Method and device for operating an air curtain system The invention relates to a method and a device for operating an air curtain system of a building which has a central air conditioning system for room ventilation, which is constantly supplied with at least a portion of fresh air, while a corresponding portion of stale air from the building is discharged.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the air required for generating the air curtain is at least partially taken from at least one air-conditioned building room and allowed to flow through the exhaust opening into the air curtain zone.
The device according to the invention for carrying out the method has two conveying machines for air, one of which is arranged between the extraction line of at least one air-conditioned building room and the exhaust opening of the air curtain flow and the other is arranged after the collecting opening.
The air can be prepared as required before it enters the exhaust opening, i.e. it can be heated, cooled, humidified, dried, filtered, sterilized, perfumed or deodorized.
The effect of the air curtain is supported if a larger amount of fresh air is supplied to the building in a unit of time than air is conveyed out of it by means of the air conditioning and air curtain device, thereby creating a slight overpressure in the building.
The air required to generate the air curtain can only be partially taken from an air-conditioned building and the rest from the fresh air.
However, some of the air required to generate the air curtain can also be taken from the unused air of the air conditioning system. The air trapped behind the air curtain can at least partially be conveyed outside. It can also be wholly or partially returned to the air conditioning system. Finally, part of the captured air can also be led back to the exhaust opening and allowed to flow back into the air curtain zone.
Air curtain systems which serve the purpose of closing off rooms of different climates from one another by means of an air curtain are known. These known systems are usually designed in such a way that an air flow is conveyed in a circuit, that is, air is allowed to flow into the air curtain zone through exhaust openings, sucked in through collecting openings and again allowed to flow through the exhaust openings into the air curtain zone.
In contrast to this, the invention proposes to take air required for operating an air curtain from one or more air-conditioned rooms in buildings which are equipped with an air-conditioning system, for which the partially consumed - that is, still air-conditioned room air can preferably be used. It is possible here to form only part of the curtain flow air from used room air and the other part from fresh air, this fresh air preferably being able to be taken from the air conditioning system.
The advantage of this arrangement is that in summer, cooler air than the outside air can be blown out without additional cooling and in winter large amounts of heat can be saved. If the exhaust air has to be heated anyway, the heating output can be much smaller than with fresh air.
Such subsequent heating can take place automatically in an air heater, for example, in that a motor valve regulates the supply of the heating medium according to the outside temperature.

The advantageous combination of the operation of the air conditioning system with the operation of the air curtain comes into its own when the performance of the air curtain is improved by a slight overpressure in the building. Such an overpressure can be achieved in that more air is pumped into the building than is transported out of it by means of the air conditioning and air curtain device.
Depending on the discretion of the specialist and depending on the special requirements of a building, it may be necessary to filter the exhaust air flowing into the curtain beforehand, to temper it if necessary, to sterilize it, to rid it of unpleasant odors or with a to provide its own odor component.
In the attached schematic drawing, an embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown in principle.
1 shows the building with the central air conditioning system 2 and the air conditioning fan 3, which sucks in fresh air at 4 and, after any air conditioning, sends it into the building 1, where it enters through the ventilation openings 5 in different rooms or floors. The used conditioned air collects in the collecting pipe 6 and reaches the curtain fan 7, which allows the air to flow via the line 8 into the exhaust opening 9 of the air stream forming the air curtain 10. In this way, the air can be processed in a processing device 11. After reaching the collecting opening 12, the air of the curtain 10 is sucked in by the fan 13 and finally conveyed into the open 14, for example.
A part of fresh air can also be conveyed into the air curtain through a connecting line 15 and a valve 16 and a part of conditioned fresh air can be conveyed through the connecting line 17 with the valve 18. Furthermore, a return line 19 with a valve or a throttle screen 20 for returning part of the captured air into the curtain 10 can be provided, as well as a return line 21 provided with a valve or a throttle screen 22 for returning the captured air to the air conditioning system.
