Up-and-over door The present invention relates to an overhead door intended, in particular, to block garage openings. It is characterized in that it comprises two parallel vertical consoles, each of said consoles, fixed to the upper part and to the respective lateral edge of the door, being provided in its middle part with a hollow lever arm with double bend. horizontal and vertical, the vertical bent part being oriented perpendicular to the door panel and in the direction of the room ceiling,
each of the lever arms being capable of journaling in the vicinity of its vertical bent part on a horizontal pivot axis, a bent support being fixed in the upper end of each of the bent hollow arms, the horizontal branch of each of said supports, provided with adjustment holes, being intended for the suspension of a counterweight capable of tilting on its suspension axis, the whole being arranged so that the ratio of the lengths of each of the lever arms between the pivot axis and the door, on the one hand, between the pivot axis and the point of suspension of the counterweight and the mass thereof, on the other hand,
soitt established so that the door is balanced in the vicinity of the middle position of the path traversed by the lever arm, so that the maneuver of opening and closing of the door does not require any effort from the user.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the overhead door applied to a garage door, object of the invention, and several variants, given by way of example.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the door in three positions, namely: in solid lines in the closed position, in phantom at one point in the open position and in phantom two dots in the intermediate position of balanced. Fig. 2 is a plan view of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial side view of the lever arm shown in solid lines in FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is, - on a smaller scale, an elevational view of a variant of the lever arm shown in FIG. 1.
The overhead door, in the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, comprises a panel 1 drawn in section in the closed position and abutting, at its upper part, against the interior facing of the bay and, at its lower part, against a battue of the floor.
At the upper part and on the inner face of each of the side edges of the panel 1 is fixed, by means of bolts 2, a bracket 3, for example of U-shaped or L-shaped section. Each of the brackets 3 is provided in its middle part of a hollow lever arm 4, for example of rec tangular section, said arm having a double bend, horizontal then vertical, the vertical bent part being oriented perpendicular to the panel 1 and in the direction of the garage ceiling.
Each of the lever arms 4 is capable of pivoting in the vicinity of its vertically angled part on a horizontal pivot axis 5 sealed in the respective side wall of the garage. A support 6, of bent shape, is introduced by one of its ends into each of the mouths of the upper part of the lever arm 4, each of said supports being fixed in the respective arm by means of bolts 7.
The horizontal branch 8 of each of the supports 6 is provided with adjustment holes 9 for fixing in one of them, by means of a bolt 10, of a counterweight 11, said counterweight being intended to balance the panel 1. Door.
Each of the arms the lever 4 is, moreover, provided with reinforcing angles, namely: an angle 12 located in the angle of the horizontal part of the arm and an angle 13 located in the angle of the vertical part of said arm .
The choice of the dimensions of the two lever arms and their counterweights is determined by the ratio of the lengths of each of the lever arms between the pivot axis and the door on the one hand, between the pivot axis and the point suspension of the counterweight as well as of the mass of the latter, on the other hand, so that the door is balanced in the vicinity of the median position of the path traveled by the lever arm,
so that the opening and closing maneuver of the door does not require any effort on the user.
By tilting door 1 in the direction of arrow f (fig. 1), it will pivot on axis 5 to reach the horizontal position at the top of the bay, passing through an intermediate position, shown in phantom lines. at two points, in which the door itself remains in equilibrium without having to be maintained. It should be noted that the weight of the door is in equilibrium when the counterweight is located in the middle of its travel. An arc of a circle f 'indicates in FIG. 1 the path followed by the upper edge of the panel 1 from its closed position to that of open.
It is obvious that the angle between the horizontal and vertical angled parts of the lever arm may vary depending on the dimensions of the door.
The lever arm, in a variant shown in FIG. 4, could be formed of two tubes 14, 14 'superimposed and bent in the manner described for the arm 4 (fig. 1 to 3). These two tubes, the spacing of which would correspond to the passage of the pivot axis 5 and that of the elbow support 6, would be fixed, for example by welding, on the console 3. It is obvious that the spacing of said tubes could be provided by means of spacers, not shown in the drawing.
In the case of garage doors of large dimensions, the lever arms of the tilting door described could be consolidated, for example by means of stays or struts. In a second variant, the axis lines are represented by AB and CD (fig. 1 and 3) and A'-B 'and C'-D' (fig. 4) the orientation of said shrouds which could be fixed, on the one hand, on the bracket 3 and, on the other hand, on the lever arms 4 and 14, 14 'respectively, in the vicinity of the pivot axis 5.
The tilting door described presents; in particular, the advantage of the simplicity of its construction and of allowing the adjustment of the "position of the counterweights as a function of the speed of movement of the door.
