Im Falle 1 seien als Epoxydgruppen enthaltende bzw. als epoxydierbare Verbindungen mit einer wie oben definierten reaktionsf'ä'higen Gruppe genannt ungesättigte Alkohole, wie Allylalkohol, ^3-Tetra- hydrobenzylalkahol und 6-Methyl-^s-tetrahydroben- zylalkohol ;
Glycerindiester von ungesättigten Fett säuren, wie Glycerindioleat oder Glycerindilinoleat ungesättigte Carbonsäuren und deren funktionelle Derivate, wie ^3-Tetrahydrobenzoesäure, 6-Methyl- ^3-tetrahydrobenzoesäure, Ölsäure, Elaidinsäure, Ri- cinolsäure, Linolsäure, Ricinensäure, Tallölsäuren, Soyafettsäuren, Leinölsäuren, Tungölsäuren, Croton- säure, Acrylsäure, Methacrylsäure, Acrylsäureme thylester, Acrylchlorid etc. ; ungesättigte Halogenide, wie Allylbromid und Allylchlorid ;

AlCl3, SbCl5 , SnCl4, ZnCl2, BF3 und deren Komplexe mit organischen Verbindungen, Me tallfluorborate, Phosphorsäure. Bevorzugt verwendet man als Härter mehrbasische Carbonsäuren und ihre Anhydride, z. B. Phthalsäureanhydrid, Methylendo- methylentetrahydrophthalsäureanhydrid, Dodecenyl- bernsteinsäureanhydrid, Hexahydrophthalsäureanhy- drid, Hexachlorendomethylentetrahydrophthalsäure- anhydrid oder Endomethylentetrahydrophthalsäure- anhydrid oder deren Gemische ;

stand, where A1 stands for a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl radical.
The aldehydes of the formula (III) are derivatives of tetrahydrobenzene. The following may be mentioned: ^ 3-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde, 6-methyl-A3-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde and 2,5-endomethylene-^ 3-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde.
Possible polyalcohols of the formula (IV) are: triols, such as glycerol, trimethylolethane, trimethylolpropane, butanetriol- (1,2,4), 1,2,6-hexanetriol, 2,4-dioxy-3-oxymethylpentane; Halohydrins such as glycerin-aα monochlorohydrin, glycerin-ss-chlorohydrin, glycerin-aα-bromohydrin, glyceric acid.
The acetalization can be carried out by methods known per se, such as. B. by heating the aldehydes of formula (III) together with the di- or polyalcohol (IV) in the presence of an acidic catalyst, such as. B. hydrochloric acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid.
You can also use 1 mole of an aldehyde of the formula (III) to 1 mole of an epoxide of the formula
EMI0002.0015
attach. In both cases one arrives at acetals of the formula
EMI0002.0016
The conversion of the compound (VI) into the unsaturated acetals of the formula (II) depends on the type of functional group G '. There is the condensation, such as etherification, esterification or transesterification with reactive compounds, which z. B. contain one or more mobile halogen atoms or groups containing active hydrogen atoms, furthermore the addition of aαss-unsaturated compounds with one or more C = C double bonds.
There are basically two cases: 1. The reactive compound used, which is reacted with the acetal (VI), contains an epoxy group or an epoxidizable C = C double bond, which does not react when reacted with the acetal (VI) . In this case, reactive compounds with only one reactive group, such as e.g. B. a mobile halogen atom, a hydroxyl or carboxyl group can be used.
1. The reactive compound used contains no epoxy groups or epoxidizable ones
EMI0002.0022
Groups that do not already react with the acetate (VI) during the reaction. In this case, the reactive compounds must have at least two reactive groups, such as. B. have mobile halogen atoms, hydroxyl, carboxyl groups or olefinic C = C double bonds capable of attachment to hydroxyl groups etc.
In case 1, compounds containing epoxy groups or compounds which can be epoxidized and have a reactive group as defined above may be mentioned as unsaturated alcohols, such as allyl alcohol, 3-tetrahydrobenzyl alcohol and 6-methyl-s-tetrahydrobenzyl alcohol;
Glycerol diesters of unsaturated fatty acids, such as glycerol dioleate or glycerol dilinoleate unsaturated carboxylic acids and their functional derivatives, such as ^ 3-tetrahydrobenzoic acid, 6-methyl- ^ 3-tetrahydrobenzoic acid, oleic acid, elaidic acid, ricinoleic acid, linoleic acid, ricinic acid, linseed oil fatty acids Tung oleic acids, crotonic acid, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid methyl esters, acrylic chloride etc.; unsaturated halides such as allyl bromide and allyl chloride;
unsaturated acetals, such as 3-vinyl-2,4-dioxospiro- (5,5) -undecene-9 and 3-propenyl-7-methyl-2,4-dioxospiro- (5,5-undecene-9.
In case 2, saturated or unsaturated compounds with at least two reactive groups as defined above may be mentioned: saturated polyalcohols such as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol, glycerol, sor bit, pentaerythritol, unsaturated polyalcohols such as Butene- (2) diol-1,4, 1,1-bis- [oxymethyl] -cyclohexene-3 and 1,1-bis- [oxymethyl] -6-methyl-cyclohexene-3, glycerine monoesters of unsaturated fatty acids, such as Glycerine monoleate or glycerine monolinoleate, di- and polyphenols, such as resorcinol, hydroquinone, bis- [p-oxyphenyl] methane and 2,
2-bis- [p-oxyphenyl] propane, carbonic acid, phosgene and polycarboxylic acids, such as oxalic acid, succinic acid, adipic acid, sebacic acid, hexahydrophthalic acid, phthalic acid, terephthalic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid, tetrahydrophthalic acid and their pyromellitic acid functional derivatives such as acid halides and acid anhydrides.
Furthermore, polyhalogen compounds such as dichloromethane, dichloroethane, dibromoethane, dichlorobutene etc. Furthermore, compounds with two or more C = C double bonds,. B. are capable of attachment to OH groups to form an ether bridge, such as ethylene glycol - bis - acrylic acid esters, N, N'-bis [acrylamido] methane and N, N ', N "-tri-acrylyl-hexahydrotriazine 1,3,5; Bis-acetals of aero-lin, such as 3,9-divinyl-spirobi- (m-dioxane).
It is also possible to acetalize 2 moles of aldehyde of the formula (III) with 1 mole of a polyalcohol of the formula
EMI0003.0023
directly to unsaturated acetals of the formula (II) ge long; Examples of polyalcohols (VII) are diglycerol or ethylene glycol diglycerol ether.
Finally, it is also possible to prepare directly unsaturated acetals of the formula (II) by mixing 1 mol of an aldehyde of the formula (III) with 1 mol of a dialcohol of the formula

