Device for adjusting the height of the body of a stationary vehicle relative to the ground In construction, road vehicles and in particular heavy vehicles such as public transport buses, it is necessary that the chassis or body of these vehicles, is distant from the ground by a sufficient height to allow suitable deflections of the suspension.
This requirement and the existence: many mechanical members below the chassis lead to the realization of a relatively high floor, which is a nuisance for passengers when entering and exiting the vehicle. In addition, the time taken by passengers to get on and off, due to the necessary existence of steps with several steps, appreciably increases the stopping times and consequently reduces the profitability of the operation.
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by creating a device which makes it possible, when the vehicle is stopped, to bring the expensive traffic plane closer to the ground and, consequently, to make access significantly easier.
According to the invention, the device com carries a. member sensitive to the position of the suspended part of the vehicle relative to its unsprung part, this member ensuring the regulation of fluid suspension elements to re-establish between the suspended and non-suspended parts an average reference position during oscillations of one of the two parts, this member also being associated with a jack, itself controlled from one of the doors of the vehicle,
so as to bring it into a position for which it modifies the reference position to vary the height of the suspended part relative to the non-suspended part, when stopping the. vehicle. An embodiment of the device that is the subject of the invention as well as variants is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a schematic elevation illustrating a first embodiment of the device.
Fig. 2 is a diagram of a detail of the device according to FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a schematic view illustrating a variant of the device according to FIG. 1.
Figs. 4 and 5 are half-sectional elevations of certain components shown schematically in FIGS. 1 and 3, these organs being represented.
Fig. 6 is a diagram of a variant of the device according to. fig. 1 and 3.
According to the embodiment of the device represented in hg. 1, 1 designates one of the knuckle carriers of a wheel la of a vehicle, this knuckle carrier being connected to the chassis or at the body by connecting rods 2, 3.
The connecting rod 2 is integral with a lever 4. The end of the latter is connected, by a rod 5 comprising an elastic member 6, to the crank 7 of a distributor 8 intended to control the supply of liquid under pressure to a suspension element, not shown, with hydraulic control, of the type commonly used in so-called hydraulic suspensions.
The crank 7 is furthermore connected by a rigid connecting rod 9 to the control member 10 of a double-acting damper 11, hereinafter referred to as dash-pot.
12 designates a cylinder connected to the lever 4 by a rod 13 articulated at 14. The cylinder 12, which constitutes the body of a single-acting cylinder, comprises a piston 15, the rod 16 of which is provided with a control member. stopper 17 intended to actuate, in order to make it pivot, the crank 7 of the distributor 8. The piston 15 can only control the crank 7 in the direction in which the rod 16 pushes this crank.
All of the components described above are mounted symmetrically on the two wheels of the same wheel set of the vehicle and the two supply conduits 18 of the two cylinders 12 of this train. are connected together, as shown in fig. 2, so that these cylinders are fed simultaneously by the outlet duct 19 of a solenoid valve 20 connected by a tube 21 to a source of pressurized liquid and by a tube 22 to a liquid storage tank or tank.
23 designates the control winding of the solenoid valve 20. The winding 23 is supplied from a suitable current source, such as the accumulator battery of the vehicle, this supply being controlled according to the position which oc cup one of the vehicle doors.
The crank 7 of the distributor 8 can occupy all the positions included between the axis referenced by the letter a and the axis referenced by the letter b. In the position shown in drawing, either in c, the distributor is in neutral position, that is to say that the suspension elements are not supplied, which corresponds to the normal position in the reference position of the vehicle body when this last is circulating.
The short-lived oscillations of the wheel 1a are absorbed by the spring 6 of the rod 5, given that the movement that the crank 7 of the distributor 8 could take is braked by the dash-pot 11; consequently, only deflections of duration above a certain limit can influence the distributor 8 which feeds the suspension element in the appropriate direction to return the connecting rods 2 to the suitable position for which the crank 7 is again in position vs.
When the vehicle is stopped, for example, the bearing 23 being controlled by opening one of the doors of this vehicle, the solenoid valve. 20 is born in a position for which the conduit 22 is closed and the conduit 19 placed in communication with the conduit 21 for supplying the fluid below. pressure.
This has the effect of supplying the cylinders 12, the pistons of which are pushed back along the arrow 4l, so that the crank 7 occupies the position d. In this position, the distributor 8 supplies the suspension elements in the direction in which the vehicle body descends. The movement of the center of the body has the effect of causing the lever 4 to pivot along the arrow f. ,, until the moment when the crank 7 is returned to position c, which corresponds to a determined lowering of the body. of the vehicle.
By performing the maneuver opposite to that indicated above, that is to say by closing the vehicle doors, the winding 23 is, for example, again supplied, so that the solenoid valve puts the tubes 19 and 22 in communication, which has the effect of communicating the cylinders 12 with the tank or fluid reservoir and, as a result, the pistons 15 become free.
