Cadenas.
Padlock. The present invention relates to a padlock of the type comprising an M-shaped buckle subjected to the action of a spring to keep it in the open position, a cylinder device controlled by a key making it possible to lock said buckle in position. closing by means of a locking member, the body in which the cylinder is capable of rotating being of elongated shape and having at one of its ends a bearing in which is capable of rotating and sliding axially, per pendicular to the axis of the cylinder, one of the ends of the loop,
a housing being provided at the other end of said body to allow engagement of the other end of the buckle in said body in the locking position of the padlock.
The padlock according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the part of the loop housed in the bearing has a recess in which part of the locking member is permanently engaged, so that the latter ensures no only the locking of the buckle in the closed position, but also constitutes a stopper imitating the displacement of the buckle with respect to: the body of the padlock when the latter is opened.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1. is an axial sectional view of this padlock. Fig. 2 is a cross section of said padlock taken according to II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is an end view of its locking member and of the cylinder.
This padlock comprises a U-shaped buckle 1 held in the closed position by a cylinder device 2 controlled by a key 3. The cylinder device com takes an elongated body 4 in which the cylinder is capable of rotating. 5. The body 4 is therefore tubular in shape. A bearing - 6 is provided at one of its ends to receive one of the ends 7 of the loop 1.
This bearing 6 is formed in a part 8 clamped in the tubular body 4.
A spring 9 is disposed at the bottom of the bore constituting the bearing and the end 7 tends to be pushed axially out of the bearing 6 by the spring 9.
A housing 10 is provided at the other end of the body 4 to receive the second end of the loop 1.
In the vicinity of the end 7, the bent rod constituting the buckle 1 has a groove 11. The padlock is locked by means of a blocking member 12 solid in rotation with the cylinder 5. The end of the padlock the member 12 opposite the cylinder is cylindrical in shape and is guided in a bore 13 made in the part 8. Thus, the end of the member 12 is permanently engaged in the groove 11. It should be noted that the diameter of the cylindrical part of the member 12 is substantially equal to the width of the groove 11.
Thus, in the position shown in FIG. 1, the member 12 prevents any axial displacement of the end 7 in the bearing 6, any rotational movement of this end 7 being prevented by the engagement of the other end of the loop 1 in the housing. 10.
A lateral recess 14 is provided in the cylindrical end of the member 12 to allow unlocking of the padlock.
Indeed, as it is visible on the sin, it suffices to turn with the aid of the key the cylinder 5 and, therefore, the member 12 of a quarter turn in the direction of the needles of a watch so that the recess 14 comes opposite the shoulder 15 and thus allows the end 7 to slide in the bearing 6 under the action of the spring 9, by a distance equal to the depth of the recess 14.
This movement is provided sufficient so that the second end of the loop 1 comes out of the housing 10 and that it is then possible to rotate the loop 1 relative to the body 4.
It should be noted that the bottom of the recess 14 of the member 12 itself constitutes the stop limiting the movement of the loop 1 with respect to the body of the padlock, when the latter is opened.
To close the padlock, it suffices to bring the second end of the loop 1 opposite the housing 10, to press the loop 1 against the body 4, against the action of the spring 9 and to rotate the locking member 12 a quarter turn using the key.
The cylinder with which this padlock is fitted is of the type carrying locking plates 16 capable of sliding transversely in cylinder 5 against the action of springs 17. This cylinder 5 has an axial void 18 of substantially rectangular section and its wall: outer has as many grooves 19 as the cylinder carries plates. The bottom of each groove 19 has two opposite openings 20 through which the corresponding plate 16 passes. Two annular shoulders 21 are provided vis-à-vis one another on the opposite faces of each groove 1.9: The springs 17 which are annular in shape are housed in each groove 19.
Each spring 17 is guided in a groove 22 presented by one of the shoulders 21.
The ends 23 of each spring 17 are bent and hooked on the same side of each plate in a notch 24 thereof (see FIG. 2).
Each plate 16 has a shoulder 25 constituting the stop determining the position of each plate transversely in the cylinder 5. In addition, these plates 16 have a central opening 26 in which protrudes a lug 27.
The opening 26 has a shape corresponding to that of the section of the key and the lug 27 is intended to cause, by cooperating with one of the ramps 28 provided on the lateral faces of the key, the withdrawal of the corresponding plate in cylinder 5 when the key is engaged therein.
It should be noted, on the other hand, that for guiding the key in the cylinder 5, the axial void thereof has on its two opposite sides of smaller width a groove 29 in which the key slides.
When the key is withdrawn from the cylinder 5, the plates 16, under the action of the springs 17, move transversely in the cylinder dre 5 and their side opposite to that in which the notch 24 is formed protrudes either in a groove 30a , or in a groove 30h formed in the body 4. In this position, the plates 16 therefore lock the cylinder 5 with respect to the body 4.
On the other hand, when the key is engaged in cylinder 5; the ramps 28 by coming into contact with the lug 27 of each of the plates 16 cause the latter to be withdrawn inside the cylinder 5. The latter is therefore released and can be driven in rotation.
The end of the cylinder 5 opposite the key has a transverse groove 31.
The part of the blocking member 12 engaged in the cylinder 5 has a shape corresponding substantially to the section of the axial void 18. Two opposite parts 32 of this member 1 \ L engage in the groove 31 to determine. maximum depression of member 12 in cylinder 5, while ensuring perfect angular fixing of member 12 with respect to cylinder 5.
In addition, the cylinder 5 is itself hand held in the body 4 by a washer 33 attached to the end of the body 4.
A second washer 34 integral in rotation with the cylinder 5 is interposed between the latter and the washer 33. This washer 34 which is made of hardened steel constitutes, on the one hand, a shielding plate for the cylinder and, on the other hand apart, a guide element during the introduction of the key.
It should be noted, moreover, that the recess 14 of the locking member 12 has a shape such (see FIG. 3) that in the open position of the padlock, when the shoulder 1.5 is engaged in said recess. , the cylinder 5 is blocked relative to the body of the padlock by the edges of the recess 14 which abut against the cylindrical surface of the end 7 of the loop.
In the open position, the cylinder is therefore locked in a position for which the key cannot be removed from the padlock. In fact, the key has a lug 35 which, by abutting against the washer 33, prevents the key from coming out. A notch 36 is provided in said washer 33 to allow the step of the lug 35 only in the closed position of the padlock.
Numerous construction modifications could be made to the described padlock.
Indeed, the cylinder device has to be of the type with sliding plates could be replaced by a cylinder device of another known type, for example with locking pins. However, it should be noted that it is precisely the device with plates described above which makes it possible to obtain a padlock of small size, while being of remarkable operating safety and solidity.
