process for the production of an azo dye. The 4-amino-2-oxybenzene-1-carboxylic acid and its derivatives were found to have the following general formula
EMI0001.0005
where X and Y are hydrogen or any substituents, can advantageously be used as diazo components for the production of valuable azo dyes. By coupling these diazo compounds with any azo components, z.
B. salicylic acid, naphtholsulfonic acids, aminonaphtholsulfonic acids, pyrazolones, resorcinol, etc., dyes of the formula are obtained
EMI0001.0019
where X and Y have the meaning given above and R stands for the remainder of any azo component which is capable of seeing with. To combine diazo compounds to form azo dyes.
If the radical R still contains a diazotizable amino group, the monoazo dyes formed can be further diazotized and coupled again with an azo component of any kind.
Since the new dyes contain the salicylic acid group, they can be post-treated on the fiber or in bulk with metal donating compounds, in particular with chromium salts. This creates metal complex compounds which significantly improve the fastness of the underlying dyes. The orange to black colorations achieved in the aftertreatment are characterized by good general fastness.
The new dyes can also be applied directly to the fiber in the form of their chromium complex compounds using the so-called metachrome process.
The subject of the present patent is. a process for the production of an azo dye, which is characterized in that the diazonium compound from 4-amino-2-oxybenzene-1-carboxylic acid is coupled with 1-oxybenzene-2-carboxylic acid.
Example: 153 parts by weight of 4-amino-2-oxybenzene-1-carboxylic acid are dissolved in 40 parts by weight of caustic soda and 500 parts by weight of water, then 69 parts by weight of sodium nitrite are added. This solution is allowed to run on a mixture of ice and 280 parts by weight of hydrochloric acid of 24 B6.
The suspension of the diazonium compound is then added to a solution of 140 parts by weight of 1-oxybenzene-2-carboxylic acid in 40 parts by weight of caustic soda and 1000 parts by weight of water, to which 250 parts by weight of calcined soda have been added.
The dye formed after stirring for several hours is aasgesalzen with common salt, sucked off, washed with sodium chloride solution and dried.
The product obtained in this way is a brown-yellow powder that dyes wool in yellow-brown shades which, when chrome-plated toe, change into brown shades with good fastness properties.
