Typographic typesetting machine. The present invention relates to a typographic composing machine comprising a store from which the dies are intended to be delivered by means of a conveyor belt which then brings them to a corridor from which they arrive at a composter in which they are delivered. are composed online.
This machine is characterized by an oscillating lever provided, at one of its ends, with a push element located at the bottom of said passage, at the front of the composter, this oscillating lever being intended to drive said push element for bring the dies one after the other to the composter, this pushing element having the shape of a nose which is.
articulated by an oscillating lever and which is intended to be lowered by the dies which are caused to fall when the oscillating arm comes to occupy its front position, said nose returning to its rest position to bring the matrix to the composter when the oscillating lever is moved to its rear position.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine which is the subject of the invention. .
Fig. 1 is a front view showing in particular an oscillating thrust device. in its withdrawn position.
The fàg. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1, i but on a larger scale, showing the oscillating pushing device in its working position. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing a detail of the pushing device and of an arm which supports it and indicating by broken lines a support forming a casing of the spring actuating the arm.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 2.
In the embodiment of the machine according to FIGS. 1 to 5, dies a. ', Once released from their magazine (not shown), descend along a guide channel plate d onto an inclined conveyor belt B which is constantly actuated and unloads them. one after another, in the order in which they were released, inside a corridor C leading to a composter elevator D.
It is in this elevator that the dies are assembled in line with Y space bands, the line then being transferred to the platemaking mechanism, all as is well known to those skilled in the art.
The g dies are set with upper and lower protruding ears x q111, in general, are placed on one of the faces of the individual dies, namely the rear or driven face.
Consequently, when the dies are transferred to the com post elevator D, they rest on it with their rear face facing downwards, and their protruding edges (the thickness of which varies only slightly) following substantially the same path as the elevator of the composter, regardless of the thickness of the body of the dies.
As shown in particular clearly in FIGS. 1 and 3, the upper side of the composter corridor C comprises two curved guide rails C1, and the lower side of said corridor comprises two curved guide rails C2, the rails C1 being fixed by locking screws c on the rear wall of the channel plate A, and the rails C2 being also fixed to this wall by screws cl.
The upper guide rails C1 (fig. 2) are held at a certain distance from each other by - spacer sleeves c2, mounted on the rods of the screws c, while the lower guide rails C2 are fixed in the known manner on the front and rear faces of a spacer block c3.
.If one wished to work with sets of dies in which some of the dies with the thick folds are provided with protruding ears which are offset from their back face, one could, by removing the screws c,
replace the upper guide rails C1. of the corridor with a different pair of rails of different curvature and located at a slightly greater distance from the lower rails C2, or, instead of completely removing the upper guide rails 01,
these rails could be established so -to be able to adjust their position in a direction which brings them closer to or away from the lower rails C2 by providing them with short slots instead of threaded holes to receive the screws c.
As in all commercial machines, the composer's corridor C and certain rooms adjacent to this corridor are normally concealed by a cover plate C3 which mainly constitutes the front side wall of the corridor and which is hinged by its lower left corner, so as to be able to pivot downwards to gain access to the corridor and to the receiving end of the composter D, when this is desirable.
An oscillating device is intended to push the dies, one after the other, as they leave the lane C, to introduce them directly into the composter elevator D and, at the same time, to stack them in line against a vertical protruding finger E1 of the well-known composter cart E. Such a device, shown clearly in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, com takes an angled lever F, arranged vertically, mounted on a pivot screw f and actuated by a compression spring FI under the control of a cam G acting by its profile turn.
This cam G is constantly rotated by means of the chain transmission J, with a ratio 1 to 1, from the shaft B1 of the belt drive pulley B2, and said cam is intended to cooperate with a roller. antifriction f 1 fixed to one of the arms F2 of the elbow lever.
Another arm F3 of this lever (fig. 2) rises vertically from the pivot screw f along the entrance to the composter elevator D, and the spring F1 serving to actuate said angled lever is made direct pressure on the arm F3. As can be seen from FIGS. 1 and 2, the spring F1 is mounted in a horizontal support forming a housing H located immediately below the spacer block c3 of the lower guide rails C2 and.
fixed on the rear side face of the guide channel plate A. At one of its ends, the box H (fig. 2 and 5) is forked to receive the adjacent edge of the vertical arm F3 of the lever F and the opposite end of said support is provided with a screw H1 of the tines to receive and support the compression spring F1, this screw being adjustable in position, when desired,
in order to make it possible to modify the potential energy of said spring and, in all cases, to like this res out sufficiently poLU to overcome the resistance offered by the carriage of .composter E via its vertical finger El. A nut lock 1a (fig. 4), mounted on screw H1 and resting on support H, hand holds screw without its adjusted position.
The vertical arm F3 of the lever F (fig. 2, 4, 5). carries a thrust element F4, which is pivotally connected to said arm by a pivot screw f 2 and is provided with a weak tension spring F5 serving to hold it elastically in its working position (fig. 1 and '_') against ime stop pin f 3 which projects forward on the front face of said arm.
The thrust element F4 is provided with a rounded nose f4 intended to come into contact with the rear faces of the dies as they leave the corridor C on their way to the composter D, and the cam G is provided with portions respectively high g1 and low (g2. Consequently, each time that, during its downward movement, a die strikes the nose f 4 of the pushing element, the latter bends momentarily (see the dotted line of fig. 2)
to allow the passage of the die and is then able to return elastically to its normal or working position, when the vertical arm F3 of the bent lever F receives a dextrorsiun pivoting movement of the cam G, in antagonism to the action of the compression spring F1, to its inactivity position shown in FIG. 1.
So that the thrust element I'4 cannot easily be moved or oscillate away from its normal position due to the action of the ash dies, regardless of the thickness (said dies, the spring F5 is placed immediately below and just away from the dead center of the pivot axis of said element,
when the latter occupies its normal position in contact with the stop pin f3 (fig. 2). In other words, the arrangement is such that the nose f4 of the bud element does not hamper or delay to an appreciable degree the descent of the thinnest and lightest dies during their assembly in line.
It is now clear that the X dies which pass inside the corridor C and which enter the composter elevator D will be stacked one after the other, in line, against the vertical protruding finger E1 of the trolley of composter E during the oscillations of the push element 1714 under the action of the bent handle F.
