Casting device The invention relates to a casting device, in particular a device for casting ferrous metals, including alloy and carbon steels, which have to be heated to or above 1370 C before melting.
The casting device according to the invention is characterized by a porous mold which forms a cavity for receiving the molten metal to be cast, a plate engaging part of the mold and having a channel opening outside the mold which can be connected to an evacuation device , and .a member enclosing the exposed mold parts that maintains the shape of the mold and allows air to pass through the member and the pores of the mold when a vacuum is applied to the mold.
The invention is particularly, but not exclusively, used for precision casting, which is often used for the production of objects that have arcuate or irregularly shaped recesses or particularly thin wall parts made by means of a core or that should not experience any significant machining afterwards.
In normal practice, the metal to be cast is first heated to a temperature well above its melting point and is introduced into a mold via a pouring opening, which is connected to the mold cavity via a pouring funnel, with ventilation of the mold cavity being provided and risers and lost heads are provided to ensure the filling len of the cavity and to compensate for the shrinkage occurring during cooling by additional metal. Up to now, extremely high temperatures were necessary to produce castings with thin-walled parts.
When casting such objects according to the usual methods, only about a third of the cast metal is used to manufacture the actual casting, while the rest goes into the pouring funnels, risers, lost heads and pouring openings.
In addition, it has been shown in normal practice, which requires extremely high temperatures, that up to 701 / o of the castings produced in this way have to be scrapped because the mold cavities were incompletely filled and the castings had a high porosity, which causes poor physical properties, especially with regard to tensile strength.
Investigations have led to the assumption that the high temperature necessary to achieve the required flowability leads to an increase in gas inclusions and oxide formation. X-rays show that literally hundreds of pores are forming. The incomplete edge formation of remote parts of castings produced according to the previous practice is attributed to the fact that air and other gases are only incompletely removed from remote parts of the mold cavity.
The aim of the invention is therefore generally to provide an improved casting device in which the above-mentioned difficulties are essentially eliminated. Related to this is the task of creating a Giesseinrich device that allows faster and more economical operation and at which the initial temperature to which the metal to be cast must be brought, is only slightly above its melting point, so that the oxidation and incorporation of oxides in the castings is reduced, and gas inclusions are kept low and castings of improved physical properties are obtained.
Furthermore, the invention aims to provide a casting device in which a complete Ent distance of air and other gases from the mold cavity and the complete filling of the mold cavity with the molten casting material is effected in order to obtain fully formed castings.
Embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings. 1 and 2 show a view and plan view of a casting device designed according to the invention, FIGS. 3 and 4 show a view and plan view of a modified form of a casting device designed according to the invention, FIG. 5 is a bottom view of that in FIG , 2, 3 and 4 illustrated vacuum plate.
FIG. 6 is an enlarged vertical section along the line 6-6 in FIG. 1.
The invention allows various Abänderun conditions and construction variants, but preferred embodiments are shown in the drawing, which are described in detail below. However, the invention is not restricted to the exemplary embodiments shown, but rather includes all modifications and design variants that are within the scope of the invention.
In Fig. 1 and 2, a mold frame 84 is provided from ge suitable U- and L-profiles. It has a flat main support 85 on which a form 86 is mounted on it using a clamping device 88 operated by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. The clamping device 88 has a cylinder 89 which is rigidly attached to the horizontal support 85 and from there downwards it stretches, and a piston 90 which can be moved back and forth in the cylinder by a pressure medium passing through the openings 91 enters or leaves the cylinder.
From the piston and cylinder 89, 90, a piston rod 96 extends downward, to which the lower cross rod 95 of a clamping frame is rigidly attached, which perpendicularly arranged tie rods 92 and above and below parallel cross rods 94, 95 has. The tie rods 92 pass through suitable openings in the support 85, so that the upper transverse rod 94 is arranged at a distance above the support 85 so far that the mold 86 can be arranged between them. Therefore, as the piston 90 reciprocates in the cylinder 89, the clamp frame can go up and down with respect to the shape.
To realize the above-mentioned purposes of the casting device, a vacuum is indirectly applied to the mold 86 made of suitable coarse ceramic material and the cavities 98 (FIG. 6) provided therein, with the help of an upturned vacuum plate 99 which is placed on the top bearing 85 rests and bears the shape. When the metal to be cast is ready to be cast, the mold 86 is clamped between the vacuum plate 99 and the upper transverse rod 94.
The usual molding material, e.g. B. plaster of paris is used in the melting temperature range of carbon and alloy steels, e.g. B. from 1370 C and above, crumbly. For this reason, an insert material must be used which has the desired high temperature strength, but which can be formed into a porous shape.
An example of such a feedstock consists of the following ingredients, particularly used in the specified parts by weight:
EMI0002.0029
Silicon dioxide powder <SEP> 40%
<tb> ethyl silicate <SEP> 3311 / o
<tb> Kaolin <SEP> 27% For use, the above ingredients are mixed with enough water to obtain the consistency required for shaping. This molding material is characterized by the fact that after mixing it has to be heated to around 1100 C before it hardens and can be manipulated.
The shape of the mold is therefore maintained during hardening in that the feedstock is enclosed in a jacket 100 (FIG. 6) which becomes a permanent part of the mold. Fig. 1-6 show that the example is presented jacket 100 has the shape of a metal cylinder open at the ends, in which the insert mate rial is poured after mixing and the molding material during its hardening and the subsequent pouring of molten metal in fully includes the input material.
