Solche magnetische Gedächtnisse be nutzt man u. a. in Rechenmaschinen und für auto matische Kontrollen.

Bozorth, Ferromagnetism , 1951, Seite 843 usw.).

Ferromagnetic material with an almost rectangular hysteresis loop and process for its production Magnetic cores with an almost rectangular hysteresis loop are important for various applications. This type of core is used, among other things, for so-called <<magnetic memories. Such magnetic memories be used u. a. in calculating machines and for automatic controls. These cores are also used in magnetic switches.
The degree of squareness of the hysteresis loop can be expressed quantitatively in various ways. A condition for sufficient squareness is that the value of the quotient is th
EMI0001.0009
is at least 0.7 and that, in addition, the (R.) ",., value is at least 0.5. To explain the meaning of the quotient mentioned, reference is made to FIG. 1, which is a schematic representation of part of a saturation magnetization curve .
In this figure, B = denotes the remanent induction and Bd denotes the induction at which the hysteresis loop just closes. In practice, it is often not easy to measure Bd with great accuracy. However, it is easy to find an approximately correct value for Bd based on the mean value of the induction after partial magnetization or
partial demagnetization (with intermittent saturation), the two inductions being measured at the same field strength, which is selected such that the inductions differ by more than 1% "but by less than 3%
the samples measured in the making of the present invention were performed in this manner. If here from the quotient
EMI0001.0039
When talking about it, it is always assumed that measurements have been made on a ring-shaped magnetic core with a constant cross-section of the ferromagnetic material over the entire circumference of the ring and with an outer diameter of no more than 1.6 times the inner diameter.
Another measure of the squareness of the hysteresis loop of the ferromagnetic material is the so-called squareness ratio (R,) n "" X .. For the meaning of this variable, reference is made to FIG. 2, which is a schematic representation of part of a magnetization curve which is refers to a case in which the demagnetization was started before the magnetic saturation was reached. The size (R,). ", Is called
EMI0001.0051
Are defined.
The quotient
EMI0001.0052
is a function of the greatest applied field strength H ",. It follows that this quotient has a maximum value for a certain value of H" ", which usually differs little from the coercive force H. This maximum value of the quotient is indicated by the symbol ( RS) ", a, indicated.
The measurements of BW.) Required to determine (R,). ", Measurements were made when the invention came about
EMI0001.0061
also carried out on ringför shaped magnetic cores with a constant cross section of the ferromagnetic material along the entire circumference of the ring and with an outer diameter of at most 1.6 times the inner diameter.
When using ferromagnetic materials with an almost rectangular hysteresis loop, it is mostly a matter of high-frequency alternating currents and it is therefore important to avoid the occurrence of eddy currents as far as possible. When using feriomagnetic alloys, this can be done by building the magnet cores from mutually insulated, very thin layers of the ferromagnetic material. However, it is often extremely difficult, if not impossible, to make these layers sufficiently thin.
It is therefore advantageous to use oxidic ferromagnetic materials at these high frequencies, which are composed of trivalent iron oxide, Fe203, in conjunction with certain divalent oxides such as Cu0, Mg0, MnO and NiO, because these substances already have a very low electrical level Conductivity.
It has been shown that ferromagnetic materials, which consist of oxides of iron, manganese and magnesium within certain concentration ranges, have an almost rectangular hysteresis loop when processed into a ferromagnetic body and also have a very low coercive force. It is evident that a low coercive force is a favorable property for the relevant materials, since it leads to an energy saving in the practical use of the relevant magnetic cores.
In the ferromagnetic material according to the invention, the ratio of the amounts of iron, manganese and magnesium, converted to percentages by weight of the oxides Fe2O3, MgO and MnO, ranges from 50 to 70 percent by weight Fe203, up to 10 percent by weight Mg0, remainder MnO ..
In the method for producing a ferromagnetic material according to the invention, a mixture of manganese oxide, iron (111) oxide and magnesium oxide resulting in the said ratio is sintered at a temperature of 1150 to 1450.degree. Instead of the oxides, compounds of the metals in question can also be used, which can turn into oxides under the conditions prevailing during sintering, eg. B. carbonates or sulfates of the metals concerned.
EXEMPLARY EXAMPLE A mixture of Fe 2 O 3, MnCO 3 and MgO is ground for two hours with alcohol in a rotating ball mill, then dried, pre-sintered by heating to about 700 ° C. for one hour, and the pre-sintered mass is cooled and mixed with alcohol for sixteen hours ground in a vibration mill.
The powder obtained in this way is dried and sieved and, after the addition of a binder, made granular and pressed into rings at a pressure of 4 tons / cm2. This is followed by the final sintering.
For the measurements of
EMI0002.0052
and (Ra) ", .., all carried out at room temperature, the rings obtained in this way, which had an inner diameter of 3.8 mm and an outer diameter of 5.9 mm, were seen with 20 secondary turns of stranded wire and four primary turns of thin copper wire The rings were demagnetized beforehand by conducting an alternating current of steadily decreasing strength through the primary winding. The measurements were made according to the so-called ballistic method (cf. Bozorth, Ferromagnetism, 1951, page 843, etc.).

Materials that are to be regarded as manganese-magnesium ferrites with a certain excess of manganese are favorable. It could not be determined with certainty in what form this excess of manganese is present in the relevant materials. It follows from these values that the best (R,) "" ", values were obtained with an excess of manganese as in a composition corresponding to the formula (a + b) MnO # (1 -a) MgO # Fe 2 O 3, where a is between 0.5 and 1 and b = 0.25 to 0.75.
The values of (Hlyl) "laY are recorded in Tables 2 and 3. Since, as was already noted earlier, (H) .a deviates only slightly from the coercive force H, these numerical values give an impression of the size the coercive force in Oersted.
It has also been found that (R,) "", is influenced by the choice of the final sintering temperature. Table 4, which proves this, relates to samples with a composition corresponding to 7.5 percent by weight Mg0, 32.6 percent by weight Mn02 and 59.5 percent by weight Fe2O3. These samples were obtained by sintering in air at various temperatures.

<tb> 1390 <SEP> C <SEP> 0.55 <SEP> 1.2
<tb> 1400 <SEP> C <SEP> 0.54 <SEP> 1.4 It was found that sintering in a nitrogen atmosphere at a temperature of around 1300 C to achieve a high (R,) "" - Value is particularly cheap.
For example, a sample with a composition corresponding to 7.0 percent by weight of Mg0, 37.6 percent by weight of Mn02 and 55.4 percent by weight of Fe203, which was obtained by sintering in nitrogen at 1300 C, had a (Rg) maä value of 0.80 for a (H) "",., - value of 1.5, while a sample with a composition corresponding to 3.6 percent by weight of Mg0, 39.3 percent by weight of Mn02 and 57.1 percent by weight of Fe2O3, sintered under the same proportions, has a ( R,) "," had a value of 0.82 with an (H.). ", Value of 1.3.
From the above information it follows that a sintering temperature of 1250-1350 C is generally favorable; the composition naturally influences the location of the most favorable sintering temperature. Sintering in nitrogen at a temperature of around 1300 C can lead to high (R,). "Values, even 0.80 and higher, at least with a sufficient excess of manganese, which again must not be too large.
