Process for the preparation of stilbyltriazole compounds In the Swiss patents numbers 323318, 328424 and 331512, 2- (stilbyl-4 ") - (arylo-1 ', 2': 4.5) -1.2, free of acidic dissociating groups in water Described 3-triazole compounds which contain a non-acidically dissociating sulphonyl substituent in the 2 ", 2" or 41 "position of the stilbyl radical. Thanks to their blue fluorescence, these compounds are very suitable for optically brightening hydrophobic organic materials.
The sulfonyl substituents which are not acidic dissociating in water are the optionally substituted sulfonic acid amide groups, sulfonic acid aryl ester groups and alkyl, aralkyl and aryl sulfonyl groups. As aryl radicals, the stilbyltriazole compounds described contain at most two valent radicals, for example radicals of the benzene and especially the naphthalene series.
It has now been found that analogous stilbyltriazole compounds, which contain the three-ring acenaphthenylene radical as arylene radical, also fluoresce blue and are soluble in organic solvents and are therefore also very suitable for the optical brightening of hydrophobic organic material.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of aryl esters of 2- (stilbyl-4 ") - (acenaphtheno-4 ', 5': 4,5) - 1,2,3-triazoles having sulfonic acid groups, which process is characterized is that one has 2- (stilbyl-4 ") - (acenaphtheno-4 ', 5':
4,5) - 1,2,3-triazole-2 "-, 2" '- or 4 "' - sulfonic acids or their alkali salts by means of phosphorus halides into the corresponding sulfonic acid halides and the same with aromatic hydroxyl compounds or their salts in sulfonic acid aryl esters The components are to be selected so that the end products have neither color-producing nor acidic salt-forming substituents.
In contrast, they can contain inert substituents customary in azo dyes, for example halogens, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, acyl, amino,
Carboxylic acid and sulfonic acid ester or amide groups and alkyl or aryl sulfone groups. As acidic dissociating substituents, for example, sulfonic acid and carboxylic acid groups are excluded, as chromophores z. B. the nitro, arylazo and arylazoxy groups, as well as aromatically bound hydroxyl and amino groups.
The best way to prepare the sulfonated 2-stilbyl-4,5-acenaphtheno-1,2,3-triazoles which are used as starting materials is as follows: Diazotized, optionally further substituted 4-amino-stilbene sulfonic acids are added in the adjacent position Aminoacenaphtheneri coupling a primary amino group, which can also contain customary non-chromophoric substituents.
The resulting o-amino-azo dyes are then oxidized to the 1,2,3-triazole compounds. The 4-amino stilbene sulfonic acids mentioned in the main patents mentioned can be used, for. B. the compounds obtainable by the known methods of Thiele, Pschorr and Meerwein. The conditions under which the coupling of the stilbene diazonium compounds with the aminoacenaphthene compounds and the oxidation to the triazole compounds are carried out correspond to those described there.
As an acenaphthene compound coupling in the o-position to a primary amino group, 5-amino-acenaphthene is particularly suitable. Further z. B. the 6-chloro or 6-bromo, 6-cyano and 6-alkoxy-5-amino-acenaphthenes can be used. Phosphorus pentachloride is preferably used as the phosphorus halide.
Examples of aromatic hydroxyl compounds that can be used are phenol, ring-alkylated phenols, alkoxyphenols, naphthols, hydroxydiphenyls, hydroxydiphenylethane or hydroxydiphenylalkanes.
The new 2-stilbyl-4,5-acenaphtheno-1,2,3-triazolesulfonic acid esters have a beautiful blue fluorescence in organic solution and are very suitable for the optical brightening of hydrophobic organic materials, for example polymeric plastics such as polyvinyl - or polyvinylidene chloride, polyacrylonitrile, polystyrenes, polyethylene or copolymers of these and other olefins, condensates of poly, such as nylon, perlon and terylene,
as well as hydrocarbons, fats, oils and waxes.
In the following example, the parts are to be understood as parts by weight, unless otherwise expressly stated; they are in the same proportion to parts by volume as g to cm3. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
