Process for the production of disazo dyes The present invention relates to a process for the production of new orange, yellowish to bluish-tinged disazo dyes with which dyeings which are good lightfast and very good wetfastness are obtained on natural and synthetic polypeptide fibers.
It has been found that valuable disazo dyes are obtained if a tetrazotized bisaminophenyl sulfide, sulfoxide or sulfone or a tetrazotized bis (aminophenylsulfonyl) derivative of an organic diamine whose amino groups can also be part of a heterocyclic ring ,
or an aromatic dihydroxy or amino hydroxy compound, where the phenyl radicals can carry further substituents, combined in an acidic agent with 2 moles of 2-aminonaphthalene sulfonic acid amide coupling in the 1-position, the sulfamide nitrogen of which is substituted by a sulfated organic radical and the naphthalene ring of which is optionally further nonionic Substituents,
in particular in the 8-position contains a hydroxyl group.
The tetrazo components which can be used according to the invention advantageously contain no free sulfonic acid groups. However, they can have other substituents, especially those customary in azo dyes, such as halogens, alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acylamino or alkylsulfonyl groups.
Of tetrazo components which contain the benzene rings containing amino gru.ppen directly linked by a sulfur atom, the bisaminophenyl sulfides derived from divalent sulfur may be mentioned first. Such compounds can be z. B. from nitrobenzenes which contain mobile halogen atoms, produce metal sulfides by condensation with alkali and subsequent reduction of the nitro to amino groups.
Tetrazo components in which the benzene nuclei containing amino groups are linked to one another by a sulfur atom of a higher oxidation level include the bisaminophenyl sulfoxides and sulfones. This is most easily obtained by oxidizing the corresponding bisacetylaminophenyl sulfide, for example with hydrogen peroxide under milder or more energetic conditions in acetic acid solution,
and subsequent saponification to the bisaminophenyl sulfoxides or sulfones. Examples of such bisaminophenyl sulfides, sulfoxides and sulfones which can be used as tetrazo components are 4,4'-dichloro-2,2'-diamino-1,1'-diphenyl sulfide, 4,4'-diamino-diphenyl sulfone, 4,4 '-Trifluoromethyl-2,2'-diamino-1,1', diphenyl sulfide, 2,2'-diamino-1,1'-diphenyl sulfide-4,
4'-disulfon-säune-N-dimethyl- or NJ diethyl-amide, 2,2'-diamino-1,1'-diphenyl-sulfoxide or -sulfone, 3,3'- or 4,4'-diamino-1 , 1'-diphenyl sulfoxide or sulfone, 4,4'-dichloro-2,2'-diamino-1,1'-diphenyl sulfone and 2,2'-diamino-4,4'-dichloro-diphenyl sulfoxide are mentioned.
The bisaminophenylsulfonic acid amides derived from aliphatic, araliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic diamines are suitable as disulfonyl derivatives of diamines. To prepare these compounds, z.
B. primary or secondary diamines with optionally substituted nitrobenzenesulfonic acid halides and reduces the nitro to amino groups. Examples of such compounds which can be used as tetrazo components are the bisamiriobenzenesulfonic acid derivatives of the following primary diamines:
Ethylenediamine, 1,4-diamino-butane, 1,6-diamino-hexane, bisaminoethyl ether, 4-amino-benzylamine, 2- or 4-amino-phenoxyethylamine, 1,3- or 1,4-diamino-benzene, 1,4- or 1,5-diamino-naphthalene, 4,4'-diamino-diphenyl, 4,4'-diamino-3,3'- or -2,2'-dimethyl-diphenyl, 4,4'-diamino -dibenzyl, 1,1-bis (4-amino-cyclohexyl) -ethane or cyclohexane,
and the derivatives of bisaminophenylalkanes, -cycloalkanes, -ethers, -thioethers, -sulfoxides, -sulfones, -ketones and -ureas. However, the derivatives of secondary diamines are preferred, for which, for example, the derivatives of the aforementioned primary diamines alkylated on the amino groups are considered.
