Process for dyeing or printing cellulose textile materials with esters of leuco vat dyes It has been found that, in a particularly advantageous manner, cellulose textile materials can be dyed or printed with leuco vat dyes whose hydroxyl groups formed by reduction of the keto group are esterified with at least one carboxylic acid has a water-solubilizing group,
if an alkaline agent and a hydrosulfite, formaldehyde sulfoxylate (Rongalit [registered trademark]) or thiourea dioxide are used in any stage of the dyeing or printing process before the oxidation.
The leuco vat dyes which can be used according to the invention can be derived from the anthracinone, perylene and indigoid series.
Examples include: the acylaminoanthraquinones, such as 1,5-di-benzoylaminoanthraquinone, the condensation products of 1 mole of isophthaloyl chloride with 2 moles of 1-aminoanthraquinone or 1-amino-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone or of 1 mole of cyanuric chloride with 2 moles 1- or 2-amino anthraquinane and 1 mole of aniline or of 1
Moles of 1,3-dichloroquinazoline with 2 moles of 1-aminoanthraquinone, also more highly condensed ring systems, such as pyranthrone, anthanthrone, pyrenequinone or dibenzpyrenquinone, as well as vat dyes containing hetero rings condensed on or in, for example indanthrone, flavanthrone, N, N-diethyl-dipyrazole-anthrone,
5-Benzoylaminoanthrapyrimidine orPe.rylen- tetracarboxylic acid diimide or! Perinon dyes obtained, for example, by condensation of naphthalenetetracarboxylic acid with 2 mol of phenylenediamine. From the series of indigoid dyes, indigo, tetrabromoindigo or 'nioindigo should be mentioned.
At least two oxo groups in rings: these dyes must be in a reduced state and esterified with a carboxylic acid whose acyl radical has at least one water-solubilizing group, for example a quaternary ammonium group, but preferably at least one Has sulfo group.
The acyl radical can be, for example, aliphatic or heterocyclic, but in particular aromatic, in nature. Acyl radicals of the formula are of particular interest

where n is an integer with a value of at most 3. The radicals of the formulas are examples of acyl residues

called.
Such leuco esters can be prepared by known methods, for example by reacting the leuco vat dyes with the corresponding benzoic acid sulfonic acid halides in the presence of tertiary organic bases. The reduction of the vat dyes and esterification can also be carried out in one step by reacting the vat dye with the benzoic acid sulfohalide, for example in pyridine, with the addition of a reducing agent, in particular copper powder.
These leuco esters are soluble in water and are extremely stable both in substance and in neutral solution.
In the presence of alkaline agents, especially alkali hydroxides, the leuco esters which can be used in accordance with the invention can be split fairly easily into the free leuco compounds.
The amount of reducing agent can vary within wide limits. In general, a significantly smaller amount of reducing agent is sufficient than that required for dyeing with vat dyes by the conventional methods. The coloring can take place, for example, after the Ausziehver drive. In this case the material to be dyed is expediently treated at a moderately elevated temperature, in particular between 20 to 90 ', in a solution of the leuco ester to which the alkali, in particular an alkali hydroxide, and one of the reducing agents is added.
The oxidation of the fixed leuco compound and the aftertreatment, such as rinsing, boiling after-soaping, can be carried out according to the methods customary in vat dyeing.
A particularly interesting embodiment of the process according to the invention consists in that an aqueous solution of a leuco ester which can be used according to the invention is applied by padding. For this purpose, the goods to be dyed are impregnated with the leuco ester solution, preferably cold or at an only moderately elevated temperature, and squeezed off as usual.
It is expedient to squeeze in such a way that the impregnated product retains 50 to 140% of its initial weight in dye solution. The treatment according to the invention with an alkaline agent and one of the reducing agents mentioned is carried out after the impregnation, expediently after a previous drying.
For this purpose, the pre-treated material is impregnated, squeezed off and steamed to fix the dye with an aqueous solution containing the alkaline agent and the reducing agent. The aftertreatment, namely rinsing with cold water, oxidation, optionally with the addition of an oxidizing agent such as. B. hydrogen peroxide or sodium perborate, acidification and boiling re-soaping are carried out in the usual way.
The dyeing can also be done using the single bath process, that is, the dye, alkaline agent and reducing agent can be padded in the same bath. Instead of steaming or dry heating, the fixation can also be achieved by passing the impregnated fabric through molten metal (Wood's alloy).
Instead of impregnation, according to the present process, the specified n, n dyes can also be applied to the materials to be colored by printing. In this case, a printing ink is used which contains the leuco ester mentioned, one of the reducing agents mentioned, e.g. B. a hydrosulfite, an alkaline agent such as potassium carbonate, and a thickener.
Excellent dyeings and prints are obtained on cellulosic textile materials according to the present process.
The use of potassium sulfite when printing with an acidic ester of a leuco vat dye is from US Pat. No. 1903,871 and from British Pat. No. 337846, cf. Example 4, known. According to this known method, however, the leuco ester is cleaved in the presence of an oxidizing agent. The dyeings obtained by this process do not meet today's requirements in any way.
In contrast, the dyeings obtained according to the invention are distinguished by great color strength and excellent levelness.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. The parts by weight are related to the parts of space as g to ml.
Example 1 14 parts of the dye, shown according to German patent specification No. 697431, Example 1, by condensation of dimethoxydibenzanthrone with benzoic acid m-sulfochloride in pyridine with the addition of copper powder, are in 1000 < / B> parts of water dissolved. A cotton fabric is impregnated with this solution so that it increases by 75% of its weight and then dried.
The fabric is then impregnated with a solution containing 50 parts by volume of 30% sodium hydroxide solution and 35 parts of sodium hydrosulphite per 1000 parts by volume, squeezing to 100% weight gain, and the dyeing at 100% for 1/2 to 2 minutes. rinses thoroughly in cold water, oxidizes at 40 with a solution,
which contains 4 parts by volume of hydrogen peroxide 30% per 1000 parts by volume, rinses, acidifies with a solution that contains 4 parts by volume of 40% acetic acid per 1000 parts, rinses and soaps at the boil. A strong green dyeing with excellent fastness properties is obtained.
