pignon satellite engre nant avec les deux éléments précités, et un support de satellite coaxial à ces deux élé ments et sur lequel est monté le pignon satel lite, l'un desdits trois éléments coaxiaux du premier train étant solidaire d'un organe d'entraînement et l'un desdits trois éléments coaxiaux du second train étant solidaire du- dit moyeu de la. roue motrice;
Pignon central libre secondaire 23: vingt-quatre dents.
Pignons satellites secondaires 25: vingt dents. Couronne secondaire 11a: soixante dents. Pignons libres secondaires 27: seize dents. Pignons satellites primaires 17: vingt dents.
Couronne primaire 9a: soixante dents.

EMI0005.0012
3-e <SEP> vitesse <SEP> 1 <SEP> à <SEP> 1,186

<tb> Ire <SEP> vitesse <SEP> 1 <SEP> à <SEP> 1,010

Gear changing device for a bicycle. The present invention relates to a positive gear change device for a bicycle, comprising at least two trains of planetary gears mounted on a common fixed axis in the hub of the driving wheel of the bicycle, these trains each comprising at least four elements, namely a central pinion, a ring gear coaxial with this pinion, at hands one:
planet gear which engages with the two aforementioned elements, and a satellite support coaxial with these two elements and on which the satellite pinion is mounted, one of said three coaxial elements of the first train being integral with a drive element and one of said three coaxial elements of the second train being integral with said hub of the. Driving wheel;
and one of said three coaxial elements of the first train being permanently coupled to one of said three coaxial elements of the second train and another of these coaxial elements of the first train being capable of being coupled at will to one of the of them remaining coaxial elements of the second train, in order to improve the drive thereof, so as to obtain a certain speed ratio between said drive member and. said hub.
According to the invention, this device is characterized in that said element of the first train capable of being coupled at will to one of said coaxial elements called second train, is the central pinion of the first train and that the second train comprises, in addition to its said central pinion, a second central pinion coaxial with it, cooperating with said planet pinion of this train and mounted so as to be able to rotate freely on said fixed axis, and that said central pinion of the first train is also capable of be coupled to this second central pinion of the second train,
so as to obtain another speed ratio between said driving member and. said hub.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, various embodiments of the device which is the subject of the invention: FIG. 1 shows a longitudinal section along the line X-0-Y of FIG. 2 of a positive device comprising free gears mounted on the same support as the main satel lite gears of the secondary train and engaging with them,
the second central pinion of this train meshing with said free pinions and remaining free to rotate on the axle (one of the positions is shown above the axle, the other below).
Fig. 2 is a cross section along the line A -A of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section called the secondary train of another embodiment, this train comprising satellite gears with two teeth meshing with the second central wheel of this train.
Fig. 3A represents a variant comprising a. second crown element generating with the same tooth of the satellite gears as the second central gable. Fig. 4 shows another variant of the secondary train making it possible to block any one of its central gears on the fixed axis, in order to obtain other speed ratios.
The device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is a gear change device with three speeds, with reversible drive (that is to say not working with freewheel) giving, in tight ratios, a reduction, -a direct drive and a multiplication. The actual hub comprises a fixed axle 1 on which is mounted a ball bearing cone 2 fixed by a lock nut 3.
Rolling on the balls 4, themselves running on the cone 2, is a drive member 5, threaded to carry a chain sprocket 6 fixed by a lock nut 7 with a thread in the opposite direction. Balls 8, running on a track formed on the drive member 5, carry a bottom 9 which is fixed at 10a in the bore of the casing 10 of the hub of the driving wheel by means of grooves and splines.
The casing of the wheel hub is provided with two flanges 10b of the tines to receive the spokes of the wheel. In the inner bore of the bottom 9 are cut teeth 9c, forming the ring gear of the primary gear train which is coaxial with a central pinion 16. In the other end of the housing 10 of the hub, a bottom 11 is screwed by suitable means such as a locking screw 12 preventing it from unscrewing.
In the internal bore of this base 11 are cut teeth 11a which form the toothed crown of the double-coupled gear train which constitutes the secondary gear train, which will be described in detail in the following paragraph. The bottom 11 rotates on balls 13 which run on a cone 14 mounted on the axis 1 and held by a lock nut 15.
