Process for the preparation of new monoazo dyes The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of monoazo dyes which, in their free acid form, have the following formula:
EMI0001.0003
wherein A is a 1-sulfo-2-naphthyl group optionally containing additional sulfonic acid groups, X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a sulfonic acid group, one of the radicals Y is a hydrogen atom or a sulfonic acid group and the other radical Y is a group of the formula:
EMI0001.0009
mean, wherein Z is a halogen atom, n is an integer and Q is a substituent containing at most 13 carbon atoms, which is bonded to the triazine nucleus through a stick material atom.
In the above formula, A can represent, for example, a 1-sulfo, 1,5-disulfo or a 1,5,7-trisulfonaphthyl group.
The letter n in the above formula preferably denotes an integer from 2 to 5, so that the group -C, 1_1H2,1_1 preferably represents an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, in particular the methyl group.
The symbol Q in the above formula can be, for example, an unsubstituted amino group or an alkyl group, preferably a lower alkyl group, e.g. B. methyl, ethyl or butyl, or an aryl group, especially a monocyclic aryl group, such as.
B. phenyl, o-, m- or p-methylphenyl or o-, m- or p-methoxyphenyl, and preferably a sulfonated phenyl group which contains at most 13 carbon atoms, represent substituted amino groups.
A preferred class of the new monoazo dyes has the following formula in the acidic form:
EMI0001.0046
wherein A has the above meaning, while one of the radicals X1 and X2 is a hydrogen atom and the other radical is a group of the formula:
EMI0001.0049
where m is an integer up to 4 and Q1 is an amino, anilino or sulfonated anilino group.
According to the invention, the new monoazo dyes are obtained by adding a cyanuric trihalide, ammonia or a primary or secondary amine with a maximum of 13 carbon atoms and a compound of the formula:
EMI0002.0005
wherein XH, SO3H or a halogen atom, one Y, H or SO3H and the other is an amino or alkylamino group, condensed with one another, and also the compound of the above formula before or after the condensation with a diazotized amine of the formula: A- NH, in which A is a 1-sulfo-2-naphthyl radical optionally containing one or more additional sulfonic acid groups, couples.
Suitable naphthols of the formula (5) are, for example, 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid, 2-amino-5-naphthol-1,7-disulfonic acid, 2-amino-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid, 2- Amino-4-chloro-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid, 2-amino-8-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid, 2-amino-1-chloro 5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid, and in particular N-alkyl derivatives thereof, such as B.
2-ethylamino, 2- / 3-oxyethylamino and 2-butylamino-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid, 2-ethylamino-4-chloro-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid, 2-propylamino-8-naphthol-3 , 6-disulfonic acid, 2-methylamino-1-chloro-5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid, 2-methylamino-5-naphthol-1,7-disulfonic acid and, above all, 2-methylamino-5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid and 2 -Methylamino-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid. As primary or secondary amines, which contain a maximum of 13 carbon atoms,
are aliphatic and aromatic amines, such as. B. methylamine, dimethylamine, ethylamine, diethylamine, iso-propylamine, butylamine, mono- and di- (ss-oxy-ethyl) amine, benzylamine, cyclohexylamine, dodecylamine, aniline, o-, m- and p-toluidines , Aniline-o-,
-m- and -p-sulfonic acids, p-aminoacetanilide, o-, m- and p-anisidines, o-, m- and p-chloroanilines, aniline-o-, -m- and -p-carboxylic acids, N-methylaniline , N-ethyl ania, piperidine, o-, m- and p-nitroanilines, m-amino benzotrifluoride, 1- and 2-naphthylamines,
1-naphthylamine-4-, -5-, -6-, -7-sulfonic acids and m- and p-aminobenzoic acids. If the coupling takes place after the condensation with the cyanuric halide, it is preferably carried out under weakly acidic or neutral conditions at the lowest possible temperature, preferably at a temperature of less than 10 ° C., in order to reduce the formation of side reactions to a minimum and in particular to reduce the loss of the halogen atom attached to the triazine ring due to hydrolysis.
The coupling of a diazotized 2-naphthylamine-1-sulfonic acid, which may contain additional sulfonic acid groups, with a naphthol of the above formula (5) is preferably carried out in a strongly alkaline medium. However, the coupling with an N-acyl derivative of such a naphthol, for example the acetyl derivative thereof, can also be carried out under weakly acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline conditions, whereupon the acyl group is removed by hydrolysis, for example by heating with aqueous mineral acid.
