Regulator for gaseous fluids The invention relates to a regulator for gaseous fluids and provides for the replacement of the spring device, usually used to exert a determined adjustment pressure on a valve controlling the flow of the fluid, by a pneumatic device in which this adjustment pressure is obtained by compressing a certain volume of air.
To this end, this pneumatic device comprises a cylinder containing a piston adjustable in position and used to exert the desired adjustment pressure tending to open the valve of the pressure reducer, by means of an air cushion and on a another organ, with a piston or with a deformable membrane, which is rigidly connected to this valve and which is subjected, on its face opposite to the air cushion, to the fluid under relaxed pressure.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the regulator according to the invention.
The single figure is an axial section of this embodiment.
It can be seen from the drawing that the body 1 of the regulator comprises several pipes having the following destination: 2 is the pipe for connecting the tensioner to the source of pressurized fluid; 3 is the outlet tubing to which the device (s) using the fluid under reduced pressure are connected; 4 is the tubing for fixing the pneumatic control device for the valve 5 of the pressure reducer; 6 is the passage pipe of this valve 5 also containing a compressible elastic stop 7, made of rubber or suitable plastic material, interposed between this valve which it applies to its seat 8 and a compression plug 9 ensuring the sealing of this tubing.
The valve 5 can slide in the bore 10 of the body 1 and in the bore 11 of a lantern 12, brought into place by the pipe 4 and forming an 8-shaped valve seat, the sealing of this lantern in the body 1 being provided by an O-ring 13. It can be seen that it in fact reigns normally in the lantern; above the seat 8 and around the valve 5, the pressure of the fluid source connected at 2, this pressure also being admitted above the valve in the capacity 14 formed under the stopper 9, by a channel 15 formed on the valve and by notches 16 formed in the upper protruding bead 71 of the compressible stop 7, so that the pressure of the fluid to be released helps to apply the valve to its seat.
The stopper 9 ensures the sealing of the tubing 6 in contact with the bowl 61 formed therein, by its lip flange 91 which is applied thereto with a certain elastic tension by total screwing of the stopper, the pressure in the capacity. 14 contributing to sealing the contact of this collar with the bowl.
The axial duct 17 of the lantern, formed under the valve seat, is placed in permanent communication with the outlet pipe 3 of the pressure reducer through the radial passage 18 of the lantern, the annular space 19 formed between the foot of the latter. ci and the body 1, then through the passage 20 formed in the latter.
The pneumatic device for controlling the valve 5 comprises a cylinder 21 which is screwed into the tubing 4 and ensures, during assembly, at the same time as the blocking of the foot of the lantern 12 in the body 1, the fixing of a deformable membrane. 22 by its toric edge 23 interposed between corresponding shoulders of these two parts. This elastic membrane, made of rubber for example, is used to control the opening of the valve and it comprises for this purpose, incorporated in its central part during vulcanization, a disc 24 being extended by a threaded rod 25 on which is screwed valve 5.
The membrane 22 thus forms the upper bottom of the cylinder 21, and it comprises on its periphery two flanges with flexible sealing lips, one 26 providing the seal in the foot of the lantern 12, that is to say on its face subjected, by the way of the wise passage 27, to the relaxed pressure when the regulator is in service, the other 28 ensuring the seal against the capacity 29 of the cylinder in which the pressurized air cushion is formed which is used to adjust the regulator.
This cushion is formed by displacement of a piston 30, which can be operated by means of a screw 31 passing through the cylinder base 32 and provided with a knurled knob 33.
It can be seen that the body of this piston 30 is provided with a cover 34 fixed by screw 35 and serving to retain a gasket 36 with a flexible double lip, the role of which is to ensure perfect bilateral sealing facing the membrane 22, the lip 361 ensuring the seal in the cylinder and the lip 362 against the piston body.
The operation of the regulator is as follows. The operating button 33 being completely released (position of the figure), the piston 30 rests on the bottom 32 of the cylinder. The capacity 29 is filled with air at atmospheric pressure thanks to the channel 37 which communicates the atmosphere with the interior of the cylinder, the atmospheric air being able in fact to enter the capacity 29, in case. of depression therein, through the notches 38 around the periphery of the gasket 36, the flexible outer lip 361 of which can bend slightly and form a valve.
The membrane 22 which is not subjected to any pressure on its lower face is subjected without opposing it to the pressure of the stop 7 applying the valve 5 to its seat 8.
If at this moment we connect the pipe 2 of the regulator to a compressed air network for example, the pressure of the latter is established above the seat 8 but no air flow occurs because the valve is blocked on his seat as it was said previously. The regulator behaves like a closed valve.
If, by activating the operating button 33, the piston 30 is made to rise, an air cushion of increasing pressure is formed in the capacity 29. At a given moment this pressure becomes capable of pushing the membrane 22 which lifts the valve 5. L The air from the network then flows through the outlet pipe 3 using the routes already indicated. The valve is therefore subjected to two sets of opposing forces. The first results from the action of the pressure of the network which is exerted above it, from the elastic force of the stop 7 and from the relaxed pressure applied on the upper face of the membrane 22.
The second results from the action of the relaxed pressure exerted under the valve and the force transmitted to the diaphragm 22 by the pressure air cushion of the capacity 29.
It can be understood that for any pressure created at 29 between determined limits there is a balance of forces which allows air flow through the valve such that the downstream pressure remains stable at a value between zero and the pressure of the network. , the regulator thus maintains a given relaxed pressure in the pipe 2 and towards the device (s).
If the air in the capacity 29 is further compressed, the force which tends to lift the valve is increased, the relaxed pressure rises. If, on the other hand, it is compressed less, the relaxed pressure decreases.
Note in the cap 9 the presence of a control and safety hole 39. In fact, if the cap is unscrewed while the regulator is connected to the network, the air escapes after a few turns and warns the operator. .
There is also provided a hole 40 drilled in the pipe 4 and which constitutes, like the hole 39, a security in the event that the cylinder 21 is unscrewed from the control device before having closed the compressed air supply to the outlet. tubing 2. Exhausting air through this hole would alert the operator before fully unscrewing the cylinder.
Overall the removal of any spring gives the described regulator total safety. It is in fact well known that the springs are particularly subject to corrosion in a regulator, that they deteriorate relatively quickly and do not retain their initial elasticity, sudden ruptures being to be feared which add to these risks of insecurity. and maintenance easements.
In a variant, the deformable membrane could be replaced by a piston rod connected to the valve and provided with a suitable seal.
