or succinic anhydride, can also be used.
Hypochlorous acid can also be used, with HOC1 being added to the double bond in a first stage, and in a second stage under the action of HCl-releasing agents, e.g. B. strong alkalis, the epoxy group is formed.
The most easily accessible are the polyepoxides of the formula
EMI2.2
wherein X is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with 3 to 22 carbon atoms substituted by at least one epoxy group.
In the uncured state, these epoxides are light-colored, low-viscosity liquids which can be converted into cured products with excellent technical properties using suitable curing agents such as dicarboxylic acid anhydrides.
These preferred polyepoxides are obtained by using compounds of the formula

wherein X 'denotes an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing at least one C =C double bond and having 3 to 22 carbon atoms, treated with epoxidizing agents.
Some of the polydihydrocyclopentadienes of the formulas (11) and (1V) used as starting materials are known compounds. They are expediently prepared by adding alcohols of the formula X'-OH onto poly- or dicyclopentadienes.
It is also possible first to add water to a poly- or dicyclopentadiene and etherify the dihydropoly- or dihydrodicyclopentadienol formed with an alcohol X'-OH or X1, -OH by customary methods.
Alcohols of the formula X'-OH are:
Cinnamon alcohol, crotyl alcohol, methallyl alcohol,
Rhodinol, oleyl alcohol, erucyl alcohol,
Linolenyl alcohol, linoleylaikohoi; by hydrogenation of natural unsaturated fatty acid mixtures, such as linseed oil acids, soy fatty acids or tall oil fatty acids, mixtures of higher tongue-saturated fatty alcohols and in particular allyl alcohol.

B. alkali metal alcoholates, also advantageously polyhydroxyl compounds such as hexanetriol, glycerol, also use.
When curing the epoxy resins mentioned with carboxylic acid anhydrides, it is advantageous to use only about 1 gram equivalent of epoxy groups
0.3 to 0.9 gram equivalent anhydride groups. At
Use of basic accelerators such as
Alkali alcoholates or alkali salts of carboxylic acids, up to 1.0 gram equivalents of anhydride groups can be used.
The term hardening as used herein means the transformation of the foregoing
Epoxy compounds in insoluble and infusible resins.
The curable mixtures of the above
Polyepoxides and curing agents for epoxy resins, such as preferably die or polycarboxylic anhydrides, also advantageously contain a proportion of the otherwise corresponding ethers, the epoxy groups of which, however, are wholly or partially saponified to hydroxyl groups and / or other crosslinking polyhydroxyl compounds such as hexanetriol. Of course, other epoxies can be added to the curable epoxy compounds, such as. B.

The reaction vessel provided with a dropping funnel
108.5 parts of allyloxydihydrodicyclopentadiene [8- (or 9) -allyloxy-tricyclo- (5,2,1,02.6) -decea-3 which was prepared in a known manner according to US Pat. No. 2,393,608 from dicyclopentadiene and allyl alcohol and which contains 1.0 mol of double bonds per kg, dissolved in 315 parts of ethyl acetate and cooled to 13-150 in a water bath. 183 parts of a 50% strength aqueous solution of peracetic acid, corresponding to 1.2 mol of active oxygen, are added dropwise at the specified bath temperature over the course of 40 minutes. The contents of the flask are heated to about 200 during this process. The cloudy mixture is stirred for about 21 hours at an internal temperature of about 200 and then for about 26.5 hours at 400.
Then the mixture is cooled to about 200. While stirring and cooling, 125 parts by volume of about 10N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution are added in small portions at an internal temperature of 20-300 within about 30 minutes. When left to stand, the aqueous layer separates, which is separated from the mixture and discarded.
From the organic phase washed three times with about 100 parts of water each volatile components are first under reduced pressure at a bath temperature of about 300 and finally during 1 t / 2 hours at a bath temperature of about 550 and a pressure of about 0.15 mm Hg distilled off. The residue left behind is 110 parts of a clear, colorless liquid with an epoxy content of 7.0 epoxy equivalents / kg, which consists mainly of 8- (or 9) -glycidyloxy-3, 4-epoxy tricyclo- (5, 2.1, 02, 6 ) -decane of the formula

consists.
Example 2
101.5 parts of allyloxydihydrodicyclopentadiene, which contains 0.94 double bonds / kg, are dissolved in 405 parts of chloroform in a reaction vessel equipped with a reflux condenser, stirrer, internal thermometer and dropping funnel. 110 parts of succinic anhydride and 1.1 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate are added to the solution with stirring, and the mixture is heated to about 400 with the aid of a water bath. 44 parts of an 85% strength aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide, corresponding to 1 , 1 mole of active oxygen, add dropwise within about 30 minutes. After a short time, the mixture heats up to about 620 and cools down again to bath temperature (45b). The bath temperature is then increased to 520 within about 15 minutes.
The mixture is further stirred for about 3.5 hours at an internal temperature of 510, then cooled to about 200. The precipitated succinic acid is filtered off and washed three times with 100 parts of chloroform each time. These chloroform extracts are combined with the main filtrate, and the chloroform solution, after adding 53 parts of sodium carbonate, is stirred for about 15 hours at room temperature. The salt is filtered off and washed with chloroform. The combined chloroform filtrates (1120 parts by volume) are washed twice with 200 parts of water each time. The solvent is then largely removed at a bath temperature of about 500, initially under slightly reduced pressure and finally completely removed at a pressure of about 0.1 mm Hg.
The residue left behind is 108 parts of a clear, colorless liquid with a content of 7.5 epoxide equivalents / kg, consisting mainly of 8- (or 9) -glycidyloxy-3, sepoxy-tricyclo- (5, 2, 1, 02 6) -decane.
Example 3

No. 2,393,608 from dicyclopentadiene and oleylalkoz hol was prepared, are mixed with 2000 parts of ethyl benzene and 15 parts of anhydrous sodium acetate. With stirring, 840 parts of about 42% peracetic acid are added over the course of 1 hour. The temperature is initially kept at 400 by cooling and then by external heat supply. After the mixture has reacted at 400 for 3 hours, the theoretical amount of peracetic acid has been consumed. It is cooled, the lower aqueous layer is separated off and the solution is washed twice with 250 parts of water each time.
The solution is evaporated in a Wasserstrabl- vacuum with the addition of 900 parts by volume of ethylbenzene. The residue is freed from the last residues of solvent at 1100 in a high vacuum. 792 parts of low-viscosity epoxy resin with an epoxy content of 4.14 epoxy equivalents / kg are obtained, which is mainly composed of 8- (or 9) - (9 ', 10'-epoxyoctadecyloxy) -3, 4-epoxy- tricyclo- ( 5.2, 1, 026) decane.
