Description
Fig. 1 eine Draufsicht eines Bearbeitungstisches und
Fig. 2 einen Schnitt durch die Form.
Process for the production of hollow objects from a glass fiber mat impregnated with synthetic resin
The present invention relates to a method for the production of hollow objects from a synthetic resin impregnated fiberglass mat, e.g. B. a dome light for building lighting.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that a synthetic resin-impregnated glass fiber mat is placed flat and airtight between a base and a cover layer made of stretchable and airtight material, whereupon the whole thing is clamped airtight onto the circumferential flange of a mold so that a vacuum is created in the mold is, in such a way that the glass fiber mat with the underlay and cover layer is pressed against the inner wall of the mold that after the end of the treatment the vacuum is released, the object is taken out and the cover and underlay are removed.
The method according to the invention is explained, for example, using the drawing.
Show it:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a processing table and
Fig. 2 is a section through the mold.
To produce a circular light dome, a round base 2 is placed on the table 1.
On this base 2 a mat 3 of smaller diameter made of glass fibers is then placed and synthetic resin, suitably transparent polyester resin, is applied to this mat 3, whereupon a cover layer 4 of the same diameter as the base 2 is placed over the whole. With the help of the roller 5, which is moved radially and from the center towards the edge, the bottom and top layers 2, 4 and the mat 3 are smoothed out, the excess resin being pressed out at the same time. This will prevent the formation of air bubbles. The edges of the bottom and top layers are glued to each other by the pressed out synthetic resin.
The whole is now placed on the circular flange 6a of a mold 6, which can be connected to a vacuum source via a nozzle 7. A retaining ring 8 is arranged above this and pressed firmly against the flange 6a by means of screw-like clamps 9. A vacuum is then generated under the underlay 2, whereupon the underlay and cover layer with the resin-impregnated mat 3 in between are pressed against the dome-shaped wall of the mold 6 (dash-dotted lines in FIG. 2). While maintaining the vacuum, the mold 6 is heated by means of the infrared heating element 10.
Depending on the accelerators used, the temperature can e.g. B. 80 to 120 "C. The bottom and top layers consist of an airtight, stretchable material, suitably of polyvinyl chloride or of regenerated cellulose.
Depending on the materials used, cold treatment can also be carried out. At the end of the deformation, the vacuum is released, the dome is removed and the top and bottom layers are removed. Of course, you can use shapes that have a different outline, e.g. B. have an oval or square outline.
The device shown is only exposed to low pressures, so that it is made of fairly thin material, e.g. B. sheet metal or wooden panels can be produced that must withstand pressures in the order of magnitude of an atmosphere.
The squeezed out resin sticks the edges of the top and backing together in such a way that no air can be drawn in between them.
Objects produced according to the described method, in particular light domes made of polyester resin, prove to be more transparent than similar objects produced according to known methods and for this purpose have a smooth surface.