To prepare them, one expediently starts from the bis-nitrophenylsulfonyl derivatives of primary diamines and introduces alkyl groups on the amid nitrogen. Alkyl, oxalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryloxyalkyl or aralkyl chlorides or bromides are suitable as alkylating agents.
Tetrazo components, which are disulfonyl derivatives of aromatic dihydroxy compounds, can be obtained from nitrobenzenesulfonic acid halides by esterification of diphenols by customary methods with subsequent reduction of the nitro groups to the amino groups.
Examples of such diacyl derivatives are the bis-aminobenzenesulfonic acid esters of 1,3- or 1,4-dihydroxy-benzene, 1,5-, 2,6- or 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene, of bishydroxyphenyl ethers, - called thioethers, sulfoxides and sulfones, alkanes and cycloalkanes.
Finally, the tetrazo components can also be derived from amino-hydroxyaryl compounds, for example from 4-hydroxy-1-amino-benzene, from 2- or 4-amino-3'- or -4'-hydroxy-diphenyl ethers or from 2- or 4- Amino-4'-hydroxy-diphenyl sulfide. Since derivatives of secondary amines are also preferred in this series,
the bis-nitrobenzenesulfonyl derivatives of these starting materials are advantageously alkylated on the amide nitrogen and then the nitro groups are reduced to amino groups.
The tetrazotization of the diamines which can be used according to the invention is advantageously carried out in organic solution in the presence of mineral acid with sodium nitrite or in concentrated sulfuric acid with nitrosylsulfuric acid. Lower alcohols or lower fatty acids can be used as organic solvents.
The coupling components which can be used according to the present invention are 2-amino-naphthalenesulfonic acid amides, which are characterized in that they are substituted on the sulfamide nitrogen by a sulfated organic radical.
The naphthalene nucleus containing the primary amino group itself is unsulfated, but can contain other nonionic substituents such as halogens or alkoxy groups and, in a suitable position, also a hydroxyl group. The amides of 2-amino-naphthalene-5-, -6- and -7-sulfonic acids are particularly suitable.
Preferred compounds are the derivatives of 2-amino-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acid and 2-amino-8-hydroxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid. The sulfated organic radical can belong to the aliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic series. Valuable dyes are obtained in particular with 2-amino-naphthalenesulfonic acid amides in which both hydrogen atoms of the sulfamide group are substituted.
It is advantageous if, in addition to the sulfated organic radical, an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic unsulfated radical is present. It is preferably a lower alkyl group, especially when the sulfated organic radical is a cyclic radical.
The coupling components that can be used according to the invention are new. They are obtained from 2-amino naphthalenesulfonic acids which are optionally further substituted in the naphthalene nucleus by acylating the amino groups and any hydroxyl groups present, converting the sulfonic acids into the corresponding sulfonic acid halides by means of phosphorus halides,
Condensation of the same with suitable primary or secondary sulfated amines and saponification of the acylamino and acyloxy groups. For example, as coupling components 2-amino-naphthalene-5- or -6- or -7-sulfonic acid-N - (, d-sulfo-ethyl) N-methyl-amide, -sulfonic acid-N-4'- sulfo-benzyl-amide, -sulfonic acid-N-4'-chloro-2'-sulfo-benzyl-amide, -sulfonic acid-N-4'-sulfo-benzyl-N-methyl-amide,
-sulfonic acid-N- (ss-sulfo-ethyl) -N-benzyl-amide, -sulfonic acid-N-4'-sulfo-benzyl-N-benzyl-amide, -sulfonic acid-N-4'-sulfo-phenyl-N -methyl-amide, -sulphonic acid-N-3'-sulpho-phenyl-N-methyl-amide, -sulphonic acid-N-3'-sulpho-phenyl-N-ethyl-amide-, -sulphonic acid-N-4 '-sulfo-phenyl-N-ethyl- or butyl-amide, -sulfonic acid-N-4'-sulfo-benzyl-N-phenyl-amide, -sulfonic acid-N-4'-sulfo-phenyl-N-benzyl-amide , -sulfonic acid-N-7'-sulfo-naphthyl- (2 ') - amide,, sulfonic acid-N-7'-sulfo-naphthyl- (2')
-N-methyl-amide or sulfonic acid-N-4'-s.ulfo-naphthyl- (1 ') - N-methyl-asnide can be used. Of the coupling components which are further substituted in the aminonaphthalene ring, the 2-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene compounds which contain one of the aforementioned sulfonic acid asnide groups in the 6-position may be mentioned as preferred.
