<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Calendar watch The object of the present invention is a calendar watch comprising an aperture dial under which are housed two indicator members driven by the movement, one of them being a date indicator.
Calendar watches of this type are already known. The indications carried by the indicating members are generally numbers or letters. The indications of each of said members appear one beside the other in said window, which makes it necessary to give the latter sufficient dimensions so that these indications are clearly visible simultaneously.
On the other hand, menstrual calendars are known. Some of them are formed of a table carrying rows of dates and a locating or measuring member which extends above the table and which is movable relative to the latter. In certain cases, said table is circular, the locating member is movable in rotation, it is transparent and may have colored areas. The use of such a calendar implies knowledge of the date and its two elements, locator and table, are necessary.
The object of the present invention is to incorporate a menstrual calendar into a watch without excessively increasing its dimensions and so that the indications of this calendar appear as clearly and discreetly as possible.
For this, the calendar watch according to the invention is characterized in that the other indicator member is an indicator of menstrual periods and in that the indications that it carries are formed by tinted zones distributed around the periphery of this member. and capable of appearing in said window at the same time as the date indications.
One embodiment of the watch forming the subject of the invention is shown by way of example in the appended drawing, of which FIG. 1 is a top plan view thereof, some paorties being cut away and others being removed., And FIG. 2 a partial axial section.
The watch shown in the drawing is a ladies' watch. It comprises a round case 1 containing a movement.
It also comprises a dial 2. A carriageway 3 and an hours cannon wheel 4 coaxial with the movement respectively carry a minute hand and an hour hand (not shown) extending above the dial 2. A wheel 5 is driven on a bearing that has the wheel 4 at its lower part. This wheel 5 extends above a plate 6 presented by said movement and it is engaged with a wheel 7 with a diameter double that of the wheel 5 and pivoted on said plate. The hours cannon wheel 4 is driven at the rate of one revolution in twelve hours by a pinion 8, integral with a timer wheel 9 in engagement with the, carriageway 3, so that the wheel 7 performs one revolution in twenty -four hours.
Between the plate 6 and the dial 2 are placed two indicator members 11, 14, the indications of which appear in a window 10 presented by the dial 2. One of these indicator members is constituted by a ring 11, a rim 12 of which slides in a groove. circular 13 of plate 6, coaxial with the movement. The ring 11 extends under the window 10 so as to occupy all the space visible through this window. This ring 11 is driven in rotation by the wheel 7. For this,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a plate 16, integral with this wheel, carries a pivoting pawl 17 subjected to the action of a spring 18.
This pawl 17 cooperates with an internal toothing 19 that the ring 11 has, so that when the wheel 7 is driven by the wheel 5 in the anti-clockwise direction, the pawl 17 engages with the toothing 19 and advances said ring 11 by one step for each complete rotation of wheel 7. On the other hand, when wheel 7 is driven in the direction of clockwise, pawl 17 can be retracted in front of the teeth of toothing 19 without dragging the ring 11.
This device, known per se, makes it possible to advance the ring 11 at will by manipulating alternately from front to back and from rear to front a winding crown 20, previously brought into the time-setting position to drive a Timer return 21 engaged with the timer wheel 9. The ring 11 carries on its upper face the dates from 1 to 31, which may appear successively in the window 10. The teeth 19 comprises thirty-one teeth.
The wheel 7 and the pawl 17 are arranged so that every day, around 24 hours, the ring 11 is rotated at an angle such that a new date appears in the window 10.
The watch described comprises, under the dial 2, a second indicator member. This is formed by a transparent synthetic material disc 14 which is mounted idle on the barrel 4. This disc extends above the plate 6 to the periphery of the movement. Its outer edge covers the ring 11, so that the indications carried by this ring 11 are visible in the window 10 only by transparency through the disc 14. The latter has a thickened central part, in which a toothing is formed. outer 15 to twenty-eight teeth.
A plate 22 placed above the pawl 17 and integral in rotation with the wheel 7, has a finger 23 which can engage with said toothing 15 on each complete rotation of the wheel 7 to advance the disc 14 by one step. .
