L'autre extrémité de l'axe 10 porte l'organe rota tif du potentiomètre qui doit être ajusté. Le palier 12 de l'axe est fixé à une partie immobile du poten tiomètre et sert à fixer le potentiomètre à un pan neau à un autre support 14 ;
Device for mounting an axis The present invention relates to devices for mounting an axis.
There are many cases in which it is necessary to rotate an axis, for example the control axis of a variable capacitor, of a potentiometer or other part of an electronic device, of so as to change the position of a member supported by said axis, and after said member has been brought into its correct position, it is desirable that the axis be held firmly in its adjusted position and not be affected by vibrations, shocks and similar effects, while remaining capable of being moved, if desired, to readjust said member by the application to the axis of a determined torque.
The object of the present invention is precisely to provide a device for mounting an axle which fulfills these conditions, while avoiding scratching the axle.
To this end, the device for mounting an axis, which is the subject of the invention, is characterized in that it comprises a sleeve having a screw thread so that it can be screwed to a fixed element, an elastic retaining member made of metal, for example steel, being fixed to said sleeve and comprising a base provided with a central opening for the passage of the axis and a series of resilient tongues extending from the base around the opening, extending in a same axial direction and inclined relative to the axis of said member such that, when the axis is disposed between these tongues, they are in engagement with this axis by friction,
the free ends of the tongues being rounded with respect to the axis so as to establish a practically tangential elastic contact with the latter, in order to avoid any danger of scratching the axis. Means can preferably be arranged so that the locking force exerted by the tabs on the axis can be increased at will between certain limits.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the mounting device which is the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a view thereof in axial vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the mounting device shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view with parts in section of the mounting device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 applied to the control axis of a variable potentiometer, and fig. 4 is a view similar to the previous one and further showing a nut that the mounting device has for pressing the tabs of the metal retaining member against the control shaft.
The mounting device shown in the drawing comprises a sleeve 1 having a generally cylindrical body threaded from one end to the other. One of these ends hereinafter designated by inner end has a flange 2 whose periphery is hexagonal, while the other end of said body designated hereinafter by outer end is internally milled so as to provide a cylindrical housing little deep in which is housed the circular base 3, open in the center, of an elastic steel retaining member; the base is retained in the housing by a crimp of the side wall of said housing.
The resilient retaining member comprises said base, the inner periphery of which stand out outwardly and in general axial direction four symmetrical tabs 4, the free ends of which are carefully rounded, as shown in FIG. 2. These tabs are inclined slightly towards the axis of the retainer; they are somewhat convex and transversely arched, as shown in figs. 1 and 2.
The central opening limited by the free ends of the tongues 4 has a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the control shaft 10 of the variable potentiometer 11 (fig. 3 and 4) and when the body of the device mounting is screwed onto the externally threaded end of the bearing 12 of axis 10 so that this axis passes between the tongues, the axis tends to move said tongues apart.
The adjacent end of the axle is provided with a slot 13 for a screwdriver so as to allow a sufficient torsional force to be applied to the axle to overcome the strong resistance to rotation of the axle imposed by the component. elastic retainer.
The other end of the axis 10 carries the rotary member of the potentiometer which must be adjusted. The bearing 12 of the axis is fixed to a stationary part of the poten tiometer and serves to fix the potentiometer to a panel to another support 14;
the bearing passes through an opening in the panel and the body of the mounting device screwed onto its threaded end locks the potentiometer to the panel or other support. A washer 15, which can also be used to identify a circuit is inserted between the panel or other support and the hexagonal flange 2 of the body, this flange having a recess 5 for the housing of said washer 15.
The part of the body of the mounting device ad jacente at its outer end is provided with an outer screw thread intended to receive a nut 20 (fig. 4) having at its outer end an annular flange 21 extending inwardly. and having a chamfered annular portion 22 intended, when the nut is screwed onto the body of the mounting device,
in pressing against the outer surfaces of the elastic tongues 4 so as to press the latter against the axis 10 to increase their friction against this axis; It is clear that the locking effect of the tabs on the axle can be adjusted at will between certain limits by tightening or loosening the nut 20.
The device of. mounting can be made of metal or plastic or any other suitable material. The tongues of the retaining member, instead of being directed axially outwards, can be directed axially, but inwards; in the latter case, the free ends of the lan guettes preferably open outwards to facilitate the introduction of the axis between them.
