Mooring device to a flexible link The present invention relates to a device for mooring to a flexible link, in particular to a rock climbing rope.
To go up along a rope by one's own means, one can use the method known as the Prussik n.mud which consists in forming on the rope a ring locked by a key and allowing to hang a stirrup. This method is slow and takes both hands of the climber. To remedy these drawbacks, a mechanical device for mooring to a rope and to which a stirrup is attached has already been proposed.
However, such a device has the disadvantage of being of complicated and bulky construction, comprising in particular pivoting members for the wedging of the rope and a trigger mechanism to release these members. The weight of this device, moreover, constitutes a serious drawback.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and the device which is the subject thereof is characterized by a metal bent lever having one arm longer than the other, the free end of the long arm being provided with a hooking member and by two binding elements of the link, arranged respectively at the elbow and at the free end of the short arm, and intended to bear on this link in such a way that, by causing said lever to swing around its elbow , the link is folded in a Z shape passing through the wedging elements,
which anchors the lever to the link and makes it possible to apply a tensile force on said hooking member.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device used in conjunction with a rope. Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2 in another position of the device.
The device shown in FIG. 1 comprises a metal bent lever, for example made of steel, of circular section, having a long arm 1 and a short arm 2. The free end of the long arm 1 is provided with a fastening member consisting of a ring 3 of elongated shape, manufactured with the lever 1, 2. Each end of the short arm 2 comprises a wedging element generally designated 4 respectively 5.
The wedging elements 4 and 5 are manufactured with the bent lever 1, 2 and have the shape of a V, these elements being arranged on the same side with respect to the bent lever 1, 2 so as to leave free. the angles of the V. In addition, they are arranged in two parallel planes with the branches of the two Vs directed in opposite directions.
In fig. 2, the device is shown moored to a climbing rope 6 hanging freely in front of the climber. It will be noted that the diameter of the cord 6 is greater than the smallest radius of curvature of the bottom of the V of each element 4 and 5,
this condition being necessary to obtain the wedging of the rope in these elements as will be described below. The ring 3 is connected to a stirrup (not shown) by a cord 7. The branches of the element 4 overlap the cord 6 which is guided, on the other hand, between the branches of the element 5.
A traction applied to the cord 7 in the direction of arrow 8 causes the elbow lever 1, 2 to swing around its elbow in the position shown in FIG. 3 in which the rope is bent in the shape of Z being wedged in the angles of the V of the elements 4 and 5. The traction 8 s. Then exerts entirely on the section of the cord 6 located above the element 4 as indicated by arrow 9. Using a pair of these mooring devices, it is, for example, possible to pull up a rope passing over an overhang.
In this case, while a device retains the stirrup of the right foot, for example, the device of the tines to retain the stirrup of the left foot is free and can be moored on the rope 6 stretched above the first and so on alternately for each caliper.
The device described can also be moored to a rope by being hooked by the ring 3 to a fixed point, the rope being wedged between the branches of the element 4 as shown in FIG. 3.
Although the mooring device described is specially designed for rock climbing, it is understood that it could be used in any other field where it is a question, for example, of suspending or mooring a heavy object with a flexible tie or as a tensioner for cables or ropes, in particular in navigation and in particular on sailboats or in camping.
The device described has the advantage of being of reduced bulk and low weight, compared to known devices.