The new dyes can also be obtained by first preparing a monoazo compound which, in its acidic formula, corresponds to the following formula:
EMI0002.0086
wherein A and X have the above meaning, while one of the radicals Y., a hydrogen atom or a sulfonic acid group - and the other radical Y, a dihalo-s-triazinylamino or an N- (dihalo-s-triazinyl) -alkylamino group, and then this monoazo compound with 1 mol of ammonia or a primary or secondary amine which contains not more than 13 carbon atoms, reacts.
The monoazo compounds of the formula (6) can be prepared either by condensation of a cyanuric halide with 1 mol of a corresponding monoazo compound or by coupling a diazotized, aromatic, primary amine which does not contain any hydroxyl groups with a naphthol of the formula:
EMI0002.0103
where X and Y, which have the above meanings, he will hold.
These reactions are preferably carried out in the presence of an acid-binding agent, expediently in the presence of an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate. It is expedient to work under such conditions that the final product still contains a single chlorine or bromine atom on the triazine nucleus, that is to say, for example, in an organic solvent or preferably at a relatively low temperature in an aqueous medium.
The new monoazo dyes can be isolated from the medium using conventional methods. So you can z. B. with a salt that is added to the neutralized reaction mixture, salt out and filter the precipitated dye. Ka lium and sodium salts are suitable for this purpose. The filtered dye can, if desired, be dried after adding an extender. Drying is preferably carried out at a moderate temperature, e.g. B. at a temperature of 50 and 80 C.
The new monoazo dyes are valuable dyes for cellulose textiles, provided that they are applied in conjunction with an acid-binding agent, for example, according to the method of English Patent No. 797946, according to which the dyed textile material is post-treated with an acid-binding agent, or after a related one Method according to which an acid-binding agent is applied before or during the treatment of the textile material with the dye.
If the new monoazo dyes are applied in the manner mentioned, red to orange dyeings of good lightfastness, excellent washfastness and, in particular, good washfastness in the presence of hypochlorite bleaches are obtained. Compared to dyes of a similar shade, as described in the said British patent, the new dyes have the advantage that they are chemically stable in acid-binding agents, aqueous solutions.
Thus, thickened printing pastes which contain the new monoazo dyes and an acid binding agent are particularly suitable for the printing process which is described in said British patent. Furthermore, hues which have been obtained with the dyes of the preferred class according to the above formula (3) show little or no bleeding into the neighboring white areas of the cellulose material, provided that the same is washed. This also applies if the washing process takes place in the presence of hypochlorite.
In the following example, parts mean parts by weight.
Example A solution of 78.1 parts of the trisodium salt of 2,4-dichloro-6- @ N-methyl-N- [5'-oxy-6'- (1 ", 5" -disulfonaphth-2 "-ylazo) -7'-sulfonaphth-2 '@ - yl] - amino @ -s-triazine, which is obtained according to the information below, in 1000 parts of water is mixed with a solution of 19.5 parts of the Sodium salt of aniline-3-sulfonic acid in 400 parts of water sets ver.
The mixture is stirred for 48 hours at a temperature of 35 to 40 ° C., the pH being maintained at 7 by adding dilute sodium carbonate solution. The product is isolated by pouring the solution into alcohol and filtering it. The filter cake is washed with 200 parts of acetone and dried at 60.degree.
If this dye is applied to cotton by the methods mentioned above, orange shades of good fastness to washing and excellent fastness to bleaching treatments with sodium hydropochlorite are obtained.
The dichlorotriazinyl compound is obtained by a neutral, aqueous solution of the obtained by coupling diazotized 2-naphthylamine-1,5-disulfonic acid with 2 N-methyl-acetamido-2-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid and hydrolysis to remove the acetyl group Stir the aminoazo compound with 1 to 1.1 mol of cyanuric chloride at a temperature of 0 to 5 C until
until one no longer perceives an unchanged aminoazo compound.
Similar orange dyes are obtained if the dichlorotriazinyl compounds listed in column I of the table below are reacted with the corresponding amino compound listed in column 11 of the table.
EMI0003.0046
If the dichlorotriazinyl compound used in the above example is replaced by 2,4-dichloro-6- @ N-methyl-N- [8'-oxy-7 '- (1 ", 5" -disulfonaphth-2 "-ylazo) - 6' -sulfonaphth-2'-yl] -amino @ -s-triazine, the result is a scarlet-red dye of good fastness to washing and excellent fastness to bleaching treatments with sodium hypochlorite.