So one can place an empty cylinder 100 on a suitable flat surface (not shown) and fill it with the pliable wet insert material, with a suitable cavitation material or model being provided in a corresponding arrangement in the cylinder. The filled cylinder is placed in an oven (not shown) kept at 1100.degree. The cylinder is exposed to this temperature until the molding material hardens and any cavity-forming material used has melted. In this way the shape is given a permanent shape. The jacketed mold 86 can then be clamped onto the vacuum plate 99 to receive molten metal.
Between the top of the mold 86 and the upper transverse rod 94, a mold cover plate 101 is provided, which has an opening 102 that corresponds to the pouring opening 104 (FIG. 2) of the mold through which the molten liquid to be poured from a beak pan (not shown) or the like Metal is introduced into the mold.
The cavities 98 of the mold 86 are evacuated by subjecting the mold to a vacuum applied to the platen 99 via a suitable vacuum connection 105 connected to a vacuum source (not shown). The effect of the vacuum draws air and other gases out of the cavities 98 and the molten metal that has been cast is drawn into the cavity walls.
The vacuum plate 99 is designed as a circular disk corresponding to the cylindrical shape. According to FIGS. 5 and 6, the plate 99 is provided with a wafer sheet-like surface 106 which essentially forms a pattern of interconnected circular and straight channels 108 over the entire underside of the mold. The connection between these inner channels 108 and the vacuum connection 105 is established through an opening 109 provided on the rear side of the plate.
As a result of the waffle sheet-like design, the plate is provided with feet 110 across the entire underside of the mold 86 so that the vacuum forces are evenly distributed over the underside of the mold.
To further ensure the inevitable effect of the vacuum on the mold cavities 98 and the lowest possible loss of vacuum forces due to leakage, the vacuum plate 99 is provided with an upright circular cutting edge 111 which can penetrate the relatively soft lower surface of the mold 86. The cutting edge 111 fits tightly in a corresponding groove in the plate so that the cutting edge can be replaced when it has become blunt. Air entry into the interconnected channels 108 can therefore only take place via the porous walls of the mold 86, these walls providing resistance to the passage of air.
A preferred embodiment of the invention has an arrangement of closely spaced recesses 113 which are distributed over the entire surface of the mold shell 100 essentially so that air can be drawn through them and through the porous insert material which is in the mold Casts off. With such an arrangement, the castings can be cooled more rapidly than otherwise possible, so that a fine-grained cast product is obtained which has uniform and very desirable physical properties.
The embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 corresponds to that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, except that the encased form 86a is firmly clamped to the inclined mouth 114 of a pivotable, preferably electric oven 115 which is tilted can to fill the mold with molten metal. As shown in the drawings, a frame 116 is provided as a stock for the tilting furnace 115, the ge with suitable means, including a squat motor 118 and a cradle 119, between an upright and an inclined position (in Fig. 3 Ge dashed indicated) is pivotable.
The furnace 115 is mounted in the frame 116 by means of the arms 120. The cradle 119 is pivotably connected to the furnace at a point 121 located above the axis of the support arms 120. The cradle 119 and the oven 115 are given a rotary movement by means of a pinion 122 which is driven by the reduced motor 118 and meshes with .ein rack 124 in the lower part of the cradle.
An upright frame consisting of flat bars 125 is attached to the furnace support arms 120 in such a way that it can be pivoted with them. Provisions are also made for clamping the mold 86a to the oven. For this purpose, a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder is rigidly attached to the upper frame bar 125 and extends downward from there. A piston 128 which can be moved back and forth in the cylinder carries a vacuum plate 99a at the lower end of the piston rod 129. The hydraulically or pneumatically operated piston and cylinder 128, 126 therefore move the vacuum plate 99a onto or away from the furnace mouth 114 to clamp or release the mold 86a.
The shape 86a used corresponds to that used in the device of FIGS. 1 and 2 and shown in FIGS. 5 and 6. It has a pouring opening (not shown) which rests against the furnace mouth 114. A cylindrical jacket 100a surrounds the insert material forming the mold and is preferably designed with perforations 113a in order to facilitate the cooling of the castings after the molten metal has been poured.
The ends of the mold 86a are sealed against leakage of air or molten metal. For this purpose, a seal 130 is preferably arranged between one end of the mold and the furnace mouth 114. The other end of the mold is sealed in that an upright circular cutting edge is provided on the working surface of the vacuum plate and penetrates the mold material.
To operate the device according to FIGS. 3 and 4, a metal charge to be cast is melted in the electric furnace 115. The mold 86a is clamped to the furnace mouth 114. When the metal is molten, the furnace 115 is pivoted from the upright to the inclined position by means of the reduced motor 118 and the cradle 119. Simultaneously with the flow of the melt from the furnace 115 into the mold or at any desired point in time, a vacuum can be applied to the vacuum plate 99a. By applying the vacuum, as in the first game Ausführungsbei, air and gases that are released during casting, sucked out of the mold cavity.
After the casting material has solidified, the pouring opening is closed by this material and the air sucked through the material of the porous mold serves to accelerate the cooling of the casting.
The device described above was used under actual production conditions. It has been shown that when they are used, not only a higher percentage yield is obtained, but the castings produced also really have better physical properties. It has also been found that substantially no scrap is obtained when the molds themselves are properly formed. Precision castings with extremely thin-walled parts and an accuracy of 0.13 mm were manufactured under production conditions and at production speeds.
