Method for the wet crease resistance of textiles It is known from German Patent No. 1024 049 to make textiles crease and shrink-proof by treating them with solutions or emulsions of compounds with an average molecular weight between 300 and 1000, which on average is more than contain one, preferably more than 1.5, epoxy groups per molecule, and these compounds are converted into an insoluble resin by drying and heating the tissue in the presence of an acidic hardener.
With the usual acidic hardeners, however, there is practically no wet crease resistance. Such can be achieved with the specific curing agents for epoxy resins, such as zinc fluoroborate, but these have toxic effects.
In Belgian patent specification No. 556 279 it was proposed to make cellulose textiles wet-crease-resistant by treating them with aliphatic or aromatic compounds which contain at least one epoxy group and optionally a halogen atom or at least one such and a hydroxyl group on the adjacent carbon atom , treated separately or in emulsified form at the same time with aqueous solutions of strongly basic compounds,
Leaving the goods rolled up in the wet state for several hours at normal temperature in order to bring about crosslinking of the cellulose molecules, after which the textiles are acidified, thoroughly rinsed and dried. This process does not allow continuous operation. It is also stated on page 14, middle, of this patent that compounds of the type of halohydrins are more effective than those of the type of epoxy compounds.
It is also known from US Pat. No. 2,730,427 to impregnate cellulose textiles with the glycidyl ethers of glycols in the presence of catalysts and then to subject the textile material to a heat treatment. However, according to the method disclosed, no dry crease resistance and only insufficient wet crease resistance is achieved.
It has been found that you can achieve very good wet and dry wrinkle resistance on native and regenerated cellulose fiber-containing textile material by soaking the material continuously with an aqueous liquor that contains a strongly alkaline compound and a water-soluble glycidyl ether, the excess liquor is removed, the goods are immediately heated, rinsed, acidified and dried, characterized in that the textile goods are treated with an aqueous solution, which contains a latent, formaldehyde-releasing compound only during drying, and a water-soluble,
contains colorless salt of a divalent metal with a strong mineral acid, treats, dries, condenses at elevated temperature, rinses with water and dries again.
The method according to the invention enables the wet crease resistance of the cellulose textile material to be increased significantly compared with that of the above-mentioned Belgian patent and the above-mentioned USA patent. In addition, excellent dry wrinkle resistance is also achieved, as the comparative test in Example 3 below shows.
The water-soluble glycidyl ethers are those of glycol, glycerol or propanediol, also diglycidyl ethers and diglycidyl formal or the lower polymers of these compounds. Glycidyl ethers of alcohols with more than 3 hydroxyl groups are not very soluble in water and are therefore not suitable for the present process. Preferably, those glycidyl ethers are used which contain at least 1,5-epoxy groups per molecule.
The ethers are used in the form of 6- to 20 weight percent aqueous liquors, and the amount of the strongly alkaline compound, such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, be 1 to 12, in particular 2 to 6%, in the liquor.
The heating of the goods after soaking with the alkali and glycidyl ether-containing liquor is carried out at temperatures of 80 to 105 for 20 to 5 minutes. If necessary, the temperature can be higher, even up to 140. This depends on the goods to be equipped and their mechanical properties, as well as on the existing mechanical equipment. The goods are dried at the same time. The goods are then acidified, rinsed thoroughly and dried again.
The latent, formaldehyde-releasing compound on drying is preferably obtained by heating 1 mol of glycol with 2 mol of formaldehyde in an anhydrous state in the presence of 0.02 to 0.2 percent by weight of the reaction mixture of a strong acid, in particular sulfuric acid, to 100 to 105 and neutralizing won.
It is used in amounts of 60 to 140 g, in particular 80 to 120 g per liter of liquor, and the colorless salts of divalent metals with strong mineral acids, especially magnesium chloride, are suitable as the acid-donating metal salt, which in the form of its hexahydrate in amounts of 30 until 70% of the weight of the heating product described is added. However, the amount of metal salt should not be more than 80 g per liter of liquor.
After drying with the liquor containing a formaldehyde-releasing compound and a metal salt, the fabrics are dried, briefly reheated to temperatures above 130, in particular 140 to 160 ″, rinsed to remove the water-soluble compounds and dried again.
This two-stage treatment results in goods that have a soft, supple handle. Items of laundry made from it are characterized by their comfortable carrying capacity and skin tolerance. Particularly noteworthy is the resistance of washed items of laundry when they are damp against creasing during spinning. Even when it is damp, the wrinkle-free character of the goods is restored when they are simply hung up. A smooth strip of the laundry before drying to remove wrinkles is not necessary, nor renewed moistening device to remove creases, such as. B. in the so-called drip-dry process is required Lich.
These advantages described apply mutatis mutandis to textiles that were given the desired deformation during finishing. These resist the washes and, if they are damp, will regress by themselves after spinning. Example 1 A mercerized, bleached cotton poplin (m2 weight 132 g, 55 warp and 25 weft threads per cm, warp thread 68 - single Nm, weft thread 54 - single Nm) is first mixed with an aqueous liquor, the 100 g per liter of a latent, formaldehyde-releasing compound, the preparation of which is described later,
and contains 60 g of magnesium chloride hexahydrate, padded at about 20, pre-dried and condensed at a temperature of 155 for 5 minutes with a good supply of fresh air.
After the catalyst residues have been removed by thorough rinsing, intermediate drying is carried out and then treated on a padder with a liquor containing 200 g of ethylene glycol diglycidether and 50 g of sodium hydroxide per liter, squeezed to 78% liquor uptake and heated to a temperature of 100 for 15 minutes, drying occurs. This is followed by intensive rinsing, acidification and drying.
The goods not only have excellent dry and wet crease resistance, but also excellent resistance to deformation and creasing when centrifugally damp.

After the catalyst residues have been removed by thorough rinsing, drying is carried out. The goods treated in this way not only have an excellent wet and dry crease angle, but also an excellent resistance to creasing and deformation in the centrifugally damp area.

A gabardin made of 67% cotton and 33 Diolen fibers with 24 threads in the weft and 56 threads in the warp is first treated with a liquor according to Example 1, condensed, rinsed and dried. Then it is treated on the padder with a liquor containing 150 g propanediol glycidyl ether and 40 g sodium hydroxide per liter, squeezed and heated to 100 for about 15 minutes. It is then rinsed, acidified with acetic acid, rinsed again and dried.
The finished product has a pleasant, soft handle in addition to the other properties according to the invention. Example 7 A section of an unbleached, but already boiled and mercerized cotton popeline with an m weight of 136 g is mixed with an aqueous liquor which Contains 180 g / l ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether and 20 g / l NaOH, padded, squeezed off and dried at a temperature of 130 for a period of 41/2 minutes.
After the majority of the NaOH has been removed by rinsing, the fabric is bleached by a combined chlorine-peroxide process in the broad state and then dried and then with an aqueous liquor, consisting of 80 g / 1 of the latent, described in Example 1, formaldehyde-releasing compound (100%)
and 40 g / 1 magnesium chloride hexahydrate padded. After pre-drying to residual moisture, the mixture is condensed for 5 minutes at a temperature of 150 with a supply of fresh air, then washed warm to remove the amount of magnesium chloride and dried. The sample treated in this way has a very good wet and dry wrinkle angle, a smooth handle, good abrasion resistance, good tear resistance, good chlorine resistance and a good centrifugal wet wrinkle angle.