The primary gear train is a single epicyclic planetary gear train; it is completed by the central pinion 16 mounted idly on the axis 1 and which carries elongated coupling claws 16a, and by the planet gears 17 mounted on journals 18 in the support of the planet wheels 19 which is coaxial with the pinion - central 16 and to the ring gear 9a of the bottom 9.
One, an extension of this satellite support 19 carries coupling claws inside it. 19a. Other coupling claws 19b of the satellite support 19 mesh with the corresponding coupling claws 5a of the drive member 5.
The double-coupled secondary gear train having 11a. as crown gear further comprises, 'to form a first epicyclic gear train, a central pin 20 fixed on the axis 1 by means of grooves and splines 20a and held by means of a washer 21 and d 'a lock nut 22, and a common satellite support 24 provided with extensions bearing inside it coupling claws 24a,
support in which are mounted the planet gears 25 meshing with the fixed central pinion 20 and with the ring gear 11a of the base 11. A second gear train is doubled. coupled with this first epicyclic planetary gear train; this second train com takes a central pinion 23 mounted idly on axis 1 and whose face is provided with coupling claws 23a, free pinions 27, mounted on journals 28, and which mesh with the planet gears 25 of the first train and with the idle central pinion 23.
This second epicyclic gear train does not have its own crown, although it would be possible to assign one to it, as shown in the variant of, fig. 3A. The central pinion 23 is prevented from sliding on the axis 1, on one side by a shoulder 1a of the axis 7, on the other by the central pinion 20.
Both of these last mentioned trains forming together the secondary gear train are doubly coupled since the support 24 of the planet gears 25 of the first train and of the free gears 27 of the second train is common to them and since their planet and free pinions 25 and 27 mesh with each other.
The primary gear train is doubly coupled with the secondary gear train as follows: Permanently, the crown 9a of the primary gear train is coupled by the housing 1.0 of the hub with the crown 11r of one of the two gear trains doubly coupled of the secondary gear train.
Optionally, the central pinion 16 of the primary gear train can be coupled either by claws 29a and 29c with the central pinion 23 of the second train of the double-coupled secondary gear, or by claws 29b and claws 24a with the common support 24 of the planet and free pinions 25 and 27, as will be explained.
A coupling piece 29 is mounted on the axis 1 so as to be able to rotate and slide freely. This part 29 carries three groups of coupling claws 29a, 29b and <B> 29e </B> (see the lower part of fig. 7. which is moved to the right with respect to the position of the upper part) .
This part 29 can be put in one of the following three positions: 1 The claws 29a are engaged with the corresponding claws 23a of the central pinion 23 (upper half of fig. 1).
2 The claws 29b are engaged with the corresponding claws 24c of the satellite support 24.
3 The claws 29c are engaged with the corresponding claws 19a of the satellite support 19 (lower part of FIG. 1).
In addition, the claws 29c are still engaged with the elongated coupling claws 16a of the primary central pinion 16, but can move axially in these elongated claws. A spring 30 disposed between the central pinion 16 and the coupling piece 29 tends to push said piece 29 towards the left of FIG. 1, so as to engage its claws 29a with the claws 23a of the central pinion 23 (upper part of FIG. 1). A key 31 passing through a slot lb of the axis 1 is engaged in a sleeve 32 housed in the bore of the part 29.
A control rod 33, passing through a longitudinal bore <B> the </B> of the axis 1, is engaged with the key 31 by another threaded rod 34 and a collar 35 screwed on the rod 33, of so that the movements of the latter are transmitted to the key 31 and from the latter by means of the sleeve 32 to the part 29, so that the latter can be put in one of the three positions described above.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, one obtains a reduction when the claws 29a are in engagement with the claws 23c, a direct drive when the claws <B> 29e </B> are in engagement with the claws 19a and a multiplication when the claws 29b are in taken with the claws 24a.
When the claws <B> 29e </B> and 19c are engaged with each other, for direct drive, the double-coupled secondary gear train spins idle with the primary gear train locked in position. itself, due to the fact that its central pinion engages with its planet carrier by means of said claws <B> 29e </B> and 19a and elongated claws 16a. When the secondary gear train is operating, the output force is shared, being transmitted, on the one hand,
by the crown 9c, due to the primary train, on the other hand, by the crown 11c of the -secondary train. The central pinion 20 is still the reaction element. When the claws 29a and 23ca are. in gear for reduction, the central pinion 16 of the primary gear must rotate at the same speed and in the same direction (opposite to that of the chain pinion 6) as the central pinion 23 of the second gear train is doubly coupled.
