EMI0003.0034
0,5 <SEP> Teile <SEP> Pigment
<tb> 12 <SEP> <SEP> Titandioxyd
<tb> 20 <SEP> <SEP> Dammarharz
<I>Beispiel 2</I> 95 Teile eines aus konzentrierter Schwefel säure umgefällten, chlorfreien Kupferphthalo- cyanins, 4,1.
Process for the preparation of strong, non-flocculating phthalocyanine pigments. The present patent. relates to a process for the production of strong phthalocyanine pigments which do not tend to flocculate or crystallize. It also relates to a stable pigment produced by this process and the use of the same for coloring paints and coatings.
Numerous well-known phthalocyanine pigments, because of their poor stability in paints, have not achieved the technical importance that one would expect given their other valuable properties.
This applies. especially for the copper phthalocyanine of the finely dispersed, a:
Form, which can be obtained from crude, coarsely dispersed copper phthalocyanine of the form by fine grinding in the presence of grinding substrates, as soft anhydrous organic or organic salts such as calcium chloride, potassium ferrocyanide, sodium acetate, or by Diluting the solution in concentrated sulfuric acid with water can win.
This extensive, red, blue, a-form of copper phthalocyanine has the unpleasant property of agglomerating when it comes into contact with paint solvents. H. flocculates in the form of coarsely dispersed aggregates or crystals, which results in a strong weakening of the color strength and a greener shade.
This disadvantage is particularly unpleasant when these unstable copper phthalocyanine pigments have been mixed with white pigments such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.
Several processes have already become known with the purpose of stabilizing the valuable reddish-tinged blue, finely dispersed α-copper phthalocyanine against the influence of paint solvents. One proposal concerns, for example, the addition of aluminum benzoate to a-Kupferphthaloeya.- ninpigment in the production of colored lacquers.
This method has the disadvantage that larger amounts of aluminum benzoate are necessary to stabilize the Phthaloeya.nin- pignientes, so that the color strength of the same is greatly reduced. A further proposal concerns the treatment of copper phthalo, cyanine pigments with anhydrous Ahiminiumchlorid, either in the melt or in inert, organic solvents such as polychlorobenzenes at an elevated temperature with subsequent precipitation of the pigment from concentrated sulfuric acid. This method is cumbersome and expensive.
Another proposal concerns the production of intimate mixtures, consisting of finely dispersed copper phthalocyanine of the a-form as the main component and tin phthalocyanine. If one starts out in this process from crude copper phthalocyanine in the form and mixes it with tin phthalocyanine by grinding the components, then no pigments stable in boiling kylene are obtained.
It is therefore necessary to use copper phthalocyanine precipitated from sulfuric acid in this process if one wishes to obtain pigments which are fast to xylene.
In contrast, it has now been found that valuable phthalocyanine pigments, which are stable in paint solvents, can be produced if phthalocyanines, which contain hydrogen or heavy metals of atom numbers 27-29 on the complex-forming nitrogen atoms, with such quantities of phthalocyanines of tin and phthalocyanines of Aluminum mixed so that the mixture contains at most 20% of the phthalocyanines of aluminum and tin.
Particularly valuable phthalocyanine pigments according to the invention are obtained from the copper phthalocyanine which, if appropriate, can originate from the production process of the monohalocopper phthalocyanine.
The monochloro- or mono-bromocopper phthalocyanines and the metal-free and optionally monohalogenated phthalocyanine and the halogen-free or monohalogenated cobalt and nickel phthalocyanines are also accessible to the same process.
In the preferred case of copper phthalocyanine, the particular technical advantage of the new process is that it is possible to start directly from crude, coarsely dispersed copper phthalocyanine in the I-form, as is the end product of the usual phthalocyanine synthesis.
The intimate mixing with the aluminum and tin phthalocyanines is most expediently done by grinding the pigments, the finely dispersed α-form of copper phthalocyanine also being formed in the same operation by customary methods, especially when grinding in the presence of light Removable grinding substrates, such as anhydrous organic or organic salts or their mixtures, for example in the presence of sodium sulfate, calcium chloride, potassium ferrocyanide,
Sodium acetate etc. After the grinding substrates have been dissolved with water, highly disperse α-copper phthalocyanine pigments of the desired red, tinged blue hue are obtained in one go, which thanks to a low content of intimately mixed aluminum and tin phthalocyanine have excellent stability in contact with Paint solvents even when heated.
While this procedure presents the preferred technical embodiment of the fiction, according to .Verfahren, it is of course also possible within the scope of the invention, instead of the coarsely dispersed f'-copper phthalocya.nins finely dispersed, z. B. by order to use a-Kupferphthalocy anin obtained from sulfuric acid solution.
Also, only one of the two admixtures can first be incorporated by, for example, precipitating the solution of copper phthalocyanine and aluminum phthalocyanine in concentrated sulfuric acid by diluting it with water, and only then intimately mixing it with tin phthalocyanine, for example by grinding the Mixture.
If necessary, intimate mixtures of two components can also be produced by grinding or in another way and in a special way. Mix in the third component. Mixtures consisting of the main component and one of the stabilizing additives can also be further mixed.
Joint reprecipitation of the three phthalocyanines from concentrated sulfuric acid by dilution with water also yields stabilized pigment mixtures. Under all circumstances, when working with these methods, care must be taken to ensure that the end product is as uniform as possible, evenly finely dispersed.
