Replaceable Lamp Miniature Indicator The present invention relates to a replaceable lamp miniature indicator having a flanged base.
In view of recent developments in the existing technique in the field of digital computers, electronic counters carrying out measurements on radioactive materials, aerial computing and navigation equipment, etc., the need for small indicator elements has increased extraordinarily. .
These indicators are generally used to indicate the state of any of the multiple circuits or arrangements which are incorporated into the overall structure of a calculating, counting or similar device. Since each device comprises a fairly large number of these circuits or assemblies, the manufacturers of miniature indicators have made a sustained effort to produce smaller indicators, but nevertheless able to assume an increasing number of functions incumbent upon them.
One of the modes of increasing the functional abilities of the small indicator consists in providing an indicator whose housing is not placed at the common earth terminal of the electrical assembly. As is known to the technician, certain electronic assemblies include a separate mass associated with the power sources and another mass commonly called silent mass associated with the signal-carrying assemblies.
In assemblies comprising masses of these two types, it is customary to ground the frame or panel of the apparatus to the ground of the power sources and, consequently, the field of application of indicators comprising a housing. external earthed, i.e. using only one terminal and not two, is limited by the fact that the single terminal is usually connected to a signal-carrying circuit and that, if the panel is put to the feed mass, the goal proposed by providing two separate masses cannot be achieved.
For such applications involving two different earthing systems, it is necessary to isolate the indicator circuit from the indicator housing or, in any application in which it is desirable to separate each stage from the other. , still use an indicator to indicate the state of a particular circuit or assembly.
When it is necessary or desirable to isolate the indicator circuit from the housing of the indicator, one comes up against the problem posed by the production of a satisfactory indicator of fairly small diametral dimension, given the insulation to be provided. Taking into account the ever increasing number of indicators to be incorporated into panels, this need is becoming more and more acute so that any reduction made to the total diameter of the indicator in the part of the latter which crosses the panel is welcome. for the user and ardently sought after by manufacturers. As a result, there is an ever increasing demand for indicators of increasingly smaller outside diameter.
The indicator according to the invention makes it possible to obviate these drawbacks and it is for this purpose characterized in that it comprises a cylindrical housing which has an outer end section and an inner end section in which is provided a bore with a diameter greater than that of the bore formed in the outer end section, means connected to the housing for fixing the latter in a hole made in a panel, said inner end section being entirely located behind the panel, an insulating tube being fitted into the bore of the inner end section,
a tubular conductor member being mounted in said insulating tube so as not to be able to move in translation in the housing and having on its inner face an internal thread which goes from one of its ends, located in the vicinity, but to the 'inside, of said outer end section of the housing towards the outside, in the direction of its opposite end, a first terminal ensuring electrical contact with said tubular member, a spring-loaded conductive element located in said next conductive tubular member the longitudinal longitudinal axis of the box,
one end of which extends beyond the conductive tubular member and which is arranged to move along said axis when said spring is compressed inwardly, means isolating said conductive element spring-loaded from said tubular member conductor and said terminal, a cylindrical lamp holder having on one end, an end cap transmitting both light and, at the other end, a conductive sleeve having a thread, this sleeve of the lamp holder being of diameter such that its threaded end slides through the outer end section of the housing,
cooperate with the tap of the conductive tubular member, and a miniature lamp, with a base fitted with a rim, arranged to fit into said sleeve of the lamp holder so that one of its terminals bears against this man chon and that the other of its terminals bears against said conductive element biased by spring.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the subject of the present invention.
The fia. 1 is a sectional view along the longitudinal longitudinal axis of the indicator, and FIG. 2 is an end view of the indicator showing the terminals and the contact pin. The miniature indicator 10 comprises a cylindrical housing 11, fixed to a panel 12 by a stop nut 13 which screws onto a thread 14 formed on a section of reduced diameter 15 of the housing 11. In the other end of the housing 11 a central hazard 16 is provided, which is wider than the bore made in the section 15 carrying the thread 14.
The smaller diameter bore formed in the front section 15 forms with the larger diameter bore a shoulder such that an insulating tube 17 can be inserted into the large diameter bore 16, the shoulder l ' preventing song from sliding forward in the direction of the section of smaller diameter 15. The insulating tube 17 can be either based on paper impregnated with a phenolic substance, or any other suitable insulating material. The housing 11 is made of an aluminum alloy or possibly any easily deformable plastic material.
In the insulating tube 17 is housed a cup 20 open at one end and having in its closed end or base a mortise 21 and, inside its open end section, a thread 22 directed towards the closed end or base. The cup 20 is preferably made of nickel bearing an electrolytic coating of brass, but any electrically conductive material may be suitable.
In the narrow part of the mortise 21 is located a connection plate 23 having the shape of a T, the transverse bar of which bears against the side wall of the cup 20, of which it can thus ensure the supply from a source. external current. An insulating washer 24 made of epoxy glass bears in the cup 20, near the base of the latter and bears against the plate 23 to keep it in contact with the cup. The washer 24 is crossed at its center by a tubular rivet 25, having at each end an eyelet-shaped head, one of which bears against the washer 24.
Another insulating washer 26, similar to washer 24, is crimped into the end of the housing 10, at the outer end of the large diameter bore 16. The rivet 25 with diamond heads. eyelet also passes through the center of the washer 26, its other head bearing against a connection plate 27. In other words, the washers 24 and 26 support the connection plates 23 and 27 and keep the cup 20 a fixed position with respect to the end of the box 11.
A pin 30 slides in the annular rivet 25 and has a head 31 located at its end bare in the cup 20 and another head 32 located at its end which extends beyond the housing 11 and the washer 26. A spring 33, compressed by the head 31, bears against the rivet 25 so as to permanently urge the pin 30 towards the reduced diameter section 15. A lamp holder 34 comprises an end cap 35 transmitting the light and a sleeve 36 force-fitted into this cap. On the end of the sleeve 36 opposite the end cap 35 is formed a thread 37 which screws into the thread 22 made in the inner face of the cup 20.
The end cap 35 is preferably made of cellulose acetate butyrate, but it will of course suffice that it be of a material capable of transmitting light. The sleeve 36 may be made of nickel bearing an electrolytic coating of brass or any other material which is a good conductor of current.
A lamp 40 is immobilized in the bore of the sleeve 36 and has an outer electrode 41, generally formed by the shell of the lamp base and a central electrode 42, in direct contact with the head 31 of the pin 30. L ' electrode 41 is in direct electrical contact with sleeve 36 and it appears from this sleeve an electrical path which passes through thread 37 and internal thread 22, cup 20 and connection plate or terminal 23. The other path Electrical from lamp 40 is established through electrode 42, pin 30, spring 33 and rivet 25 to reach terminal 27. Lamp 40 can be of any of various miniature base types and can be neon or incandescent.
It should be emphasized that the lamp holder 34 is screwed into the thread 22 until the point where a shoulder 43 formed on the end cap 35 meets the reduced diameter section 15 of the housing 11 and prevents any subsequent compression of the spring 33. For certain applications, it may be appropriate to interpose a rubber seal or other flexible material between the shoulder 43 and the reduced diameter section 15.
The two-terminal, ungrounded miniature indicator described previously has a simple structure, is inexpensive, and has a small footprint. Its external dimensions only require the presence in the panel of a hole of smaller diameter than those provided according to the prior art, this without compromising the efficiency or unduly increasing the manufacturing costs.