When the claws 29b and 24c are engaged, the central pinion 16 of the primary gear must rotate at the same speed and in the same direction (that of the chain pinion 6) as the common support 24 of the planetary and idler gears. embodiment shown, the number of teeth of the various elements of the secondary gear train is: Secondary fixed central pinion 20. twenty teeth. Secondary free central pinion 23: twenty-four teeth.
Secondary planet gears 25: twenty teeth. Secondary crown 11a: sixty teeth. Secondary free sprockets 27: sixteen teeth. The numbers of teeth quoted give the ratio of the speeds of the primary central pinion and of the hub housing, namely 0.75 to 1 for high speed, 1 to 1 for medium and 1.375 to 1 for small. In the. same example, the number of teeth of the elements of the primary gear train is: Primary central pinion 16: twenty teeth. Primary planet gears 17: twenty teeth.
Primary crown 9a: sixty teeth.
Taking into account the above ratios between the speeds of the primary central pinion and the casing, these teeth give the total gear ratio between the input element and the output element, namely: Low speed 1 to 0.916 Speed medium 1 to 1 High speed 1 to 1.0666 These ratios are closer to each other than the ratios which have hitherto been obtained with similar devices of comparable dimensions and without freewheeling, not comprising only one sliding control member, and in which the ratio of 1: 1 is between the two extreme ratios.
The aforementioned ratios are substantially the same as those which would be obtained by using the chain sprockets with a different number of teeth, as is the case for the so-called derailleur gear changes, when these pinions have ten -seven, sixteen and fifteen teeth respectively.
The numbers of teeth in each gear train could of course be chosen to give larger or smaller transmission ratios as needed. Preferably, the numbers of teeth and the couplings are such as to give a transmission ratio between the central pinion and the hub casing of between -1 and 2.5, that is to say that the central pinion primary can turn at the same speed, but in the opposite direction of the housing, or in the same direction,
but at 2.5 times its speed.
If you do not want to have a fixed-wheel drive, you can replace the chain sprocket with a ratchet freewheel gear located outside the bottom, or a freewheel, ratchet, and clip coupling. quets, can replace the claw coupling between the drive member 5 and the primary planet support 19.
Fig. 3 shows, as a variant, a double secondary gear with double neck range for changing the speed of a bicycle wheel hub comprising, instead of the axis 1, an axis 36 and a fixed central pinion 37 integrally with this axis. Next to this pinion, a second central pinion 38 is mounted so as to be able to rotate freely on the axis 36, but prevented from sliding on it by appropriate means, for example by a spring ring 39.
The central pinion 38 has, at one of its faces, claws 38a. The support for the satellites 40 is similar to the support 24 of FIGS. 1 and 2, but carries twin planet gears 41 mounted on journals 42, said gears meshing with the two central gears 37 and 38, on the one hand, with the teeth 43a of the bottom crown 43, on the other hand, corresponding to the teeth 11c of the bottom 17. of FIGS. 1 and 2.
In the bore of an extension of the support for the satellites 40 are claws 40a. The claws 38-c and 40a replace the claws 23a and 24a of the embodiment described first. In the variant of FIG. 3A, a second free annular input crown 44 is shown, this crown having teeth 44b meshing with the small folds of the twin satellite pinions 41.
In the bore of an extension of said annular ring 44 are arranged claws 44-c, intended to engage with the claws 29b of the coupling part 29. The secondary gear train shown in FIGS. 3 or 3A. can replace the secondary gear train shown in fig. 1 and 2, the claws 38c ,, 40a and 44a being aii choice engaged with the coupling part 29, as before.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 3A, the numbers of teeth of the secondary gear items shown are: Center pinion 37: sixteen teeth.
Twin planet gears 41: twenty-two and sixteen teeth.
Back crown 43: sixty teeth. Free central pinion 38: twenty-two teeth. Free crown 44 (fig. 3A): fifty-four teeth.