Regardless of the mixing method, the three phthalocyanine components are to be used in such amounts that the main component makes up at least 80 "/ a of the mixture. The additions can, for example, be 0.1 to 51 / o tin phthalocyanine and 1 to 10% aluminum phthalocyanine. carry.
0.5 to 3 / o tin phthalocyanine and 1 to 10 "/ o aluminum phthalocyanine are favorable. The total amount of stabilizing additives is advantageously within 5 to 10" / o of the mixture.
The new copper phthalocyanine pigments outperform all previously known similar pigments in terms of the red cast of the blue hue, the stability in paint solvents and paints and the transparency in nitrocellulose paints; they also show no tendency to separate when blended with customary white pigments.
What has been said for the preferred subject of the copper phthalocyanines also applies mutatis mutandis to the metal-free phthalocyanine and to the halogen-free or monohalogenated cobalt and nickel phthalocyanines.
In the following examples, parts are parts by weight, unless otherwise noted. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Weight to volume parts have the same relationship as kilograms to liters.
<I> Example 1 </I> 92 parts: chlorine-free raw copper phthalocyanine, 5 parts aluminum phthalocyanine and 3 parts tin phthalocyanine are ground with 250 parts anhydrous calcium chloride and 20 parts anhydrous sodium acetate for 100 hours with iron balls. The grinding mixture is suspended in 3000 parts of a hot, dilute hydrochloric acid solution, the pigment is filtered off, washed free of salt with water and dried.
A damar varnish of the following composition:
EMI0003.0034
0.5 <SEP> parts of <SEP> pigment
<tb> 12 <SEP> <SEP> titanium dioxide
<tb> 20 <SEP> <SEP> damar resin
If <tb> 30 <SEP> <SEP> xylene is incorporated, the pigment produced in this way shows, after 24 hours of grinding with porcelain balls, a much redder, purer and about 30 o / a stronger shade of blue than that of one under the same conditions, but without the addition of aluminum - and tin phthalocyanine salt. ground raw copper phthalocyanine.
After boiling the new pigment in xylene for two hours, it still appears amorphous under the microscope and has retained its reddish tinge, which is the case with salt-ground pigments made from raw copper, phthaloeyanine and 3 or even 6 ”/ o, tin phthalene oeyanine in the absence of aluminum, minium phthalocyanine, this is not the case. In nitro lacquers, the new pigment is characterized by excellent stability and the gloss of the full shade that can be produced with it.
Pigments with greener shades, but with the same good resistance to xylene and stability in nitrocellulose lacquers, are formed if, in this example, instead of the chlorine-free raw copper phthalocyanine, monochloro copper - phtha.locyanine, raw nickel or raw cobalt phthalocyanine with the same amounts of aluminum and Tin phthalocyanine are ground.
The copper, nickel, cobalt, aluminum and tin phthalocyanines can be prepared according to processes described in the literature.
<I> Example 2 </I> 95 parts of a chlorine-free copper phthalocyanine reprecipitated from concentrated sulfuric acid, 4.1. Parts of aluminum phthalocyanine, 0.9 parts of tin phthalocyanine are ground with 300 parts of anhydrous calcium chloride and 5 parts of glycerol monostearic acid ester during 60 hours with iron balls.
The grinding mixture is suspended in 3000 parts of a hot, dilute hydrochloric acid solution, the pigment is filtered off, washed free of salt with water and dried.
After boiling the new pigment in xylene for two hours, it still looks amorphous under the microscope and has retained its red-tinged nuance. According to X-ray examination, both the mixed pigment boiled in xylene and the uncooked mixed pigment perfectly show the structure of the a.-form, while coarse green-tinged crystals of the ss-form result from boiling the reprecipitated starting copper phthaloeyanine in xylene:
The mixed pigment produced according to this example shows very good stability and high gloss in nitrocellulose lacquers. Mixed pigments with similar stability properties, but with a greener shade, are obtained if, in this example, chlorine-free reprecipitated copper phthalocyanine is replaced by reprecipitated, metal-free, or cobalt or nickel phthalocyanine.
Example 3 50 parts of crude copper phthalocyanine are dissolved together with 3 parts of aluminum phthalocyanine and 1 part of tin phthalocyanine in 500 parts of 96% sulfuric acid at room temperature and the solution is poured into a large amount of water .
The precipitated pigment is filtered off, washed neutral with water, stirred with 1000 parts of water with the addition of 2 parts of soda and 2 parts of trietha.nolamine salt of oleic acid for 2 hours, filtered off, washed and dried.
The mixed pigment produced in this way is distinguished by better stability in nitro lacquers and better fastness to xylene compared with a uniform copper phthalocyanine reprecipitated from sulfuric acid.
<I> Example </I> A nitrotoluene lacquer is produced by dissolving 170 parts of a 360% butanol-moist collodion wool in 295 parts of butyl acetate, 105 parts of glycol monoethane and 430 parts of toluene.
To 70 parts of this solution 5 parts of Butylaceta.t, 5 parts of toluene, 6 parts of dibutyl phthalate, 0.75 parts of the pigment prepared according to Example 2 and 9 parts of titanium dioxide (anatase) are added. This lacquer is ground in a ball mill for 48 hours. The finished varnish is then poured onto aluminum foils immediately and furthermore after 20 days of storage, as well as being sprayed with a gun. The dried lacquers show no differences in shade or strength and are characterized by a high level of coverage.