The spring 6 of the connecting rod 5, which had been stretched during the downward movement of the vehicle body, exerts a traction on the crank 7 and brings it back to position a, having the effect of sending the pressurized fluid into the suspension elements and to raise the body. In this sense, the movement of. pivoting of the crank 7 is braked by the dash-pot 11, so that the vehicle body is raised gradually.
In the new position occupied by the vehicle body, on the one hand, and the piston 15, on the other hand, the stop 17, which the piston rod 16 comprises, is sufficiently far from the crank 7 so that the latter can occupy all the positions between a and b, depending on the stresses that this crank receives by the connecting rod 5 provided with the res out 6 due to the unevenness of the road.
The stroke of the pistons 15 and, therefore, the position d can be variable for the different wheels of the vehicle, so that the movements of the body result from the combination of translational movements and rotational movements to bring, for example , the steps at the optimum height when stationary to facilitate access to the vehicle as much as possible.
According to the variant shown in FIG. 3, the two sets of members of the same set of wheels have been shown, one of the sets carrying them. same. references than in fig. 1 and the other also these. references but assigned to index 1.
According to this variant, the wheel set comprises only one cylinder 12a supplied by the outlet duct 19 of the solenoid valve 20 controlled by the bearing 23. The rod 16a of the piston 15a controls, by a connecting piece 24, two transmissions. flexible 25, 26, identical to each other, the sheaths 27 and 28 are supported on the levers 4 and 41.
In this case, the operation is identical to that described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, the control of the cranks 7 and 71 being performed simultaneously by the flexible transmissions 25. And 26 when the vehicle body is desired to be lowered.
Figs. 4 and 5 illustrate a particular embodiment of the cylinder 12, connecting rod 5 and spring 6 assembly. The cylinder 12 is articulated by a tab 29 to the lever 4 and contains a piston 15 provided with a seal 30. The piston is normally held against a bearing surface 31 by a spring 32 bearing against a bearing 33 held by a circlip 34.
The bearing 33 serves to guide a tube 35, the end of which, projecting from the cylinder 12, is closed by a cap 36 comprising fastening means 37 to ensure its connection with the crank 7. The cap 36 serves as a abutment to a tubular spacer 38, against which rests a ring 39 serving as a stopper at one end of a spring 40, the other end of which exerts a thrust: on a second ring 41 having its movement limited at the same time by a circlip 42 and by a shoulder 43 formed by the rod 16 of the piston. The springs 40 and 32 are chosen so that the action of the spring 32 is always preponderant to that of the spring 40.
The position of the members shown in the upper part of FIG. 4 corresponds to the position c (FIG. 1) of the crank 7, that is to say to the position for which the vehicle body is high, for example when it is moving.
The pulses of short duration transmitted to the wheels are absorbed by the spring 40 due to the braking exerted by the dash-pot 11. In fact, a pulse of short duration following the arrow f3 moves the cylinder 12, the piston 15 of which remains in abutment. against the bearing 31, by sliding the bearing 33 on the. tube 35.
The spring 40 is also compressed, since the shoulder 43 of the piston rod 16 moves, along arrow f3, the ring 41, the end 37 being braked in its movement by the dash-pot 11 of, FIG. 1.
For a pulse of short duration directed in the direction opposite to the arrow fa, the spring 40 is compressed, the piston 15 being moved by the action of the circlip 34, of the bearing 33 and of the spring 32 of which the action is always preponderant over that of the spring 40; the rod 16 moves the ring 39 by the action exerted on it by the ring 44 integral with the rod 16.
For pulses of greater duration, the tube 35 is moved in one direction or the other, under the action of the spring 40 which tends to resume its initial length and, consequently, the crank 7 controls the distributor 8 for influence the main suspension element.
As explained above, when it is desired to lower the body of the vehicle, the cylinder 12 is supplied to lengthen the elastic connecting rod 5, 6 (FIG. 1). The pressurized fluid, sent into the conduit 18, pushes back almost instantaneously the piston 15 and, consequently, the members described above in FIG. 4 take the positions designated by their references assigned the index 1 (lower part of FIG. 4).
Due to the braking action exerted by the dash-pot 11, the position of the cap 36 and, consequently, of the crank 7 is not yet modified when the piston 151 comes into contact with a tube. spacer 45 bearing against the bearing 33 and forming an interior lining to the cylinder 12.
It follows that the springs 401 and 321 are compressed, the ring 391 still being in contact with the spacer tube 381, while the ring 411, pushed by the shoulder 431 of the rod 161 , is at a certain distance from circlip 421.
While relaxing, the spring 401 pushes the ring 391 and, consequently, through the intermediary of the cap 36, the tube 35, so that the various members come to occupy the position shown in the upper part of FIG. 5, for which the references designating the constituent bodies are assigned the index 2.
The elongation of the jack 12 taking place gradually due to the braking exerted by the dash-pot 11, the action on the distributor 8 is not sudden and, consequently, the lowering of the vehicle is effected without harming to the comfort of its passengers.