Group contains. Examples of dialcohols (VIII) include: adducts of triols, such as glycerol, with dicyclopentadiene; Diels-Alder adducts of the monoallyl ethers of triols, such as glycerol mono-allyl ether with cyclopentadiene.
The inventive conversion of the C = C double bonds into epoxy groups can be carried out by customary methods, preferably with the aid of organic peracids such as peracetic acid, perbenzoic acid, peradipic acid, monoperphthalic acid, etc. You can also use hypochlorous acid, with HOCl in a first stage is attached to the double bond and in a second stage under the action of HCl-releasing agents such. B. strong alkalis, the epoxy group is formed.
In the second stage, if the acetals of the formula (II) contain halohydrin groups in addition to epoxidizable C =C double bonds, these groups can also be converted into epoxy groups.
During epoxy formation. In addition to the di- or polyepoxides, as a result of side reactions, completely or only partially hydrolyzed epoxides can also arise at the same time, i.e. H. Compounds in which the epoxy group of the polyepoxy .der formula (1) is wholly or partially saponified to hydroxyl groups.
It was found that the presence of such byproducts generally favorably influences the technical properties of the cured polyepoxides. It is therefore generally advisable not to isolate the pure polyepoxides from the reaction mixture.
The diepoxides of the formula, for example, have particularly favorable technical properties
EMI0003.0047
where R and R 'represent hydrogen atoms or lower alkyl radicals having 1-4 carbon atoms, Y1 is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical and m and n are integers to the value of 1 or 2; also the diepoxides of the formula

