Process for the production of dyes
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new dyes of the perylenetetracarbons äu rediimid series, which is characterized in that perylen3 4, 9, 10-tetracarboxylic acid, a functional derivative or a ring-substituted derivative thereof at elevated temperature with aromatic amines containing phenolic hydroxyl groups to implement.
The new dyes have the following formula:
EMI1.1
where R is a hydroxy radical, preferably a hydroxybenzene radical, and the perylene radical can be substituted, for example, by halogen atoms or alkoxy groups.
It is preferred to use 1 mole of perylene 3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid or its derivatives and 2 moles of a primary arylamine containing phenolic hydroxyl groups.
Examples of suitable hydroxyaryl compounds are the hydroxyanunobenzenes, for example l-amino-3- or, in particular, 4-hydroxy-benzene, 1-amino-3-hydroxy-4-carboxy-benzene or 4-amino-4'- or -3'-hydroxy-diphenyl. Examples of hydroxy compounds from the naphthalene series are 1-amino-4-, -5-, -6- or -7-hydroxy-naphthalene or 2-amino-5- or -6-hydroxy-naphthalene.
The condensation of the starting compounds can be carried out by simply heating the reactants for some time to a higher temperature, preferably to temperatures between 150 to 2000, conveniently in the presence of dehydrating agents, such as. B. zinc chloride. The reaction can be carried out without a diluent or in an excess e.g. B. the aminohydroxy-benzene as a diluent or in the presence of a high-boiling inert diluent, for example nitrobenzene or dimethylformamide. The condensation develops particularly smoothly when using water as a diluent. In this case, the reaction temperature is preferably between 120 and 2000.
After the perylene-3, 4, 9, 10-tetracarboxylic acid used has fully reacted, it is advisable to remove excess amine from the condensation product by treating it with dilute acids, expediently in the heat. Since the condensation products contain two phenolic hydroxyl groups, they are soluble in aqueous alkali hydroxide solutions. They can be reprecipitated from these solutions by acidification.
The products obtained according to the process are valuable pigments which, after conversion into a finely divided form, can be used for coloring organic products, such as. B. paints, plastic masses, as printing inks or for spin dyeing of synthetic fibers, such as. B. viscose rayon, acetate silk, nylon or polyesters are suitable. Brilliant red dyeings of excellent lightfastness and migrationfastness are obtained.
The conversion into a finely divided form can be achieved by dissolving the crude pigment in dilute alkali metal hydroxide and precipitating it by adding acids or, advantageously, by dissolving it in concentrated sulfuric acid and precipitating it with water, by treating it with dichloroacetic acid or aromatic sulfonic acids in the presence or absence of organic diluents, furthermore by grinding in dry or aqueous moist form, expediently in the presence of an organic water-soluble or water-insoluble solvent, or by kneading or grinding the crude pigment in the presence of solid auxiliaries, e.g. B. leachable salts.
Even the combination of different methods can lead to good results. In many cases it has proven to be advantageous, for the purpose of converting it into a finely divided form, to grind the crude pigment with the substrate to be colored or a component thereof. It is entirely possible that these treatments are also associated with a change in the crystal modification.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, parts are parts by weight, percentages are percentages by weight, and temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
20 parts of water, 5.3 parts of glacial acetic acid and 3.3 parts of 1-amino-4-hydroxybenzene are placed in a pressure vessel. A solution of 3.9 parts of perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride in 74 parts of 5.4% potassium hydroxide solution, prepared by heating, is added. The container is rotated at 170-175 for 10 hours. After cooling and opening, the resulting dye is isolated by filtration, cleaned of any excess base by boiling with dilute hydrochloric acid and finally redissolved from dilute potassium hydroxide solution or from concentrated sulfuric acid and dried. The yield is almost quantitative.
The pigment is suitable for coloring plastic materials as well as paints and printing inks. It produces pink tones of great clarity and very good fastness properties.
Example 2
20 parts of water, 5.3 parts of glacial acetic acid and 3.3 parts of 1-amino-4-hydroxybenzene are placed in a pressure vessel. A solution, prepared by heating, of 3.9 parts of perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride in 74 parts of 5.4% potassium hydroxide solution is added. The container is rotated at 170-175 for 10 hours. After cooling and opening, the resulting dye is isolated by filtration, purified from any excess base that may still be present by boiling with dilute hydrochloric acid and dried. The yield is almost quantitative. The dye no longer contains any unreacted perylenetetracarboxylic acid.
The dye is identical to that described in Example 1. According to the information in Example 1, it can be crystallized from sulfuric acid in needles and redissolved from dilute aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution.
Example 3
20 parts of water, 5.3 parts of glacial acetic acid and 5.6 parts of 4-amino-4'-hydroxydiphenyl are placed in a pressure vessel. A solution, prepared by heating, of 3.9 parts of perylene 3,4,9,1 10-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride in 74 parts of 5.4 4 / o strength potassium hydroxide solution is added. The container is rotated at 200-2100 for 10 hours. After cooling and opening, the resulting dye is isolated by filtration, purified from any excess base that may still be present by boiling with dilute hydrochloric acid and dried. The yield is almost quantitative. The dye no longer contains any unreacted perylenetetracarboxylic acid.
The dye is not soluble in a dilute aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution, but it evaporates very easily after the addition of sodium dithionite. He dyes cotton from a ruby red vat in very strong, clear, bluish red tones.
To achieve a clear hue in polyvinyl chloride films, the dye is advantageously subjected to grinding with solid auxiliaries. For this purpose one grinds z. B. 10 parts of dye together with 25 parts of anhydrous sodium sulfate, 4 parts of anhydrous sodium acetate, 2.5 parts of p dichlorobenzene and 0.5 parts of the condensation product of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and formaldehyde in a stainless steel drum until the last processed sample no longer results in any further increase in the clarity and color strength of the pink shade compared to the previous one.
Before grinding with solid auxiliaries, the dye can also be flipped over.
Dyeing instructions:
65 parts of polyvinyl chloride, 35 parts of dioctyl phthalate and 0.2 part of the finely divided dye obtained according to Example 1, paragraph 1, are stirred together and then rolled back and forth on a two-roll calender for 7 minutes at 140 ". A rose-red color is obtained colored film with very good light and migration fastness.