As shown in the upper part of fig. 5, the elongation that the cylinder 12 can take is limited, since the stroke of the piston 152 is regulated by the spacer tube 452 and the elongation of the spring 402 is limited to the length separating the shoulder 432- from the rod 162 of the ring 442. This elongation can moreover be easily adjusted, since it suffices to modify the useful length of the spacer tube 452.
As can be seen from the drawing, the funnel assembly in this configuration exactly as in the configuration shown in the upper part of FIG. 4, the piston 152 being held firmly stationary relative to the cylinder 122 by the pressure of the fluid.
To return the body of the vehicle to the normal high position, the solenoid valve 20 is controlled as before to put the cylinder 12 in communication with the tarpaulin or the tank or the open air.
The spring 32.3 (lower part of FIG. 5) rapidly pushes back the piston 153 which again comes into contact with the bearing surface 31.3; this movement has the effect of compressing the spring 403, the force of which is always weaker than the spring 323.
Indeed, the dash-pot 11 exerts a braking action and prevents the tube 353 from being quickly returned to its initial position, so that the ring 443 slides the ring 393 which compresses the spring 403 bearing against the ring 413 held immobilized by the circlip 423.
The spring 403 then relaxes progressively by sliding the tube 353 and by acting accordingly on the crank 7, brought progressively between the position c and the position, a, which causes the raising of the body of the vehicle-, raising having for effect of then returning the crank 7 to position c, while the elastic device described above comes again in. the. position shown at the top of fig. 4.
As emerges from the above, this particular embodiment of the elastic connecting rod and the cylinder allows very safe operation to be obtained, since the distributor 8 is controlled precisely and smoothly, while the pulses of short duration are absorbed in, the elastic device itself, without the piston 15 being moved,
which avoids wearing out its seal 30 which works only during movements of the piston 15 causing the lowering and raising of the vehicle body. The fluid used for controlling the piston 15 can equally well be a liquid fluid or a gaseous fluid such as compressed air.
When this device is mounted on a heavy vehicle, it is even advantageous to use compressed air, given that this vehicle generally comprises an air compression installation for the control of various services.
In the foregoing, it was considered that the suspension of the vehicle was of the so-called hydraulic type. This device can however be used when the vehicle has another type of suspension and, in particular, a purely pneumatic suspension.
Fig. 6 schematically shows a variant of the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 according to which the distributor 8 is replaced by an air distributor 46 in which the compressed air is supplied by a duct 47. This distributor makes it possible to ensure communication, under certain conditions, between this duct 47 and the main suspension device via a duct 48.
For another position of the distributor, the main suspension element is vented through a duct 49. The distributor is operated in the same way as for the distributor 8 by a lever 50. In the position of the lever 50, shown in solid lines in the drawing: the communication between the various conduits 47, 48, 49, is interrupted, which corresponds to a defined position of the body 51 of the vehicle.
Assuming that the lever 50 pivots along the arrow f4, to come towards, the position 501, the pipes 4.8 and 49 are put in communication and the compressed air contained by the main suspension device can escape, so that the body 51 of the vehicle descends relative to the knuckle carrier 1.
For a movement in the opposite direction of the lever 50 which can come as far as position 502, it is the conduits 47 and 48 which are placed in communication and the body 51 is raised relative to the knuckle holder.
52 designates a connecting rod connected by an articulation 53 to a second connecting rod 54, one end of which is connected, by a suitable articulation 55, to the end of the lever 50 and of which the other end is connected, by another articulation 56, to the piston rod 57 of a jack. 58 similar to the jack 12 of the preceding figures.
In normal operation, that is to say when the body 51 is in the high position, the pulses received by the knuckle carrier 1 are transmitted by the link 52 to the link 54, which has the effect of actuating in one direction or the other lever 50.
In this type of suspension, which uses pressurized air, the capacity of the main suspension components being large, it is irrelevant whether these components are influenced. even for.
movements of short duration, given that the quantity of exhaust air or additional air admitted is small, taking into account their capacity, which avoids the use of the dash-pot 11 and the elastic connecting rod system 5, 6 .
When it is desired to lower the vehicle, the compressed air contained in the jack 58 is evacuated, which is obtained by the action of a solenoid valve similar to the solenoid valve 20, the winding 23 of which is controlled by one of the vehicle doors.
The displacement of the piston of the cylinder 58 has the effect of bringing the articulation 56 towards position 56a; in this way, the lever 54 pivots around 53 and, therefore, the lever 50 pivots to come to a point between the extreme positions 50 and 501, so that the distributor 46 is operated in the direction in which the body 51 is lowered, which corresponds to a relative rise of the knuckle holder, which occupies the location shown diagrammatically in dotted lines.
As the body 51 descends, the articulation 53 traverses the space between the positions referenced 53 and 53a. In: this last position, the lever 50 has returned to the position shown in solid lines, which is the neutral position, and, consequently, the movement of the body is stopped.
To return the body 51 to the high position, the cylinder 58 is again supplied and the reverse operations are carried out.
