La fig. 1 en est une vue en perspective, des couteaux que présente l'appareil étant en position d'escamotage;
Apparatus for automatically stripping reels without edges of the wire they carry
The present invention relates to an apparatus for automatically stripping rimless spools of the wire which they carry.
In the manufacture of synthetic yarns and in other textile operations, a considerable amount of yarn is wound on spools and, for various reasons, is never fully used, the spools being only partially stripped. Before the spool can be used again, this unused thread must be removed. In the past practice, unused yarn was removed by hand, the operator passing a sharp knife longitudinally along the spool to cut the yarn so that it fell away. This process has several drawbacks. One of those drawbacks is that it is extremely slow. In addition, the knife used to cut the thread is liable to nick the surface of the spool, thereby causing the spool to damage the wire subsequently wound on it.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.
The apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises two knives capable of being moved horizontally, according to a reciprocating movement, one of the knives being furthermore displaced vertically and automatically during said reciprocating movement, of the connecting members. between said knives, arranged so that said horizontal movements are simultaneous, a coil support and synchronized drive members actuating said support and the knives according to a determined program.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view thereof, of the knives presented by the device being in the retracted position;
fig. 2 is a perspective view on a slightly larger scale of part of the apparatus, showing the coils at the workstations just before the actuation of the knives, and
fig. 3 is a partial perspective view showing a mechanism which advances a spool holder.
On a base 11 are fixed supports 12 and 13 which support two spaced circular plates 16 and 17.
A reel 18 for supporting and driving coils 20 of a well known type is fixed to a shaft 21 rotating in supports 12 and 13. Reel 18 has a number of notches 22 for receiving coils 20 from. a feed corridor 26.
The coils 20 carry unused thread 27 which must be removed. The notches 22 have a shape such that the coils 20 are taken from the passage 26 and that they are placed on an outlet passage 27 fixed to the plates 16 and 17 and to the base 11, the coils 20 falling on the passage 27 when the notches 22 holding the spool reach a predetermined position.
The rotational movement of the drum 18 takes place step by step using a distribution wheel 30 (fig. 3) fixed to the shaft 21 and a lever 31 rotating on the shaft 21 and actuated by a fluid cylinder 32 of a known type. A pin 35 serves as a hinge on the lever 31 to a pawl 36, carrying a roller 37 which engages teeth 41 of the wheel 30 to rotate the wheel and the reel 18 when the cylinder 32 is actuated to a certain extent. direction. The wheel 30 has a number of holes 42 intended to receive a pin 43 pushed by a spring to normally prevent the rotation of the wheel 30 and the reel 18.
This pin is released from the wheel 30 by the movement of a lever 47 articulated on a plate 48 fixed to the base 11.
Bushings 55, 56, 57 and 58 (fig. 1 and 2) serve as a sliding support for two rods 62 and 63, the rear ends of which are joined by a spacer 64 which is rigidly fixed to these rods so that they slide. together in the bearings 55 to 58. A hydraulic cylinder 68, attached to a plate 69 mounted on the pedestal 11, actuates a piston rod 70 which is attached to the end of the rod 62 to impart a reciprocating motion. comes to the rods 62 and 63 in the pads 55 to 58. The rods 62 and 63 carry knives which cut the wire 27.
A block 75 fixed to the rod 62 carries a heavy knife 76 which is intended to come into contact with the wire 27 and to cut most of it when the rod 62 is moved in the pads 55 and 56. The knife 76 comes to the fore. contact of the spool 20, so that this knife does not cut the wire which is located between the lower end of the knife and the spool 20. The cut made by the knife 76 can be qualified as coarse and is of interest to the greatest part. thread that is on the spool.
A housing 79 attached to the rod 63 carries a sliding shaft 80 pushed by a spring, to which is attached a disc-shaped knife which is intended to cut the thread which has escaped the knife 76. The shaft 80 exits from the top of the housing. 79, and it is fixed to a bracket 82 at the upper end of which is mounted a roller 83.
The roller 83 rolls on a rail 84 carried by supports 85 and 86 which are attached to the pads 57 and 58, respectively. The upper surface of the rail 84 forms a cam 90 which allows the knife 81 to descend to come into contact with the spool 20 when the leading edge of the knife 81 reaches the end of the spool 20. The knife 81 is lifted out of contact. with the coil 20 each time it reaches the end of its stroke, when the roller 83 leaves the horizontal surface 90 and rises along the inclined surfaces at the ends of the surface 90.
The automatic operation of the device described is obtained by a number of limit switches which are closed by various elements of the apparatus when these elements are moved back and forth by the cylinder 68. When the knives arrive near the end of their cutting stroke, the spacer 64 comes into contact with a lever 91 of a switch 92 which it raises, a switch which is mounted so as to admit a pressurized fluid, coming from a source 95, into the cylinder 32, to rotate the lever 31 and rotate the reel 18 by one step and move the coils a distance equal to the distance between the knives 76 and 81.
Just before the switch 92 closes, a bolt 96 screwed into a bar 97 fixed to the spacer 64 comes into contact with the lever 47 and rotates this lever so as to release the spindle 43 from the distribution wheel 30 to that the rotation can take place. Immediately after actuation
of the switch 92, the spacer 64 comes into contact with a switch 99 which it closes, this switch controls the arrival of a pressurized fluid from a source 100 to the cylinder 68 so that the rods 62 and 63 and the knives 76 and 81 are returned to the retracted position shown in the drawing.
When the knives reach the position shown in fig. 1, the coils having been moved one step, the block 75 closes a switch 101 attached to the pad 56 and connected so as to bring the fluid from the source 100 into the cylinder 68 in order to further advance the rods 62 and 63 and the knives 76 and 81. In this way, the knives 76 and 81 are driven in a continuous reciprocating motion, and the spools are fed to the workstations where the thread which they carry is cut during the advance phase of the reciprocating movement of the knives.
In service, an operator places by hand on the feed passage 26 the spools 20 on which there is unused wire 27. The spools 20 are hooked by the notches 22 of the reel 18, while it is rotating. not as described above.
Each spool is stopped at the first station opposite the knife 76, after which the cylinder 68 advances the rods 62 and 63 and the knives 76 and 81, the knife 76 making a rough cut in the wire. When the knives come to the end of the cutting stroke, bolt 96 contacts lever 47 and rotates it to disengage spindle 43 from wheel 30, and immediately thereafter, spacer 64 lifts lever up. switch 91, which brings the pressurized fluid from the source 95 into the cylinder 32 to rotate the reel 18 by one step and bring the spool located under the knife 76 to the other station under the knife 81.
Shortly after, the spacer 64 closes the switch 99, which causes the pressurized fluid from the source 100 to the cylinder 68 so as to bring back the rods 62, 63 and the knives 76 and 81.
When the knives reach the position shown in the drawing, block 75 turns on switch 101 to again actuate cylinder 68 and advance the knives again. While the knife 81 advances, the roller 83 descends on the cam 90, thus lowering the flat lower face of the knife 81 in contact with the spool 20. The continued movement of the knife 81 cuts the thread which has escaped the knife 76. Thus, The device operates fully automatically.