The numbers of teeth above give the following ratios between the speeds of the primary central gear and of the hub housing

Using the same primary gear train as before, these ratios give the following total ratio between input and output speeds:
EMI0005.0012
3-th <SEP> speed <SEP> 1 <SEP> to <SEP> 1.186
<tb> 2nd <SEP> speed <SEP> 1 <SEP> to <SEP> 1.055
<tb> Ire <SEP> speed <SEP> 1 <SEP> to <SEP> 1.010
<tb> Direct <SEP> socket <SEP> 1 <SEP> to <SEP> 1 Here also, the gear ratios are much closer to each other than the ratios obtainable with known devices with a single control member. sliding control.
If we compare these speeds with the different gears of a derailleur, we see that the third speed corresponds to a difference of three teeth, for example from nineteen to sixteen teeth, the second speed corresponds to a difference of one tooth, for example from nineteen to eighteen teeth, the first speed corresponds to a difference of less than one tooth, which cannot be easily obtained by other means.
The numbers of teeth in the different elements of the gear can be chosen to give other determined speed ratios.
In the variant according to FIG. 4, the two secondary central gears 20 and 23 of FIGS. 1 and 2 are replaced by pinions 45 and 46 both mounted so as to be able to rotate freely on the axis 1 and they are fitted, in their respective bores, with grooves and splines 45b and 46b.
The pinion 46 is provided with claws 46a which can enter into-engagement with the claws 29a. An additional slot 1d is made in axis 1 to receive additional key 47. The inner end of control rod 33 is here screwed into key 31 and an additional control rod 48 is screwed into key additional 47.
By means of the additional control rod 48, one of the central pinions 45 or 46 is made integral with the axis 1 in order to obtain gear ratios different from those already described. That is to say, by blocking on the axis 1 the central pin 46 instead of the central pinion 45 and admitting for the different elements the same numbers of teeth as in the embodiment according to the fis.
1 and 2, the central gears 45 and '46 corresponding to the gears 20 and 23 respectively, the additional speed ratios between the primary central gear 16 and the housing 10 of the hub are: 0, 1 to 1 and 1.66 to, 1 .
Using the same primary gear train as in fig. 1 and 2, the total speed ratios between input and output will be:
EMI0005.0066

<tb> Pinion <SEP> central <SEP> primary <SEP> 16 <SEP> coupled
<tb> to the <SEP> support <SEP> of the <SEP> satellites <SEP> secondary <SEP> 19 <SEP> by <SEP> the <SEP> claws <SEP> 19a <SEP>. <SEP> 1 <SEP> to <SEP> 1 Yet another variant would consist in adding to the secondary train of the variant which has just been described with reference to the fis. 1, 2 and 4, an additional free ring gear similar to that designated by 44 at the fis. 3A and capable of being coupled, by claws similar to the claws 44a thereof, to the central pinion 16 of the primary train.
Instead of meshing with the second ring gear of each of the twin pinions 41 which comprises the secondary train shown at the fis. 3A, this additional free crown will mesh with the free pinions corresponding to the pinions 27 of fig. 1 and 2.
Admitting again for the different elements the same numbers of teeth as in the. form of execution according to fis. 1 and 2, the free gears corresponding to the pins 27 (fis.
1 and 2) - having sixteen teeth, and giving fifty-two teeth to the additional free toothed crown similar to the crown 44, an additional speed ratio of 2.38 to 1 is obtained between the primary central pinion 16, when the additional free crown is coupled to it, and the casing 10 of the hub.
In addition to the ratios of 1 to 0.75, 1 to 0.858 and 1 to 1 mentioned in the previous paragraph, we will then have a total speed ratio of 1 to 0.744 between the input and the output. It will be noted that this ratio differs only slightly from the ratio of 1 to 0.75 already obtained; this duplication can be avoided by choosing different numbers of teeth, if desired.
All the described embodiments of the gear change device have the advantage of providing gear ratios that differ less from each other than those which can be obtained by means of known devices not comprising freewheel couplings arranged. inside the hub.
In addition, the various embodiments described include many parts which remain the same when switching from one embodiment to another to obtain different speed ratios, which makes it possible to do without spending too much time. charges to various customer needs.
