Connection of tubular elements The main patent relates to a connection of tubular elements, one of which is constituted by a tube, the externally cylindrical end of which is engaged in the end of the other, a gasket being arranged between these elements, and in which an annular groove is formed in the inner wall of said second element and has a wall directed radially at its end adjacent to that of the element, the lining, of elongated transverse section,
being housed in said groove and formed so as to have an elastic and easily deformable annular part compressed between the bottom of the groove and the outer surface of the tube, and an annular part more resistant to deformation than the first part, placed on the side of the end of said second element and having a conical inner peripheral surface flaring out from the first.
The connection of tubular elements of the main patent is particularly designed for use in pipelines in which the pressure can vary from depressions to extremely high pressures. The present invention relates to a connection of tubular elements such as that defined above and intended for pipes operating under sufficiently low pressures so that the risk of the gasket being expelled is not as great as in pipes. operating under very high pressures. The connection forming the subject of the present invention is characterized in that the elastic and easily deformable annular part and the annular part more resistant to deformation are made of one and the same material.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the connection which is the subject of the invention, and some variants.
Fig. 1 is a partial longitudinal section of the end of an interlocking tube constituting one of the elements of the connection according to this embodiment.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are partial longitudinal sections of the ends of the elements of the connection in various positions, respectively in the pre-assembled position, partially, then completely assembled.
Fig. 5 is a partial longitudinal section on a reduced scale of one of the variants of the connection. Figs. 6 and 7 are partial longitudinal sections of other variants.
Figs. 8 to 14 are detail views showing the detail of different gaskets used in the connection.
Fig. 15 is a perspective view in separate parts of the connection elements of FIGS. 1 to 4.
The liner 12 is constructed and has dimensions such that it can be bent for insertion into the bell 3, but due to its elasticity it is easily forced into its normal circular shape upon insertion, so that its side surface is firmly pressed against the surface 8 of the wall of the tube 3. The innermost annular edge of the liner 12 is, however, some distance from the rear radial wall 7 of said tube. , as shown in fia. 2.
According to the preferred embodiment, as shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, using the filling shown in FIG. 8, the outer peripheral surface of the lining 12 has a groove 18, having a shape and an arrangement such as to receive an annular bead 9, a locking bead which projects internally from the wall 8.
When the packing is in place, as shown in fig. 4, an annular part 22 of the trim 12 limited by the groove 18 and the radial wall 21 occupies the space between the wall 11 and the locking bead 9 presented by the tube 3.
So that the two axial parts of the lining can be formed from the same material, and without it being necessary to reinforce the second axial part, which will be referred to below as the support part, it is necessary that the physical characteristics of the material are chosen so as to achieve a compromise between the functions to be performed by the two axial parts.
To obtain optimum performance at high pressure and with maximum clearances, the gasket should preferably be made of a suitable elastic plastic material which can easily be deformed having a Shore A hardness of between 40 and 65, and the part of support in a more rigid material with a hardness between 75 and 90.
In the embodiment shown, the two axial parts of the lining are made of an identical material; the optimum results have been found to be obtained by making a compromise between the characteristics required by the two parties and by using caout chouc, synthetic rubber, or any suitable plastic material having a Shore A hardness between 50 and 70.
In the preferred embodiments of the connection, the gaskets used are such that their axial dimension, that is to say their length, is greater than their greatest radial dimension or thickness and that the internal diameter is appropriate. narrowing from a maximum at the level of the support part to a minimum: at the level of the sealing part, but they can be of various shapes. The drawing shows only a few of the profiles and shapes of the fittings.
Thus, figs. 10 and 11 show a lining in which a series of holes is formed in the axis of the thickest part of the lining to make it more easily deformable, as FIGS. 12 and 13 show another packing having angular ribs, and that, in FIG. 14, the part of greater thickness is markedly different from that of the preceding figures.
