Dosing device for liquid fuel The invention relates to a dosing device for liquid fuel, for use in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, with a reciprocating piston arranged in a longitudinal bore of a cylindrical rotary valve, the fuel alternately on both sides of the piston is expelled by the fuel pressure acting on the other side of the piston,
and a feed pump supplies the device with the fuel.
The invention aims to create an improved metering device of this type, especially for use in machines with a large number of cylinders.
The inventive device is characterized by a rotary valve which is arranged in a housing provided with openings, and which has at least two identical, parallel ver running longitudinal bores, each of which has a reciprocating piston and two end stops, one of which for the purpose Adjustment of the movement zone of the piston is adjustable, and by an adjustable abutment against which the adjustable end stops are supported.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the subject invention is shown in longitudinal section. According to the drawing, a is a housing with a cylindrical bore into which a cylindrical chuck b is inserted. Both the housing and the chuck are provided with appropriately arranged inlet and outlet openings. A cylindrical rotary valve d is arranged in the chuck b, which has a coupling e at one end for connection to the machine. In the slide there are two parallel, equally large, longitudinal bores f running on both sides of the slide axis.
Each bore contains a piston g that can move back and forth and two end stops h, i. The stop h assumes a fixed position, while the stop i is free, so that its position can be changed in order to change the range of motion of the piston.
At the end of the housing, near the adjustable stops i, a cylindrical, axially adjustable ble abutment k is arranged on which the adjustable ble stops i are supported so that the United position of the abutment allows the same adjustment of the stops. An adjustment of the abutment k can be adjusted with the help of an axially arranged screw spindle m or by means of any suitable automatic mechanism, for example by means of a mechanism that moves under the influence of the air pressure in the suction pipe of the machine.
Openings are arranged in the slide near the ends of the pistons, as the figure shows, and inlet and outlet openings are arranged in the housing which, during the rotation of the slide, coincide with the openings of the slide at successive intervals. In the drawing, a pair of inlet and outlet openings cl, c2 is Darge, which are assigned to the piston in the upper bore.
A second pair of such openings (not shown) is offset by 90 from the openings cl, c2, and a third pair c3, c4 is offset by 180 from the openings cl, c2. Similar inlet and outlet openings assigned to the other piston are also provided in the housing. These other openings in the housing cannot be seen in the sectional plane of the drawing.
The number and arrangement of the inlet and outlet openings, which are equiangularly spaced around the housing, depends on the number of cylinders in the machine. In an eight-cylinder engine, each piston feeds four cylinders, and the arrangement of the openings is chosen so that the cylinders are fed in the desired order. Furthermore, the number of bores in the slide can be three or more if the machine has an even larger number of cylinders.
The mode of operation of the metering device is essentially similar to that of other devices of this type, but the construction differs in that at least two pistons are net angeord in separate bores of the rotary valve.
In the example shown in the drawing, fuel delivered by the feed pump enters through the inlet opening cl, moves the upper piston to the right and in doing so displaces fuel from the upper bore through the outlet opening e9 to the machine. When the slide has turned 90, the openings of the upper bore coincide with the next pair of openings in the housing and the piston is moved to the left, with the fuel entering through the inlet opening on the right.
After a further turn by 90, the openings of the mentioned bore coincide with the inlet and outlet openings c3, c4 and the piston is again moved to the right. A similar sequence of movements takes place with the second piston shown in the lower bore, with other inlet and outlet openings being effective.
