Fig. 1 zeigt einen senkrechten Längsmittelschnitt der Mischvorrichtung.
Fig. 3 zeigt eine Draufsicht in kleinerem Massstab.
Process for the continuous production of mixtures, in particular rubber and plastic mixtures, and device for carrying out the process
The present patent relates to a process for the continuous production of mixtures, in particular rubber and plastic mixtures, on mixing and kneading screws. The patent also relates to a device for carrying out the method.
The trough mixers currently still used to produce such mixtures do not make it possible to produce the mixtures in just a single operation, because the temperature of the mixture increases to such an extent that the quality of the mixture suffers. Therefore, when a certain maximum temperature is reached, it is necessary to remove the unfinished mixture from the machine in order to cool it down. The mixing process usually has to be interrupted several times to complete the mixture.
In the production of rubber compounds, it is also not very possible to add sulfur right from the start, because vulcanization would inevitably occur during the mixing and kneading process, which would render the rubber compound unusable. One is therefore forced to incorporate the sulfur into such mixtures subsequently on mixing mills.
In addition, mixing in the known manner is very time-consuming, costly and harmful to the health of the workforce.
Proposals for the continuous production of rubber and plastic mixtures have already been made, but it has not yet been possible to achieve them consistently without problems on so-called continuous mixers. The main disadvantage is that the specifically heavier mixture constituents, such as for example rubber, are preferentially grasped by the working tools and are conveyed through the mixer rather than the specifically lighter, powdery and oily additives such as carbon black and the like. The method according to the invention aims to remedy this disadvantage.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that mixing and kneading is carried out in two successive stages, with the first stage, in which premixing takes place, non-continuous operation in order to feed the mixed material in a premixed state to the second stage, in which it is carried out continuously .
The device according to the invention for carrying out the process is characterized by a non-continuously working premixer and a continuously working continuous mixer connected to it, with a passage element being arranged between the premixer and the continuous mixer which is controlled depending on the needs of the continuous mixer for mix.
An exemplary embodiment of both the method according to the invention and the device according to the invention are described below with reference to the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a vertical longitudinal center section of the mixing device.
Fig. 2 shows a section along the line II-II in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 shows a plan view on a smaller scale.
The first stage of the mixing device, in which there is non-continuous operation and in which the mixture components are bound to one another, is a premixer with a housing 1 and the mixing elements 2 located therein, which work together in pairs. The second stage, in which work is carried out continuously, is a continuous mixer with the housing 3 and the mixing and kneading screws 4 cooperating in pairs.
A gable-shaped distributor 6 is placed in the middle of the filling funnel 5, dividing the mixed and kneaded material and diverting it into the inlet channels 7 and 8.
The space dominated by the mixing elements 2 is the premixing space. The outlet opening 10 of the premixing space can be closed by a shut-off device, for example a rotary valve 9. At the outer ends of the mixing devices 2, screw flights 11 are provided, which extend to below the inlet channels 7 and 8. The premixing space is connected to the continuous mixing space via the outlet opening 10 of the housing 1 and the inlet opening 12 of the housing 3.
The mixture components fed into the premixer through the feed hopper 5 reach the inlet channels 7 and 8 via the distributor 6, where they are captured by the screw flights 11 and fed to the mixing elements 2. The mixing elements 2 are rotating bodies with relatively low mixing and kneading ribs, through which the components of the mixture are quickly processed into a cohesive mass that is passed on to the continuous mixer after the outlet opening 10 is opened. : There the mixed material is further treated, whereupon it emerges from the opening 13 as a homogeneous finished mixture.
Timed opening and closing of the outlet opening 10 by the shut-off device, for example the rotary valve 9, controlled for example as a function of the filling level of the inlet opening 12, allows the continuous mixer to be supplied with mix so that the inflow to the mixing and kneading screws 4 is practical done continuously. The control means can be an electric eye. Such electric eyes are already used in the automatic opening and closing of hotel doors, business doors, elevator doors and the like. As long as the mix is sufficiently high at the inlet opening 12 and interrupts the beam path of the electrical eye, the rotary slide valve 9 remains closed. However, if the level of the material to be mixed falls below the beam path, that is, if the beam path is released, the rotary valve 9 is opened as a result.
Both the housing 1 of the premixer and the housing 3 of the continuous mixer can be provided with a cooling jacket in which a coolant circulates. The mixing and kneading elements of the premixer and the continuous mixer can also be provided with flat passages, preferably interspersed with transverse ribs, in which a coolant also circulates.
In this way, special rubber compounds can be produced without the risk of overheating. But even without a special cooling system, the heat given off by the mix to the metal mixing device and thus to the outside air is logically much greater than with a trough mixer. The mix passes through the mixing device in relatively small quantities and has a larger surface area that emits heat than the mix in a trough mixer, in which the surface is small in relation to the mass. Of course, if necessary, the cooling device can also be used as a heating device if a heat-carrying agent is used instead of the coolant.
Since the material emerging from the premixer already contains all the constituents mixed with one another, there is no need to fear that individual constituents will be preferentially detected by the continuous mixer.
