EMI0001.0005

Process and means for influencing plant growth, in particular for combating weeds It has surprisingly been found that triazines of the formula
EMI0001.0005
where R1 and R2 denote hydrogen or a non-aromatically bound hydrocarbon radical, optionally substituted by chlorine, for example, have a growth-inhibiting and killing effect on plants even in very low concentrations.
Compounds of the formula defined above can easily be prepared, for example, by reacting cyanuric chloride with ammonia or primary or secondary amines.
They are particularly suitable as active ingredients for weed control agents, both for the selective killing of weeds under cultivated plants and for the total killing and prevention of undesired vegetation. Among weeds are also undesirable, z. B. understood previously or nearby crops grown. The compounds defined above are also suitable as active ingredients for exercising other inhibitory influences on plant growth, in particular defoliation, acceleration of ripening through premature drying, eg. B. of potato plants, also reduction of fruit set, delay of flowering, extension of the harvest period and storage ability.
In suitable concentrations, the active ingredients which can be used according to the invention can, under certain circumstances, also be used as germination-promoting or as rooting-promoting agents. An inhibitory effect on the growth of plant parts, e.g. B. the leaves, young shoots or off runners indirectly in a qualitative or quantitative promotion of other parts, z. B. the roots or fruits, and possibly also allow a stronger fertilization.
The following, partly known and partly new triazine derivatives, for example, can be used as active ingredients:

<tb> KP <SEP> o.003 <SEP> 88-90 <B> 0 </B> The active ingredients which can be used according to the invention for influencing plant growth can be solutions, emulsions, suspensions or dusts; the forms of application depend entirely on the intended use.
All the application forms have to ensure that the active substance can be distributed fine. In particular in the total killing of vegetation, in the vorzei term drying out and defoliation, the effect can be achieved through the use of phytotoxic carriers, such as.
B. high-boiling mineral oil fractions or chlorinated hydrocarbons are strengthened; on the other hand, there is the selectivity of growth inhibition when using carriers that are indifferent to plants, e.g. B. in selective weed control, may be more evident.
For the production of directly sprayable solutions, for example, mineral oil fractions with a medium to high boiling point, such as kerosene or diesel oil, also coal tar oils and oils of vegetable or animal origin, and cyclic hydrocarbons such as tetrahydronaphthalene and alkylated naphthalenes, which can be used according to the invention Active ingredients, if necessary using suitable auxiliary solvents, such as. B. xylene are added.
Solutions in lower boiling solvents, such as alcohols in particular, z. B. ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol or methylcyclohexanol, ketones, e.g. B. acetone or cyclohexanone, hydrocarbons, e.g. B.
Benzene, toluene, xylene, and also in chlorinated hydrocarbons such as tetrachloroethane, ethylene chloride or trichlorethylene, are less suitable for direct application than for combination with suitable emulsifying agents for the production of concentrates for the preparation of aqueous emulsions.
Aqueous application forms are prepared from emulsions concentrates, pastes or wettable powders (wettable powders) by adding water. To produce emulsions, the active substances as such or dissolved in one of the abovementioned solvents, preferably by means of wetting or dispersing agents, are homogenized in water.
Examples of cation-active emulsifiers or dispersants are quaternary ammonium compounds, and anion-active emulsifiers, soap, soft soap, aliphatic long-chain sulfuric acid monoesters, aliphatic or aromatic sulfonic acids,
long-chain alkoxyacetic acids and non-ionic emulsifiers, polyethylene ethers of fatty alcohols and polyethylene oxide condensation products. But it can also consist of active ingredient, emulsifier or dispersant and possibly. Solvent-based concentrates are produced which are suitable for dilution with water.
Dusts can be produced by mixing or jointly grinding active substances with a solid carrier. The following can be considered: talc, diatomaceous earth, kaolin, bentonite, calcium carbonate, boric acid, tricalcium phosphate, but also wood flour, cork flour, coal and other materials of vegetable origin. On the other hand, the carrier substances can also be impregnated with solutions of the active substances in volatile solvents.
By adding wetting agents and protective colloids, powdered preparations and pastes can be suspended in water and made usable as sprays.
The various application forms can in the usual way by the addition of substances that improve the distribution, the adhesive strength, the rain resistance and possibly the penetration capacity, such as z. B. fatty acids, resins, wetting agents, glue, casein or alginates can be adapted to the intended use. Their biological effect can also be broadened by adding substances with bactericidal, fungicidal or properties that also influence plant growth, as well as fertilizers.
The present invention relates to a method for influencing plant growth, in particular for combating weeds, characterized by the use of compounds of the above formula. The invention also relates to a means for carrying out this method, which contains a compound of the above formula and a solid carrier.
A few examples of typical application forms are given below: <I> Example 1 </I> 10 parts of 2,4-dichloro-6-n-propylamino-s-triazine and 90 parts of talc are ground to the greatest fineness in a ball mill. The mixture obtained serves as a dusting agent. <I> Example 2 </I> 20 parts of 2,4-dichloro-6-n-butylamino-s-triazine who with 70 parts of solid inert carrier, z. B. kaolin, bentonite, chalk or kieselguhr, 7 parts of a nonionic wetting agent, e.g. B.
Sulfuric acid ester of an alkyl polyglycol ether, 3 parts of a protective colloid, e.g. B. sulphite waste liquor, finely ground in a pin mill. The powder obtained can be suspended in water and can be processed into sprays.
<I> Example 3 </I> A row (10 seeds) of wheat, mustard, alfalfa and carrots each with a seed depth of 3 cm, and a second row of the same seed types each with a seed depth of 1 cm were sown lightly in seed trays doused. The seed trays were then sprayed with 0.1 liters per square meter of 2 lo emulsions or suspensions of the compounds to be tested (depending on their physical state), corresponding to 2 g of active substance per square meter.
After 21 days the lucerne had died in the seed trays treated with 2,4-dichloro-6-ethylamino-s-triazine, but the other plants were not damaged.
<I> Example 4 </I> 0.5% emulsions of 2,4-dichloro-6-n-propyl-amino-s-triazine, 2,4-dichloro-6-n-butylamino-s-triazine, 2,4-dichloro-6-allylamino-s-triazine sprayed onto oat and mustard plants about 10 cm3 high, caused severe leaf burns. 2,4-dichloro-6-methylamino-s-triazine also caused leaf burns on mustard plants.
The active ingredients which can be used according to the invention can also be used in the form of their salts with suitable acids.
