Man erhält so Lactamlösungen geringer Konzentration.
B. niedere Monoalkohole.

Process for the extraction of low molecular weight fractions from poly-e-caprolactam granules or chips
As is known, poly-caprolactam granules are freed from low-molecular-weight fractions, such as monomers and oligomers, by washing, usually using hot water, before they are used in spinning heads or in the injection molding process. This so-called schnitzel washing, which is known from Swiss patent no. 230271, is generally carried out in a layered process. The main disadvantage of this procedure is the fact that the wash water that is produced contains the extract only in a low concentration, so that recovery is very expensive.
In addition, the layering process naturally has disadvantages, such as the unevenness of the residual content of the low molecular weight components, etc.
It has now been found that poly-e-caprolaotam granules can be continuously freed from their low molecular weight components by sliding the granules through a vertical tube and extracting them in countercurrent with solvents. The implementation of an embodiment of the method according to the invention will be explained with reference to a drawing.
Granulate 2 'is filled through a vertically arranged pipe 1 into the extraction pipe via an entry device 2 and extraction agent is pumped into the extraction chamber from below via line 4 and annular channel 5, which is withdrawn via line 6 after the low molecular weight components have been taken up. The granulate is removed from the extraction space by a discharge device 3.
By letting the granulate slide through the extraction tube as a compact layer, you have the ability to set the dwell time and thus the degree of extraction as required. If, in addition to the most complete extraction of the low molecular weight fractions, the aqueous solution thereof is to be obtained as concentrated as possible at the same time, it is advantageous in a further development of the process according to the invention to let the amount of extractant flowing through the tube at certain levels per unit of time decrease from bottom to top.
To achieve this, extractant is taken from the tube at different levels. One of these extraction points 7 is shown in the drawing. At this point, some of the extractants added through line 4 are withdrawn via line 8. In this case, however, it must be ensured that the extraction agent covers the entire granulate layer up to the top in the extraction space. This can e.g. This can be done, for example, by the correct ratio of the amount of extract medium supplied to the amount withdrawn at the intermediate withdrawal points, which means that it must be ensured that the supply amount is always greater than the withdrawal amount at the intermediate withdrawal points.
Because the amount of extractant flowing through the extraction chamber and thus the granules from bottom to top per unit of time decreases, it is possible to enrich both the extract content in the upper part of the column and the granules with the large amounts of extractant in the lower part of the column at this point to withdraw only a small amount of low molecular weight fractions.
Of course, the extraction can also take place at a higher temperature, for which the extractant is preheated and the apparatus is heated by a heating means. If the extraction is to be carried out above the boiling point of the extractant, this must be done under pressure. In this case, the granulate must be introduced through a pressure lock.
In order to make the effect of the extraction as optimal as possible, it is advantageous to either ensure that the extractant has the same temperature over the entire height of the column or else that the temperature increases from bottom to top. It is also advantageous to keep the ratio of pipe diameter to pipe length not smaller than 1: 5, advantageously about 1:40. These measures can practically avoid the harmful cross-currents caused by temperature differences and differences in density of the extractant. The ratio of pipe length to diameter should also not be too large, that is to say advantageously not greater than about 100: 1.
It is clear that the optimal residence time of the granulate depends on the solubility of the extract in the solvent, on the extraction temperature, but also on the diffusion rate of the extracted substances in the polyamide and thus of course on the grain size of the granulate.
Example 1 illustrates the mode of operation of an extraction in which the amount of extractant is not reduced from bottom to top. Lactam solutions of low concentration are obtained in this way.
Water is preferably used as the extraction agent for reasons of cheapness, but all solvents which dissolve the low molecular weight fractions without damaging the polymer can be used, e.g. B. lower monoalcohols.
Examples
1. In a vertical tube 4 m long and 150 mm in diameter, poly-e-caprolactam granules with a diameter of 2.5 mm and a height of 2.5 mm are extracted in countercurrent with water at 95 °. The discharge rate is 6 kg of granules based on the dry weight, which corresponds to a residence time of about 7 1/2 hours. The content of extractable fractions falls from 10.2 to 1.3 percent by weight. Pure water is fed into the bottom of the tube from a level vessel and 9.3 llh e-caprolactam solution with a content of 6.2 tons of extract is drawn off at the top of the tube by means of a metering pump.
2. In an extraction apparatus 8 m long with six parallel vertical tubes 150 mm in diameter, poly-E-caprolactam chips with a grain size of 2.5 mm are extracted with water at 95 as in Example 1. The pipes are provided with an intermediate tap for the Laotam solution at a height of 2 m from the lower end. At the bottom, a total of 22kg / h of schnitzel (based on the dry state) is evenly withdrawn from all six tubes.
The extractable content drops from 10.5 to 0.50 / 0. Pure water is fed into the bottom of the pipes from a level vessel and a total of 9 lh of a 22010 igen ± -caprolactam solution is evenly withdrawn from each pipe at the top of the pipes by means of a 6-fold pump. Through the intermediate tapping, a quantity of 16 liters of a 2.20% solution is also drawn off by means of a 6-fold pump.