For coupling with the tetrazonium compounds that can be used according to the invention, the more or less acidic, aqueous solutions of the alkali metal salts of these 2-amino-naphthalene-sulfonic acid amido-alkyl, aralkyl or
-aryl-sulfonic acids. If necessary, one works in the presence of organic solvents such as ethyl alcohol or dioxane. In many cases, it is necessary to determine the most favorable coupling conditions, in particular the pH range, which can vary from dye to dye.
Valuable dyes which can be prepared according to the invention are above all those which contain the azo group in the ortho position to the sulfur-containing substituent and, among these, in particular those in which this substituent is a sulphonic acid amide group.
Such dyes give particularly good lightfast and wetfast colorations, especially when the sulfamide group in the remainder of the coupling component is substituted by a sulfated aryl group and an unsulfated lower alkyl group.
Of particular interest because of their better water solubility and their good drawability on wool are those disazo dyes in which the phenyl radicals carrying azo groups are linked directly via a sulfur atom or via an organic intermediate member containing at most 10 carbon atoms.
The most valuable dyes are based on the azo components 2-amino-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acid amides for orange shades and 2-amino-8-hydroxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid amides for red shades. The new disazo dyes are mostly used as alkali salts, e.g. B. as lithium, potassium or sodium salts, isolated and represent as such orange, red to brown water-soluble powder.
Some of the dyes are absorbed onto wool from a neutral bath and dye the same, as well as other natural and synthetic polypeptide fibers, in orange, yellow, or bluish-red shades. But it is also possible to dye wool and wool-like material with the new dyes from an acidic bath, for example an acetic acid bath.
The wool dyeings are very uniform thanks to the good leveling properties of these new dyes and are characterized above all by their remarkable lightfastness, the very good fastness to washing, fulling and sea water and their good alkali fastness. The good wet fastness properties of the wool dyeings are present both when dyeing from a neutral bath and when dyeing from an acid bath.
In the following examples, the parts are parts by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.

14.25 parts of 4,4'-dichloro-2,2'-diamino-diphenyl sulfide are suspended in 100 parts of glacial acetic acid, dissolved by dropping 30 parts of hydrochloric acid 30% and at 5-10 by rapid addition of 6,
9 parts of sodium nitrite in 20 parts of water tetrazole. The deep yellow tetrazo solution is left at 2-5 to an acetic acid suspension of 42.2 parts of 2-amino-8-hydroxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid-N-ethyl-N- (4'-sulfophenyl) -amide and 25 Parts of crystallized sodium acetate run in 500 parts of water. Coupling occurs immediately with formation of a red dye.
The mixture is stirred for several hours at 5-10, then heated to 60, 120 parts of sodium chloride are introduced, the dyestuff which has separated out is filtered off and dried.
The disazo dye - dyes wool in a liquor containing 5% ammonium sulfate when boiled in pure, bluish red shades. The wool dyeings are lightfast, millfast and washfast.

