Method for producing a record with an image visible from at least one side of the record
The invention relates to a method for producing a record with an image that is visible from at least one side of the record.
In the known records produced by a pressing process, identifying labels are attached to the record. These labels are placed in an open mold before the generally opaque plate mass is introduced.
Then the preheated and thereby plasticized plate mass is brought into the preheated press mold and this is closed. The groove shape of the die is stamped into the panel material under high pressure and while the mold is heated.
A particular disadvantage of the pressing method mentioned here is, inter alia, that the plate mass cannot be brought into an open mold, but that this plate mass must be placed in the middle of the mold in the form of a paste-like mass. By closing the hot mold, the plate mass is eccentrically pressed outwards under pressure, whereby it often happens that the plate, which is pressed under the influence of heat and then cooled, is thinner at the edge than in the middle, which is associated with playback noise with regard to the sound reproduction is because the sapphire or diamond needle has to overcome height differences from the outside to the inside, which leads to mechanical noise. Another disadvantage of this pressing process is that the dies are subject to greater wear.
With this method it is also possible to include any pictures in the record mass.
A known record, especially produced in large numbers by the injection molding process, has adhesively attached labels or physical structures caused by the injection mold and generally consists of a light-colored record material.
It is also known that plastic-based records are produced which have the unpleasant property that they have strong dust-attracting properties due to static charging. It is well known that such dust particles are, among other things, the cause of playback interference and shorten the life of a record very much.
There are also sound foils produced in particular as picture postcards which have a cardboard carrier and are coated on the image side with a grainless, colorless layer of varnish which serves as the carrier for the sound track. The durability of these sound foils is considerably less than that of pressed or injection-molded records. In particular, the lacquer layer is very easily detached from the corners, so that the entire film can be peeled off the cardboard base. It has been found that the lacquer layer as the carrier of the sound track is so thin that when it was pulled off the cardboard, grooves could still be found in the cardboard base. As tests have shown, the sound quality as a result of the thin sound carrier layer leaves a lot to be desired in terms of resonance and timbre.
Another disadvantage of such sound foils is that as a result of the offset printing that is mainly used and in connection with the sound grooves, refractions of light occur which distort the image and are therefore extremely disturbing to the eye.
An image record is also known which, among other things, has the task of avoiding material waste. It should be noted that the maximum depth of a record groove is 121,100 millimeters, i.e. 24 ovo millimeters on both sides together, which means that with an assumed record thickness of 2 millimeters, around 800/0 of the material remains unused. This type of image recording disk is also characterized in that the image has the size of the disk and is therefore not completely surrounded by the disk mass.
Similar to the sound foils produced as postcards, the disadvantages are that the picture is exposed to atmospheric oxygen and humidity due to its same size as that of the plate, and swelling phenomena occur due to absorption of moisture and thus deform the plate in a wave-like manner. The process for the production of such image disks also leads to several operations by z. B. a carrier plate is provided with a suitable plastic solution or plastic dispersion and is pressed after drying to form a plate. It has been shown that the clay groove cannot easily be pressed into the mass with the usual methods, and nothing is mentioned in this regard either.
There are also known records that carry an image on a middle layer (core), which can preferably consist of aluminum, plastic or cardboard.
Numerous proposals have already been made for connecting these parts to one another, but none of them have been satisfied because the individual parts separated from one another, or because the production of such records was far too expensive. A further increase in manufacturing costs can be seen, among other things, in the fact that up to now manufacturing could not be carried out in a single operation.
The previously known processes for producing illustrated records have not been satisfactory to this day because such records usually warp or deform in a wave-like manner.
Another point that led to the failure of such records was the fact that the high pressures required when processing thermoplastics into records meant that the image inserts to be pressed in had to tear due to the unavoidable lateral shifting of the material during the pressing process.
The aim of the invention is to eliminate all of the disadvantages listed here so that the service life of the record corresponds to the service life of a record which can be played repeatedly and is a multiple of the service life of a sound foil.
The invention relates to a method for producing a record with an image visible from at least one side of the plate, in which an image carrier is enclosed between transparent plastic films and at the same time at least one of the films is provided with the sound track, characterized in that after the films have been inserted with the interposition of the On the image carrier, the mold is initially only closed until it is touched and heated until the plastic becomes plastic and then the full pressure is applied while the molds are cooled at the same time.
Surprisingly, it has been shown, which could not be foreseen without further ado, that a record made according to the present invention has practically no electrostatic attractive forces, so that the annoying dust particles in the air can hardly be attracted, as they have been up to now was the case with the usual records.
If, in fact, records are produced without image inclusion, such records also exhibit very strong electrostatic attractive forces. The inclusion of the image by the present method surprisingly makes these forces disappear, which also contributes significantly to largely eliminating the playback noise caused by dust particles.
Attaching a relatively large image to a record that is independent of the groove-free area in terms of its size, is related to the piece of music and has a sales-promoting effect as well as the advantage that the record can be better and more easily distinguished from a record with other content in terms of its content can be provided as a plate provided with known labels of limited size and attachment.
An exemplary embodiment of the method according to the invention is described below:
In the pressing process using a press mold with two matrices having grooves, the image is placed on a blank-rolled PVC film 0.75 mm thick placed in the mold and covered with an identical film. The mold is then only brought into contact pressure by means of the synthetic resin press and heated to 1203 ° C. for one minute and then pressed for one minute with cooling at a pressure of 80 tons per 25 cm plate diameter. When the temperature has dropped to a certain value, the mold opens. The material squeezed out at the edge is then removed and the plate removed from the mold.
The image can be multicolored and have different images on the front and back. It is protected against influences that do not destroy the plate itself by the transparent plate mass surrounding at least the plate section carrying the grooves. The image should preferably be produced using the gravure printing process.
A suitable synthetic resin or synthetic resin mixture, preferably transparent polyvinyl chloride (PVC), can be used as the sheet material.