At its periphery, the disc 14 has a second external toothing 24 which extends close to the walls of the housing 1. This toothing 24 cooperates with a jumper 25 fixed to the housing 1, and which normally maintains the disc 14 in a determined angular position. . An elastic corrector lever 29, which is subjected to the action of a pusher 26 mounted on the side of the housing 1, makes it possible to act on the disc 14. The pusher 26 is accessible from the outside. By pressing on it, the lever 29 is actuated. It is thus possible to advance the disc 14 at will, as long as its teeth are not in engagement with the finger 23.
The disc 14 has a first colored zone 27 whose dimensions are such that it can fill the entire visible field in the window 10 for one day, on each complete rotation of the disc 14. This disc 14 has other paft two other zones. colored narrow and elongated 28, which extend on either side of zone 27, each in an arc of a crown coaxial with disc 14, said arc covering six twenty-eighths of the circumference of said crown.
By means of the pusher 26, the disc 14 can be adjusted relative to the ring 11, so that the colored zone appears in the window 10 on a determined date. After this adjustment, one of the zones 28 will appear in part in the window 10 during the six days following said date, in the form of a border located in the margin of the date indication of the corresponding days. Then, for fifteen days, no colored zone will be visible in the window, then part of the other zone 28 will appear there for six days.
On the twenty-eighth day after the date that zone 27 was brought into window 10, that zone will reappear there.
The watch described therefore makes it possible to easily identify certain particular days during a period of twenty-eight days.
It is known that the laws of Knaus and Ogino make it possible to determine which are the fertile days and which are the sterile days of the menstrual cycle of the woman, according to the date of the end of said cycle. This determination is based on the fact that ovulation occurs on the fourteenth day before said date. Thus, in the watch described, the zones 28 indicate some of the sterile days of a menstrual period, when the zone 27 has been adjusted to the date corresponding to the start of said period. The length of these zones 28 is limited to six twenty-eighths of the circumference, to take account, among other things, of possible variations in the duration of said periods.
It is clear that in one variant, these zones can extend over another portion of said circumference. In addition, the zones 28 could be of different lengths.
Moreover, instead of the toothing 15 having twenty-eight teeth, it could also, in another embodiment, have a different number, so that the disc 14 would perform a complete rotation in a number of days different from twenty-eight and would then signal sterile days in a menstrual cycle other than twenty-eight days. Thus, depending on the case, the number of teeth of the set of teeth 15 could be between twenty and one and thirty-six.
Finally, in another embodiment, in which the teeth 14 would have a number of teeth at least equal to thirty-six, the periphery of the disc 14, instead of having a single zone 27, could have several of different colors. and corresponding respectively to menstrual cycles of different lengths. In this case, the disc 14 should carry a mark to be brought into the window 10 at the start of each new cycle. As for zones 28, they would then be replaced
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
by pairs of simple continuous lines, concentric with the disc and of a color corresponding to that of the different zones 27.
Thus, for example, there could be a yellow box on the twenty-fourth day after said benchmark, a blue box on the twenty-sixth day, a red box on the twenty-eighth day, a green box on the thirtieth day, and a brown box on the twenty-eighth day. thirty-second day, corresponding respectively to cycles of twenty-four, twenty-six, twenty-eight, thirty and thirty-two days. The sterile days corresponding to each of these cycles would then be indicated respectively by pairs of yellow, blue, red, green and brown lines.
One of the lines of each of the said pairs would then precede the box of the same color, so as to indicate the sterile days at the end of the cycles of length corresponding to that indicated by the said box, and the other of the lines of each of the said pairs would be plotted from said mark, to indicate the sterile days at the start of the corresponding cycles.
As the same areas of the disc 14 should have lines of different colors, it would suffice to draw the lines in question according to concentric circles on one of the faces of the disc 14.
To know her sterile days, a woman would only have to refer to the color corresponding to the average length of her cycles.
The zones 28 as well as the lines described can be obtained advantageously by transfer. In all the cases envisaged, the indications carried by the transparent member are superimposed on those of the date indicator member, so that said watch can have a window having approximately the same dimensions as those of conventional calendar watches. The indications of this transparent organ are discreet and do not detract from the appearance of the watch.