19.9 parts of bis- (2-aminobenzenesulfonic acid) -N, N'-dimethylethylenediamide are dissolved in 150 parts of glacial acetic acid with 20 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid and added dropwise while stirring 2-50 parts tetrazotized a solution of 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite in 15 parts of water. Gradually, 50 parts of ice are added and the yellowish tetrazo solution is then left at 2-50 in an acetic acid suspension of 48,
4 parts of 2-amino-8-hydroxynaphthane - 6 - sulfonic acid - N - benzyl - N - (4'-sulfophenyl) amide run in 500 parts of ethanol and 500 parts of water. The mixture is stirred for several hours at 10-200, then heated to 600, the acid is partially neutralized by sprinkling in 50 parts of sodium carbonate, 100 parts of sodium chloride are added and the dye which has separated out is filtered off.
The dye is washed on the suction filter with a 2% aqueous solution of sodium chloride and dried at 800 °. In the form of the dry sodium salt, it is a brown-red powder which dissolves in hot water with a blue-tinged red color.
The dye dyes wool from a bath containing 50 / a ammonium sulfate when boiled in uniform, pure, bluish red tones.
The wool dyes are very lightfast and wetfast.

21.0 parts of 1,3-bis (2'-aminobenzenesulfonyloxy) - benzene are dissolved in 100 parts of glacial acetic acid with 40 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid and at 0-50 by adding dropwise a solution of 6,
9 parts of sodium nitrite in 20 parts of water tetrazotized. The pale yellow tetrazo solution is stirred for a further 1 hour at 0-50 and then the excess nitrous acid is destroyed with a little sulfamic acid. The tetrazo solution is left at 2-50 in an acetic acid suspension of 39.2 parts of 2-amino-naphthalene-7-sulfonic acid-N-methyl-N- (4'-I.sulfo-phenyl) -amide and 25 parts of crystallized sodium acetate pour in 500 parts of water and 300 parts of ethanol.
The mixture is stirred for several hours at 0-50, the acid is then partially neutralized by sprinkling in 30 parts of sodium carbonate, 100 parts of sodium chloride are added, the dyestuff which has separated out is filtered off and dried. The dye dyes wool from neutral to weakly acidic baths in the presence of ammonium sulfate in pure orange tones. The coloring is characterized by remarkable wet fastness.

19.8 parts of 1,4-bis (2'-aminobenzenesulfonic acid) piperidide are dissolved in 150 parts of glacial acetic acid with 19 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid and a solution of 6.9 is added dropwise at 5-70 with thorough stirring Parts of sodium nitrite in 15 parts of water are tetrazotized. One carries gradually 50 parts of ice and leaves the yellowish tetrazo solution to the suspension of 40,
8 parts of 2-amino-8 hydroxy-naphthalene-6-sulfonic acid-N-methyl-N- (4 '= sulfo-phenyl) -a.mid and 40 parts of crystallized sodium acetate in 400 parts of ethanol and 400 parts of water at 0-50 come in. Coupling occurs immediately with the formation of a red dye. The mixture is stirred for several hours at 0-100, the acid is partially neutralized with 50 parts of sodium carbonate, the precipitated dye is filtered off with suction, washed on the suction filter with 2% aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried.
The dye dissolves in hot water with a red color and dyes wool from a bath containing ammonium sulfate in uniform, pure, bluish red tones when cooked. The dyeings are very lightfast and wetfast.
Dyeing instructions 100 parts of well-wetted wool are introduced at 40 into a dye bath which contains, in 300 parts of water, 2 parts of the disazo dye obtainable according to Example 2 and 10 parts of Glauber's salt. The mixture is then heated to the boil within 45 minutes and cooked for 11/2 hours while removing the wool well. This gives a very uniform, pure, bluish red wool dyeing which is distinguished by very good fastness properties.
Equally good wool dyeings can also be obtained using an acid dye bath, e.g. B. in the presence of 1 to 2 parts of 40d / aiger acetic acid.
The dyes of all other examples can be dyed on wool in a similar manner.
The table below indicates further dyes which can be produced when using appropriate amounts of tetrazo and azo components, as described in Examples 1-4.