wherein R and R 'stand for hydrogen atoms or lower alkyl radicals with 1-4 C atoms.
Such epoxies are bright, liquid or fusible resins at room tempera ture, which can be mixed with suitable hardeners, such as. B. dicarboxylic acid anhydrides, can be converted into clear and light-colored hardened products with excellent technical properties.
The epoxidized acetals obtained according to the invention react with the usual hardeners for epoxy compounds. By adding such hardeners, they can therefore be crosslinked or cured in the same way as other polyfunctional epoxy compounds or epoxy resins. Basic or, in particular, acidic compounds are suitable as such hardeners.
The following have proven to be suitable: amines or amides, such as aliphatic and aromatic primary, secondary and tertiary amines, e.g. B. mono-, di- and tributylamines, p-phenylenediamine, bis- [p-aminophenyl] methane, ethylenediamine, N, N-diethylethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, tetra- [oxyethyl] -diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, Tetraethylene pentamine, N, N-dimethylpropylenediamine, trimethylamine, diethylamine, triethanolamine, Mannich bases, piperidine, piperazine, guanidine and guanidine derivatives such as phenyldiguanidine,
Diphenylguanidine, dicyandiamide, Ani lin-formaldehyde resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, melamine-formaldehyde resins, polymers of amino styrenes, polyamides, z. B. those made from aliphatic polyamines and dimerized or trimerized, unsaturated fatty acids, isocyanates, isothiocyanates; polyhydric phenols, e.g. B. resorcinol, hydroquinone, bis- [4-oxyphenyl] dimethyl methane, quinone, phenol aldehyde resins, oil-modified phenol aldehyde resins, reaction products of aluminum alcoholates or phenolates with tautomeric compounds of the acetoacetic ester type, Friedel-Crafts catalysts, z. B.
AlCl3, SbCl5, SnCl4, ZnCl2, BF3 and their complexes with organic compounds, metal fluoroborates, phosphoric acid. Preference is given to using polybasic carboxylic acids and their anhydrides as hardeners, e.g. B. phthalic anhydride, methylendomethylene tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, dodecenyl succinic anhydride, hexahydrophthalic anhydride, hexachloroendomethylene tetrahydrophthalic anhydride or endomethylene tetrahydrophthalic anhydride or mixtures thereof;
Malpic or succinic anhydride; you can optionally Be accelerators, such as tertiary amines or strong Lewis bases, for. B. Alkali alcoholates, also advantageously polyhydroxyl compounds such as hexanetriol, glycerol, with use.
It has been found that when the epoxy resins obtained according to the invention are cured with carboxylic acid anhydrides, only about 0.3 to 0.9 gram equivalent anhydride groups are advantageously used to 1 gram equivalent of epoxy groups. When using basic accelerators, such as alkali alcoholates or alkali salts of carboxylic acids, up to 1.0 gram equivalent of anhydride groups can be used.
The term hardening, as it is used here, means the conversion of the above epoxy compounds into insoluble and infusible resins.
The curable mixtures also advantageously contain a proportion of the otherwise corresponding acetals, the epoxy groups of which, however, have been wholly or partially saponified to hydroxyl groups and / or other polyhydroxyl compounds with a crosslinking effect, such as hexanetriol. Of course, other epoxides can also be added to the curable epoxy compounds, such as. B. mono- or polyglycidyl ethers of mono- or polyalcohols, such as butyl alcohol, 1,4-butanediol or glycerol, or of mono- or polyphenols, such as resorcinol, bis [4-oxyphenyl] dimethylmethane or condensation products of aldehydes with phenols ( Novolaks), also polyglycidyl esters of polycarboxylic acids, such as phthalic acid, and also aminopolyepoxides, as they are, for.
B. obtained by dehydrohalogenation of reaction products of epihalohydrines and primary or secondary amines, such as n-butylamine, aniline or 4,4'-di- (monomethylamino) -diphenylmethane.
The curable epoxy compounds or their mixtures with hardeners can also be mixed with fillers, plasticizers, coloring substances, etc. in any phase prior to hardening. As an extender and filler, asphalt, bitumen, glass fibers, mica, quartz powder, cellulose, kaolin, finely divided silica (AEROSIL) or metal powder can be used.
The mixtures of the epoxy compounds and hardeners obtained according to the invention can be used in the unfilled or filled state, optionally in the form of solutions or emulsions, as textile auxiliaries, lamination resins, paints, varnishes, dipping resins, casting resins, coating, filling and leveling compounds, adhesives, molding compounds and the same as well as for the production of such agents. The new resins are particularly valuable as insulation compounds for the electrical industry.

141.5 parts of the bis-acetal are dissolved in 500 parts of ethyl acetate and 165 parts of peracetic acid are added in portions. The temperature is initially kept at 400 by cooling, then by external heat supply. After 3 1/2 hours, 97% of the theoretical amount of peracetic acid has been consumed. One cools down; diluted with 500 parts by volume of ethylbenzene, washed with 2 times 150 parts of water and evaporated in vacuo with the addition of 1000 parts by volume of ethylbenzene. The last remnants of solvent are removed at 120o in a high vacuum.
143 parts of epoxy resin with 3.75 epoxy equivalents / kg are obtained. Example 13 The procedure is exactly the same as that described in Example 12, but instead of 6-methyl- ^ 3-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde, 125 parts of 2,5-endomethylene- ^ 3-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde are used. The bis-acetal obtained boils at 202-204 / 0.2 mmHg: in the epoxidation, the theoretical amount of peracetic acid is consumed after 3 hours. The diepoxide he obtained is an amorphous, brittle resin. The epoxide content cannot be determined with hydrogen bromide.
Example 14 112 parts of glycerol monotricyclodecenyl ether (adduct of dicyclopentadiene and glycerol) are concentrated in a circulation distillation apparatus in the presence of 0.3 parts of zinc chloride, 0.3 parts by volume. Phosphoric acid and 500 parts by volume of benzene condensed with 60 Tei len A3-tetrahydrobenzaldehyde. The solution of the acetal formed is filtered and evaporated. The residue is .destilliert. 152 parts of product with a bp 165-1720 / 0.02 mmHg are obtained.
