Fig. 2-6 sind Teilschnitte weiterer Beispiele.
Exhaust silencer for internal combustion engines The invention relates to an exhaust silencer for internal combustion engines, in which the damping effect takes place by changing the cross section.
With a compact design, it enables a good damping effect. The invention is characterized in that an expansion space of the muffler is partially spherical, the exhaust gas supply pipe upstream of the expansion space having a nozzle-shaped shape and the exhaust gas discharge pipe adjoining the expansion space consists of an exponential funnel narrowing in the direction of flow of the exhaust gases .
The exhaust gas supply pipe upstream of the expansion chamber expediently has either a cylindrical shape or it is designed as an exponential funnel which narrows in the direction of flow of the exhaust gases. The exhaust gas supply pipe can be provided with or without openings. Another embodiment consists in that the expansion space is divided by a partition wall with throttle bores acting as a baffle plate.
The subject of the invention is shown in the drawing using several exemplary embodiments. Fig.l shows an example of an exhaust silencer in longitudinal section.
Figs. 2-6 are partial sections of further examples. According to FIG. 1, the partially spherical expansion space 1 is formed by the two halves of the ball 2 and 3, which are connected to one another by welding. The ball half 2 is pulled on its left side up to the tube 4. This encloses the exhaust gas feed pipe 5, which is designed as an exponential funnel. The exponential funnel 7, which narrows in the direction of flow of the exhaust gases, is arranged on the right half of the sphere 3. This has the cylindrical outlet nozzle 8 at its free end part.
The exponential funnel 7 consists of two halves connected to one another by welding. In the embodiment shown by Fig. 1, the exhaust gases coming from the internal combustion engine, not shown, are passed through the exponential funnel 5 into the expansion space 1, where they expand and tension ent. From here they flow through the exponential funnel 7 to the outlet connection 8 and from there out into the open.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the exponential funnel 14 is provided with the openings 15. Here, compared to the nozzle 5 used in FIG. 1, a greater turbulence occurs in the expansion space 1.
3 and 4 show arrangements with cylin drical nozzles 16 and 18, respectively, the nozzle 18 having the openings 19 according to FIG.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 5, the partition wall 22 acting as a baffle plate is provided in the expansion space 20, 21 and divides the expansion space into the two spaces 20 and 21. The partition wall 22 has the throttle bores 23. With this arrangement, the gas flow passes through the exponential funnel 18 in accordance with the arrows into the space 20, where the gas expands. After vortexing in space 20, the gas flows through bores 23 into space 21, where it expands further. From here it flows through the exponential funnel 7 to the outlet nozzle and then into the open.
In the example according to FIG. 6, an outlet nozzle 10 with bores 11 is provided instead of the outlet nozzle 8 of FIG. The outlet connection 10 is here still enclosed by a nozzle 12.
